Anybody want to place bets on how many pearls Pythium gets next turn from the Nexus?
My guess is 185... Yowsa.

Too high for this turn, maybe... But let's see.

I don't really like the wink graemlin... It's not smiling enough, and it's not winking wickedly enough - not that I need all that much, but this little yellow guy looks like he's just learning how.

Dang, all this time I thought it was the one that only puts up 5 astral gems a turn. Is this the global that went up this turn?

(BTW, Illwinter, Johan and all : How's about giving us a proper message about who cast a global and what global it is, in Dom3?)

And when does the voting on Proposition 35 close? We need timestamps on the propositions so people know when they need to vote by.

Re: Turn 66

You can check the "recent changes" page and look for when the proposition page was created. I think the wiki is still on EST (not EDT).

Looks like prop 35 was up near midnight (+/- 1 hr), and prop 36 went up 5pm-ish.

Re: Turn 66

Looks like "Server time" for the Wiki is GMT, and everyone should set their local time for the wiki in their preferences to be least confused. Proposition 35 was created April 18 05:15 GMT and Proposition 36 at April 18 22:31.

Thanks for the reminder-- if anyone has recently gone through daylight savings time they will have to reset their "time zone" preferences in order to have the wiki display times in their local frame.

There are now 1 hour and 35 minutes left to vote on 35.

Turn 69

Turn 69 has been sent. Abysia, Mictlan, and Machaka all staled.

The next turn is due Sunday at 5 PM EDT.

Proposition 33

Just to let everyone know, Proposition 33 (proposed on turn 59) had a 10 month time limit and it has therefore expired, I believe.

Re: Turn 69

Bah! Panther, that's _three_ of us who sent our turns in and got a stale? Feh!

It'd be _real_ nice if people could get a return receipt in the PBEM games.

This certainly stands as a nice counterpoint to our old debate about whether pbem games are better than server games : with a server game, a player can make sure that his turn has been uploaded / received.

The Panther April 21st, 2006 12:34 AM

Re: Turn 69

I am willing to rehost last turn since there were three emails who did not get through. I still have yet to receive even one of the three lost emails. Also, Pasha has been having big problems too, and several of his emails have been lost lately.

One caveat - All three of you must NOT change your missing turn because you have now seen the result of the latest turn.

And yes, Cainehill, I do have to agree with you that this is a counter to my argument in favor of PBEM vs server.

So, please send me your lost turns and I will rehost tomorrow.

Finally, I am turning hosting over to Ygorl this weekend. Hopefully his email server will do better than mine has been doing lately.

Cainehill April 21st, 2006 01:07 AM

Re: Turn 69

I have to redo mine, 'cause I hit 'E' in dismay on seeing that I staled - over-wrote the turn I had sent. But will redo it as close as possible to what I had done, which had no combat / war stuff : just research, site searching, forging, casting globals, assassinations, er - not those last two. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

BTW, Panther - you ever check out Turtle Mountain in Rio Rancho while you were here? Just made it there yesterday - damn fine beer, and I have to agree with people who told me it was the best pizza in ABQ area.

Turn 69

Turn 69 has been sent.

The next deadline is Monday at 5 PM EDT. After I receive all the new 2h files, I will turn over everything to Ygorl and Turn 70 will come from him.

djo April 21st, 2006 08:48 PM

Re: Turn 69

People might want to delete their .2h files from the old turn before playing the new one (if you opened the first turn). I vaguely recall that being "good hygeine" to guard against further weirdness, from the Yarnspinners 2 replay troubles.

Hey, we dominion-killed Sak this time around!

Good advice, djo. I found a longdead horseman who looked like a leader on the world map, but wasn't.

And, everyone, there's an exciting (well, actually pretty tame compared to some of what's been flowing recently) new proposition up.

Re: Turn 69

Having two heads, we like to hear both sides of an issue before passing judgement.

(Jack says: and we like to compare the size of the bribes from both sides...)

Looks like voting on this one would be closed late Sunday EDT, but so far doesn't look close to a quorum.

RonD April 23rd, 2006 09:19 AM

Re: Turn 69

Yep, hoping to hear from Zona Nyl before weighing in.

What happens if the proposition fails? Will Ermor be rouge, or do you plan to work out a private compensation deal?

