Here is the link to the modded map, thanks to feinne.

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
I'm still trying to find out a decent pretender/design/strategy. I'm tempted to go with Pangaea.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
I think I've got a pretender design done.
Question about victory conditions: What do we pick? The default ones tend to degenerate in never-ending end-games, particularly with water nations available (though less so with CBM). Would controlling more than half the capitals be fine? |
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
Well, either that or concessions. I think most people can tell when a player has won. And if a majority agree then we end the game.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
There's plenty of ways we could roleplay the pretenders dividing up creation two- or three ways between them and forming a pantheon of sorts.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
I've PMed Greyjoy and asked around and no answer. Should we replace him?

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
If we cant reach him then sure. We do need dedicated players for this and its better get another guy if he is unsure of weather he wants to play or not.

I can't quite get my SP play-testing with sauromatia where i want it to be so i think i'm going to try acrosephalae instead.

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
Okays, I've been successfully bribed to fill out the final slot here (nation tbd).
The one thing I'll ask for is a sample AAR that can be used as a style guide for our AARs so that we are consistent in what we're documenting and how we write our AARs. |
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
Hmmm, I was going to employ a idiosyncratic style -- not only using hoary and ancient words and phrases reminiscent of certain unspeakable works, but even echoing the very structure and literary techniques used in those damnable stories. Yet only instead of a wholesome letter or the mumblings of a wizened mariner it shall be the very format of the AAR that becomes the vehicle of horror, mockingly chronicling my descent into madness. I fear I have no other choice than to continue on this path. My one remaining hope is that it is yet time for others to seek refuge in whatever different formats they prefer; alas it is a fleeting hope, for in the end THE STARS SHALL ALIGN!

Yeah- i'll post an update zero article soon after we start, if you want an example. You are free to do whatever you want though. |

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (finalizing the planning stages, join if you w
It was in one of the most open and least frequented parts of the encircling ocean that miles beneath the wind-whipped waves a fateful change took place. Mermen and atlanteans shunned the region, fearful of what lurked in the lightless depths. For in the ancient aboleth city of R'lyeh vast and ageless fish-creatures move sluggishly on the shores of the benthic brine-lakes, served by slaves that their loathsome and mercyless minds have bound in unbreakable fetters. Beneath the dark and cyclopean towers monstrous polypal growths squat, spewing forth a disgusting stream of writhing, tentacled spawn, eel-like scaled things that burrow into the rotting flesh and decaying bones of whales that the detestable aboleths lured into the abyss, singing mindless ditties alone in the cold and crushing deep. Since long before man has stared in slack-jawed wonder at his first flaming torch or raised his dull gaze to the uncaring stars, the aboleths have lived in their unbreathing city, disdaining the lesser godlings of the sea and land and even the Pantokrator Himself. Yet now a terrible emptyness yawns in the heavens, and even as the aurora proclaims the Pantokrators disappearance in sickly colours, a chill wind blows from the gaps between the constellations. And in the deepest recesses of the hadopelagic zone, something vast and monstrous stirs.
The reign of the aboleths is at an end, yet perhaps their time has just begun. |

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
It was more of a roleplayed announcement that my pretender was uploaded, so I'll go over it after it had a chance to settle again before posting in the AAR thread, I think.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
Putting the finishing touches on my pretender, should have it in tonight or tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
sounds good and don't worry too much about it.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
Okay, just to be sure, Excist is playing Abysia and submitted his pretender, right? Game seems to have started but I don't see a post here from him, nor one in the game thread announcing the game starting, and the first post hasn't been edited either. Wondering if he submitted his god or some random person submitted a god and that started the game automatically or something.
Edit: Also, is there an IRC network or something for diplomacy here? The in-game message system is just so bad, and it'd be convenient to talk to you guys another way. |
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
i use the goons one and there is a chat function for this board but usually only BBZ is on there (link in the top menu- far left)
Also- i got this message from Excist: Quote:

Where I can get one of those nifty national banners?
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
I don't know where to get a caelum one from. I stole mine from the "Let's Play" image host (its actually Lilli's upload). If i were you i would check out old something awful AARs.
EDIT: maybe use this: http://www.dailymotion.com/thumbnail...intro_creation |

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
Ok.
I took a look at the AAR thread and I see this is quickly going to become a useless mess of unorganized AAR snippets that will make it impossible to A) follow a race that you're planning on playing in your next game and B) cross reference a turn from 2 or more viewpoints. Does anybody have the ability to customize a blog website or something so that we can have a blog thread for each nation and label each blog post by the corresponding turn number? Ie Abysia - National troops and Pretender Design Abysia -Turn 1 Abysia -Turn 2 That way people can see the flow of the game from a nations viewpoint and then cross reference the applicable viewpoints from the nations that they are at war with during the turns they're at war without having to sort through hundreds of forum posts in a single thread. The current format will quickly become useless to future generations of Dominions fans that are yet to be born and for whom I suppose this is being done for. |
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
What if i just put a table of contents with links in it in the first post?
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
That would probably be best.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
That would make it functional, but it would also be a lot of manual labor.
If nobody is eliminated in the first 3 game years that's over 400 links to catalog. You may run into the upper limit on characters/post with all those links and descriptions of what they're linking to. I think a blog website would be much easier with 1 link in the AAR thread to each nation. |
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
What about an indexing thread? You could have one post for every nation with posts listed in order, and maybe one post for every turn (since they'd be grouped together in the real thread that's less valuable). I think such posts would come in under the size limit, and it would even let you partition the work. We could sub-partition if even that is too big. I'd be willing to assist.

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
This forum doesn't allow edits of anything other than the first post in a thread after about 20 minutes or something like that.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
Oh, question. Are we posting our first turns on turn twenty, or twenty-one? The latter puts it at exactly twenty turns for a buffer, which seems good to me since it's pretty easy to remember. Also I like round numbers.
Unrelated, some of you should get on the SA IRC Dom3 channel; I can only talk to Bluemage and occasionally Immac at the moment, at least without PMs or the in-game messaging, and it isn't convenient. |
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
turn 21
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
OK, I am a complete IRC noob. What do I need to do to get started? I don't want to be left in the cold with diplomacy.

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
yea, I never understood why Dom3 isn't on xfire or any of the real online gaming chat systems

Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
i had to postpone hosting 12h. sorry.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
Hm, for the little nation banners things to put at the top of our posts, is there going to be a standardized size or design for them, like whether or not we use their flag and such? I was going to start making mine but if there are any standards I should keep too I'd like to know.
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
Use whatever you like. I'm not too worried about standardizing things... Make it fun for yourself. :P
|
Re: Shared AAR Experience (pre-thread) (game initiated- see game thread)
All right, I'll be on dom3goons then when I'm online, but I won't be following the main chat. /msg me to get my attention.
