Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

Serbal went AI after turn 12. I didn't know this beforehand, I just save all my turns.
Are there any rules regarding attacking a nation that went ai?

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

Yes. Find a sub.

Lunaje October 9th, 2012 03:17 PM

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

It's already AI, a sub won't do. Rules? I don't know., but overall it's an annoying situation, since it's easy territory wins (and a capital, big prize) for neighboring nations.
Ok, I sent the same file. Hope everything goes ok.

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

Just take his territories. Can't do much about it.

Sorry, I kinda forgot about this game for a few days. Thus my last turn was a stale. I'll try not to let it happen again.

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

What's this about C'tis ? Someone elaborate ?

edit: also a commander (that I just now build a ****load of items for that are collecting rust/dust now).....disappeared.....one turn he's standing in a fort, the next he's gone, no message no nothing. Can anyone explain/guess what this is about ? Because it kinda sucks lol.

Tiavals October 13th, 2012 02:13 PM

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

I'm guessing the disappearance of your commander and the message about C'tis are some bugs that are connected somehow. I really have no idea about them.

I doubt redoing the turn will help, so I think we should go on and play and hope nothing else happens.

Unless someone happens to know what this is about?

Lunaje October 13th, 2012 03:20 PM

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

I got the message that I'm supposed to be cheating, but don't what it means. It has to do something with the rollback, maybe? But I'm just guessing.

Seems quite possible. Well know for sure if you win the game. ;)

What a mess........I gotta say if this is standard PBEM stuff.....:[

For reference this is my first PBEM game and so far one turn completely bugged out and now a commander disappears without leaving a trace. Not a good look so far lol. Unless I'm doing something wrong :p.
It's as simple as dl turn > put in folder > open/select game > play/end turn > send .2h right ? Just to be sure :p

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

I was about to link that post. Seems we've run into some trouble, and need to do the proper rollback. But I must say, this will totally screw up my war effort.

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

I see, that certainly was an informative post. So Calahan, if you're reading this, thank you.

I guess we'll have to do what he suggests. I'll see about it later today.

Sorry for all the trouble, folks.

They say that sometimes, late at night, you can see Calahan's shrapnel account roam around the shrapnel forums, looking for noobs to trash and newbs to enlighten.

My advice, don't log-on past eight and leave all the lights in the room on.

Edit: I should probably also apologize for this mess, after reading Cal's post I'm guessing "rollback or AI" isn't the best attitude...I didn't realize that me getting un-****ed would in turn actually **** the whole game....lesson learned and sorry...:[

Read Calahan´s thread meanwhile. Means we have to contact the guy who runs the server to get that sorted out.

I suggest to restart the game.

Well then, guess we'll make a vote:

Who are in favor of starting the game completely from the beginning(means you can change your nation and so on), and who wants to continue the game as is, after trying that stuff out mentioned in the other thread.

Anaconda October 14th, 2012 02:34 PM

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

I sustain from voting; I can live and play with either decision.

chelubey October 14th, 2012 02:51 PM

Re: WallWorld - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

1. I don't think there is a sense to seek guilty ones here. It seems we've got mostly uniform group of newbie MP players here and most were simply unaware that rollback can cause anything like that. These rollback things don't look from outside like something very disastrous may hiding behind, so reaction of those who was involved in this issue was adequate.

Yes, of course, with a posteriori knowledge it would be better to consult someone experienced one about rollbacks.
But if there are no indications that some problem may arise in some point, it is not that good to run for veteran's assistance every time.
So lets not blame anyone, people acted adequately to situation within the knowledge available to them.

Rather I would thank Calahan for his reaction, attitude and thorough detailed hints about it.
Not only he leaded us from swamp where we appeared (that is provided means to resolve particular case), but such an explicit analysis becomes a node where people will be able to point out when in some other game rollback will be considered.

2. We have not one problem with current game, but two problems.
Unfortunate rollback is main one, but we also have a player going AI almost from the very beginning. Not something to contribute to game's quality.

3. I would vote for the first choice ("starting the game completely from the beginning(means you can change your nation and so on)").

Well, it seems the majority has decided on restart.

Same settings, except for CBM 1.94
Also, game name is WallWorld2, so you have to send your pretenders there.

Choose your nations and send your pretenders. I'll be playing Shinuyama.

Oh, and in case it wasn't obvious, those who chose their nation for the first iteration of the game, have them claimed by default, so no one else can take your nation unless you choose something else yourself.

I tested it, and I was indeed running CBM 1.94 as we were supposed to. The fact that some might have been running 1.92 or 1.93 might have contributed to the strange things taking place.

Re: WallWorld2 - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

There is one more issue with restart.

This map has 132 land provinces and 39 sea provinces. It means 7 land nations and 2 water nations (for instance) are going to have about 20 potential provinces per player to expand.

With Serbal's dissapearance and silent going to AI we have these 9 players.

But at the moment I have a single sea nation, so I'll have some advantage over others. It is not that underwater nations tend to win MP games (and I don't think I'll do well anyway due to lack of experience with underwater ones), but still start will be unfair this way.

Maybe one of us would like to try Oceania or Atlantis to make things more even?

P.S. For more precise count it worths to take into account that 7 sea provinces are lakes far within land. As far as I remember they are not connected to ocean (no access to game to check it at the moment).

So more correct values will be 139 (132+7) vs 32 (39-7). This way two underwater nations are in somewhat worse situation than land ones, but single underwater nation still have advantages (1.5 times more provinces to expand on initial stage).

I'm not sure whether it is something significant to care about and whether warning about this issue (what will affect others decisions) + some presumed relative weakness of underwater nations in long run are enough to compensate. My duty is to point out on this issue, and I'm completely fine either if I'll be alone or with some water neighbour.

Re: WallWorld2 - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

Our admin raised a question on game-defining issue more than a week ago:
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showp...8&postcount=71

Then he asked confirmation in http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showp...1&postcount=94

Since the very beginning there were zero replies from dark7element and serbal.
Stattis voted for restart.

Concerning serbal: he dropped nation to AI without even notifying someone. His last forum login was "Last Activity: 09-15-12 03:41 PM". Looks like a sample of very inappropriate player behaviour degrading game quality in a whole.

But what about others?
How many ACTIVE players remain in game now?
How many open nation-slots do we have (if any) requiring recruitment?
How can Tiavals (or anybody else) conclude it if some players in team remain silent?

(I don't assert there are those who ignored these questions since I don't have full info - maybe they contacted via another means. But I assume that "?" signs at nation selection which remain for a few players in header message and lack of answers on forum are correlated.)

Ladies and gentlemen - we are struggled on almost a week around very basic and simple question - if things will go in such a non-disciplined way, this game will unlikely bring much good.
I understand if someone can't find the time to make his/her turn in late game for several days, but just a simple decision and a very few words on forum are needed here.

Lunaje October 19th, 2012 11:20 AM

Re: WallWorld2 - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

I'm with Chelubey here, the game needs a little push to start again. I don't think Serbal is going back, he disappeared without a word. Also, if we have slots still open, reserving a spot for a water nation seems necessary to me. 32 provinces is a lot for just one nation with no immediate competition. I would play Atlantis, but really want to play C'tis and don't have the time to test them properly these days.

dark7element October 19th, 2012 06:33 PM

Re: WallWorld2 - 10/10 - Newbie-Intermediate

Sorry I haven't been responding to the game lately. I've been busy, both with RL stuff and with the other games I've been playing. The good news is that I'm about to die in "Primordial Cake" and "Tower of Elephant" is in the final stretch, so I should be able to be more active.

I will create a pretender and submit sometime tonight.

I still want to play Agartha.
