GG Burnsaber. This was my first MP game and my first real game with Marignon. It showed quite a bit. I had some bad luck with events (heck I was 3 misfortune, but I thought my 3 order would balance that), I screwed up some of my research, and I think I just had a bad matchup with Machaka (at least this early in the game). But, once I thought I had my feet solidly under me again, I had two knights events come along and those hurt bad as they were some of my better territories and one separated my empire in two.

That said, you were able to take advantage of the mistakes which is what separates the good players from the bad. Those spiders of yours were killer, and I just didn't have any mages that were capable of going after their weaknesses. I still don't know exactly what I could have done to take them down given my situation. I didn't have the diversity of magic I needed to really hurt them.

GG, it was fun playing with all of you and hopefully, I will see you guys in other games.

I actually stopped recruiting spiders after we had both attacked that single province and you saw my spiders effectiviness (six months before the actual war started). The spiders without rider have mag res 8. I just thought you were going to research Thaumaturgy 4 and paralyze them. 3 Grand Masters could have taken ~9 spiders with that spell. Perhaps you didn't have time to reach Thau4?

I know some people are fans of Order 3 and Misfortune 3, but I'm a bit too paranoid to take that. I usually have Order 3 and Misfortune2/Misfortune1 if I can afford it. I'm not that experienced player so I'm not basing this on anything concrete evidence, misfortune 3 just seems so creepy.

That was my problem, I didn't have time to research up to Thau4. Most of my good spells are in Evo and Ench is looks like. But, I probably should have researched up to Thau4.

I wouldn't have had issues with the knights, except that I was dealing with you (and aside from the spiders, I think our forces were even). My forces were off doing other things that were more pressing than taking those provinces back over.

The killer may have been taking the drain, but I felt that it was necessary to do that to take the Order and Production. Production is a must for Marignon, but I might experiment with some other scales next time I play them. The other issue is that I should have taken a pretender with some death scales. That would have made conjuration a viable magic school for me.

Still, first time playing a nation is a learning experience.

[Late summer is a busy month for me travel-wise I guess] I will remind people in a few days, but I'll be out of town from Friday morning - Monday evening (PST) this weekend ... possible to delay?

I'll delay it. PM me after you take your last turn and remind me when you expect to be back.

Holy magic.

I just got reamed- 200 losses to 7.

Yeah, oceania, abysia definitely doesn't need your help, here. I got nothing to counter that right now.

PM me before leaving with a reminder of how long to delay the processing.

After the next turn processes I will delay the game until next Thursday to accomodate the two people who will be away. (one PM'd me)

About what time should the turn run on Thursday the 23rd?

I may be getting a sub for this game, although it is more likely that I will turn it AI instead. As it is, I can hardly fend off the weaker of the two nations preying on me.

Re: Marignon has fallen

Heh. Hey Caelum, regretting the invasion yet?

I offered you a chance to back off, when you ended the NAP, and to take what you had originally asked for before declaring war. (I didn't know it was do-this-or-war, btw; would have helped if I had.) Then I warned you, when you attacked me while I was occupied in a war with Agartha, that you would regret that decision.

When I couldn't fend off your highly-mobile armies, and you kept Seeker-Arrowing my leaders off, I knew I had lost the game. So I switched gears, and decided to make sure I brought *you* down with me.

I have been besieging your home capital, while you beseige my two castles. I assume you sent 22 of your leaders out to attack me because I had almost brought your walls down, in a last desperate attempt to save your home province--and now they're all dead. 22 strong researchers and spellcasters, gone. That must hurt.

You may be rebuilding your walls now by weakening my army, but defeating your castle was never my true goal (though it would have been nice to tear down your castle and lab, I must admit). Shutting your production down was. And at 132 unrest and climbing, with my army still occupying, you aren't going to be using that province again any time soon.

And you aren't going to break down my own walls anytime soon, either. I can summon defenders at will, and have effectively infinite supplies. All you're doing is keeping your armies occupied. Fine by me!

Next game, you might want to pick your wars a...bit more wisely.

To the others, Caelum only has two castles free atm, with low production values. Their armies are currently locked in sieges with me. The provinces they conquered have been at 200 taxation for a long time now. They are ripe for the plucking.

To Agartha: I'm sorry. I attacked you because you were the only nation I never spoke with, and you *looked* the weakest. Yet you turned out to be the most honourable and good-natured of my neighbours. I only wish I knew that before I chose my target.

Lesson learned. Sound out your neighbours' nature before attacking. If I had done that, I would have offered to *ally* with Agartha *against* Caelum. Ah well, lesson learned. : )

For my very first MP game, I didn't do *too* badly--though I did not do very well, I must admit. At least I have learned from a *lot* of mistakes.

I will stay in play until I know for sure Caelum's going down, then set myself to A.I. There is an in-game message along these lines coming, for those that may not read the forums.

Have fun, the rest of you!
