Sorry guys, looks like I won't be able to be there tonight. Just started my new job and I will probably be at work very late. If things change I will make an appearance, but don't count it.

I should be able to make it but the conductor called an emergency rehearsal for the concert tomorrow, so I'll be leaving about 6:45ish PST.

Well, bad news, I am going to be working on tuesday nights for a while. I am going to see if I can trade the shift for something later in the week, I'll let you know the results.

ZA, Violist and myself will all be able to do thursdays 5-8 PM PST (normal time, not hour later like last session) starting in 2 weeks. Thursday next week is no good for me. Will thursdays work for the rest of you?

So are we going to have a truncated session this week or wait till a new time is worked out? A short session might be ok as you just have to deal with the large mother troll.

Ok then clearly we aren't playing. I am puzzled by one thing though, Fyron appeared to have set up the server. I waited around but no one turned up. I waited for 30 minutes after he usually turns up.

I'd just like to point out the Fossergrim was there from the start. I didn't just add him to take the babies. He was supposed to help if the Rakka was too much, the idea being he gets angry when stone to mud defiles his pond.

Re: Online D&D Gaming --- Looking for new players!

I am seriously thinking about this, the question is only when would I have the time? Here are my *ahem* (it has been a very long time since I played last) credentials based on the first post in the thread:

When are you available: Not sure yet, need to take a long hard look at my schedule as I have four classes this semester.

Experience being DM: Yes, about four years but never thought I was very good at it. I am starting to DM for my family but this is in the very old basic edition of D&D. Easier for them to follow and I can always work them up to later version as they get better.

Would you like to DM: No, but if I understand right Narf has that base covered already.

Do you have the 3.0 or 3.5 player’s handbook? No, the edition I have is 2nd. This goes for all of my material which is pre-TSR buyout and mostly focused on DL. On the good side I have LOTS of material. It fills an entire box. I have no problem with buying the latest books and would want to before making a final decision. I don’t know how much TSR has changed the game and I prefer to play Magic with cards (jk).

E-Tools: I have seen the links for the tools in the thread.

So before I move forward to make a final yes or no does it sound as if I am qualified? If so are there any slots open and how would the character creation work, i.e. starting level, money, and any other adjustments to keep with the current party?

Re: Online D&D Gaming --- Looking for new players!

Well, first, I'm not running this game. I was running the other game, but Jack Simth does a much better job. I think too much to run a chat game well. On the other hand, I appear to do much better on forum games.

Second, 3.5 has a lot of changes. No thac0, no wierd 'lower AC is better', one standard level list...I'd recommend at least the Player's Handbook.

Oh - Online System Reference Document. All the information on it has an open liscence. Looking through it could help you know what has changed. http://www.d20srd.org/

Fyron April 7th, 2006 05:07 AM

Re: Online D&D Gaming --- Looking for new players!

Yeah, just go with the SRDs. You don't really need to buy the books these days, unless you prefer a hard copy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

"So before I move forward to make a final yes or no does it sound as if I am qualified?"

Certainly.

"If so are there any slots open..."

Honestly, we lose players all the time... There is always a seat for new players! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

"...and how would the character creation work, i.e. starting level, money, and any other adjustments to keep with the current party?"

We are currenly at level 6. The PHB (I think) contains a chart of starting gold based on level, which you can exchange for items. We don't keep too careful track of individual experience (at least, I don't), but rather just all level up at the same time when Randall tells us it is time.

We use a point buy system instead of silly dice rolls for statistics. I've got a table up on the site:

http://dnd.spaceempires.net/start.php

The characters we have are Narf as a wizard, Douglas as a Psion, ZeroAdunn as a... something with a bunch of nature skill, perhaps a ranger (he just joined recently), and myself as a fighter.

Re: Online D&D Gaming --- Looking for new players!

Note also that Fyron is a Thri-Keen. I'm perfectly happy with accomdating anything a player might want, we sort of let fly the fact that Fyron is this giant insect running around a Norse setting (at the moment). You're perfectly welcome to join, and other players seem to get along fine without the actual books. I'm the only one who needs tons of books for me to plan everything. Before you join however I would like to point out something that isn't really a problem as long as everyone else is happy with it. I feel we go along at quite a comfortable pace. Today, granted we started late, all we did was run a single encounter handing over some babies, and usually we get in 1 combat. I do sort of wish we moved along quicker, but as long as everyone is happy it's not a problem.

President_Elect_Shang April 7th, 2006 10:24 AM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

I don’t have a problem with the pace of things; it is just looking to find the time. Sounds like things have changed a lot which I expected in the TSR take over. You encountered a group of what? Babies, and the Thri-Kreen didn’t eat them? Must be Lawful-Good or did they toss out that system as well?

Fyron April 7th, 2006 11:20 AM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

The system has changed in 3.x, but IIRC 3.0 was started before the buyout. Note that 2.0 was perfectly fine with allowing monstrous PCs, having a few supplemental rulebooks to cover them (as with 3.x). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There were a group of fensir (trollish creatures without the regeneration) that had been preying on the likestock of farmers. The babies were left over after defeating the adults.

My thri-kreen was outvoted in my initial plans for the babies, sadly. Then I missed the session that finalized the last Fensir encounter.

Alignment is still alive and kicking.

He-he-he, I woulda had plans for them too. Stew, roasted, …

Now I am starting to feel tempted. I will try to pick up the book (3.5) today. I pass by a book store on my way to class, gee wonder why that is?
