Every time I see Angelfire hosting SEIV shipset, my mind wanders back to old Atrocities website and what had happened after... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif ...

Dogscoff, the Race Pic looks beautiful! Thank you thank you thank you thank you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I'll try to clean up the set as soon as possible. I've been practicing with Moray and 3ds Max to find a substitute for DoGa (like everyone else is!).

I'm also switching over to Spaceports and dumping Anglefire, and will have a new layout for the site (maybe new name too).

More as it develops (faster than a turtle, hopefully).

Download the Nu'Wam Shipset Here.

Well, as the Sea Captain from the Simpsons would say, "Tharrrr she blows!"

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

I've uploaded the ZIP to Shrapnel until I can redo the website.

All the ships & bases have been detailed more to give them more life. Hopefully i've worked out all the artistic bugs, but the odds are against me, so please point out any problems you might encounter.

Once again a big big big big big thanks to Dogscoff for providing the Race pictures. You can all now rest easy knowing how Mr. T would look like if he were white and lived in the 25th century http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

I'll post a JPG or two (shortly) of how the ships look now so everyone can have an idea of what they're downloading.

PS, when bumping, please don't wear steel toed boots. My rump is sore enough from my computer chair http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Those pics are fantastic. I think it's such a shame images like that have to be scaled down to 128x128 for the game.

Not quite sure how the alternative would work, but a shame anyway.

Hey gang!

Here's a preview (Light Cruiser Class) of the Set i'm working on now:

http://www3.sympatico.ca/sergemorris...htCruiser1.jpg

We don't see too many ships with "animal prints" like the Narn had on Babylon 5, so that's why i've got the green tiger print going. Other than that, what's not to love about a ship with big green engines and lots of guns?

Re: Katchoo\'s Shipset Thread (aka the ungodly slow DoGa guy).

Yeah, that set has "propulsion experts" written all over it.

Has anyone ever written an AI for a set that takes advanced propulsion and then immediately maxes out research on engines? That would be quite a cool AI, and pretty dangerous too.

Re: Katchoo\'s Shipset Thread (aka the ungodly slow DoGa guy).

Hey gang!

I've got a project for everyone. I need some images for the Troop Pictures http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif What i'm looking for is either all drawings or all pictures/models of various aliens and monsters. Here are the details:

SMALL TROOP: thin humanoid alien. I don't want the typical grey alien everyone knows. Rather I want something that looks like a thin, undernourished alien. If you've ever read the Fantastic Four comic book you may have seen the Subterranean (yellow skinned) slaves of the Mole Man. That's what i'm shooting for.

MEDIUM TROOP: large bipedal monster. Something around the size of the Incredible Hulk would do. Heck, I might even use the Hulk if I can find 2 other images (small/large troop) that match in some shape or another.

LARGE TROOP: humongo monster. Think godzilla. These Troops do nothing but eat school buses, climb up buildings, and shake an angry fist/tentacle at menacing airplanes.

Dogscoff, I still want you to do these Troop Pics for me, but this way I can get the set out and you can do the pics at your leisure, and then I can add them in as part of an updated pack for Shipset later on.

Everything is done for this set, so once I plop these Troop images in i'll release the set.

In between looking for pictures, i've been designing Neo-Standard models for the Psycho Trappers! So far i've got the Scout, Corvette, DestroyerHeavy, CruiserHeavy, DreadnoughtHeavy, and the BaseshipHeavy done. I'm gonna hold off on posting these on the Preview page until I get them all done. Then again i'm known for sudden decision reversals... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

I'm also tightening the textures for all the existing ships. The hull textures were all the same density before, regardless of ship size. I'm increasing the density now to match each jump in ship size. They look prettier now.

UPDATE: Added Baseship images to the Preview Page.

So if you folks could point me towards any pictures you may know of or find on the net, post them here. Otherwise I may have to go with Plan B: using Muppets.

Ok Katchoo. I'm hoping to blitz my current graphical obligations this weekend, so you might get a picture or three then=-)

I was reading your descriptions down there, and it seems you missed out the neo-standard troop sizes. They give you a bit more range, and allow you go from single humanoid to giant sea-monster a little more smoothly

For example, would you want the infantry to be a single flying slaver in search of a host (ie the race pic)?

I was thinking more along the lines of the inantry pic being the "thin humanoid alien" you described (I was thinking an armed human, but a "grey" would also work) with a zombie-like expression and a slaver perched very visibly on top of the head.

For small troop you could use a Hulkish creature, since most shipsets equate small troop with a light tank or one-man mecha. Big, ugly, surly-looking and relying more on natural weaponry than technological ones.

For medium troop you'd have a larger creature. Maybe some sort of rhinocerous-size/ shape with some armour and weapons mounted on its back. At this scale, the slaver would probably be only just visible on top of the host, but by now the player would get the idea and assume it was there.

Large troop could be some kind of T-rex beastie. Big teeth etc, maybe a few armaments and/or cybernetics.

That leaves huge troop for your giant monster. Which sounds to me like an excuse to spend all night watching my entire rubber-Godzilla flick collection back to back. (I'd still like to know why Rodan sounds like a jet engine when he flies)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Initially the Neo-Standard images were going to come out in a 2nd/expanded Version of PT Shipset, but the N-S images are comming out better (and faster) than I thought, so they'll definetly be ready in time to be released with the standard pics.

It's amazing what you can get done when you don't have writers/creators block http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">This works! The only alteration would be to have the Trapper itself flying just above the slave, instead of sitting on him. One Trapper can control multiple slaves, so a slightly higher vantage point gives the trapper a better view of his "herd".

The alien can be grey if you've got something in mind. I just don't want the typical big-eyed grey alien every associates with Roswell. These Slaves are cannon fodder and don't get treated well. At least not as well as the more impressive slaves (bigger Troops).

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Cool. Maybe have one of the aliens from the Infantry Troops riding it? The Trapper shouldn't be very visible in comparison with this beast, considering the Trappers are much larger than your average bat.

Whatever you can come up with would be marvellous, Dogscoff! Go hog wild with your imagination (as you always do) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

BUMP!

*cough*cough*cough*

Ugh, this thread hasn't been updated in so long that the dust is evolving into a sentient life form bent on the destruction of man through the use of Pizza Traps. Wait a sec- http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Anyhoo, bumping this thread for Cirvol, who inquired about the set and my modeling tools.

Everything for the Psycho Trappers is done. Dogscoff is just putting together the Troop pics for me (which look mah-velous).

When I release the PT set i'll be unveiling a new central Homepage for all my sets, as well as sprucing up the existing Preview Pages for my 2 sets to make them look more spiffendicoulous.

As for my next adventure? I'm nailing down some models to update Fyron's War Fleet set from SE3. I'm also playing around with something else which, if it ever sees the light of day, would likely get me permenantly institutionalized. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Anyhoo, i'm off to read my new Sports Illustrated Mag.

Cheers!

/Katchoo looks around to see if David Gervais heard that, and quickly runs away in case he did/

thx katchoo;)

im really interested if you've played with rhinoceros?

also, since you did your excellent baseship in bryce, would you think of doing a whole shipset in bryce? what are the advantages?

i really do like your shipset a lot... i planned on making a similar shipset (without such huge engines mind you;) i am having problems dreaming up different designs for the different sizes without making them look tooo similar