Ygorl April 23rd, 2006 12:33 PM

Re: Turn 69

I don't know why Folket hasn't said anything... I was wavering between puting up the proposition and just contacting him in private; in the end, this seemed like the more interesting route, and so I took it. It doesn't seem to have worked out as planned, however... It's not interesting if nobody votes or discusses or anything! Ah well... Wyrms are a fickle bunch, eh?

Or maybe, perhaps, their motivating spirits are just busy for the weekend.

If it doesn't pass? I don't know. I hadn't really considered that part. I'd hate to drive someone rogue over a mis-reading of a proposition... I guess I'd first try the same deal, but just between me and Folket, without the public show and the bribes to y'all. Maybe that's what I should have done in the first place, but this way seemed more in the spirit of the game.

Ygorl April 24th, 2006 12:36 AM

New hosting

I'm still missing files from Abysia, C'tis, Ermor, and T'ien Ch'i. Given Panther's email problem, it's quite possible that they sent files that simply never reached him. Since that would mean a delay until Monday at least, anyway, I figure we'll just push the hosting until Tuesday.

Two other small things that'll be slightly different:
One, I often don't get home at night until well after five. The deadline will be 8 pm EDT, and I'll try to get the turns out right at that time. Two, it's considerably easier for me if you don't compress your .2h files in any way - just attach them as the raw .2h files. If we start to get a lot of corrupt .2h files as a result (I don't know if this is ever a problem? Anyone with more experience care to chime in?) I'll change this policy, but for now let's give it a shot (unless people tell me that it is a big problem... I doubt it, though, since I know I and many others have been sending .2h files without incident). Every file you send is validated by the game engine as soon as I receive it, and you'll get an email if there's a problem, so it's not the case that corruption will appear unnoticed until later.

Thanks, everyone!

PashaDawg April 24th, 2006 01:37 PM

Re: New hosting

When I hosted the original PBEM RAND game, it was extremely rare that .2h files would get corrupted, and it was a huge pain if files were sent as zips. "Raw" files are the best way to go.

Ygorl April 24th, 2006 08:46 PM

Re: New hosting

Not only has there been no word in the Council from Zona Nyl, I don't have Ermor's turn from Folket. Is anyone in another game with him? Is he around?

Looks like the last words he posted in the forum here was a guess that the next COW turn would host on Tuesday... Maybe he just hasn't bothered checking anything since then?

The Panther April 24th, 2006 08:52 PM

Bummer... I hope he gets back soon!

The Panther April 24th, 2006 10:24 PM

Re: New hosting

As for the 2h files, the turns from Atlantis were frequently corrupted when I received them. However, when he started packing them into a zip, it worked every time.

I think it has something to do with Microsoft Explorer. Of course, I think EVERY computer problem has something to do with Microsoft..... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: New hosting

OK, obviously some problems. Sorry about that, folks... Let me see if I can figure it out quickly (and if not, I'll send all the turns out the old-fashioned way).

If this makes it impossible for someone to get a turn in, let me know.

Cainehill April 26th, 2006 01:39 AM

Re: New hosting

Gotten 5 now, but still no turn file. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif No problem Ygorl - appreciate you taking over, a few glitches are to be expected - might need to delay the hosting if we don't get the turns though.

Ygorl April 26th, 2006 01:57 AM

Re: New hosting

I think I found the problem with double-emailing, and fixed it. I won't know for sure until I try again on Sunday though. Thanks for bearing with me (and once all the kinks are gone, I will release the script for anyone running PBEM on a Mac to use).

The files did go out on one of the two messages that I just sent (for a total of four emails... I'm sorry!) so if you can't find it make sure to check your spam folders, etc. If you still can't find it, let me know, and I'll re-send.

And Puffyn thought I was an experienced host... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: New hosting

Chris got turn 69 instead of turn 70. I don't understand how that happened, but I'm looking into it.

I got turn 70. Did anyone else get turn 69? Should I just resend to everyone?

Ygorl April 26th, 2006 02:24 AM

Re: New hosting

Also, I will delay hosting until Friday unless I get all turns by Thursday. Thanks again for y'all's patience.

The Panther April 26th, 2006 08:31 AM

Re: New hosting

I also got turn 69.

Cainehill April 26th, 2006 11:26 AM

Re: New hosting

Eh - I think y'all got 70. _But_ : Ygorl zipped it with the CoW directory in the zip file, so it unzips into dominions2/cow/cow - leaving the turn from 69 to be read by the game.

Suspect that if you look into your CoW directory you'll see that's the case - either move the file manually, or unzip into domionions2 vice dominions2/CoW.
