Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

Reports of Marignon deaths have been greatly exaggerated. According to the Council's analysts, the most likely cause for this is that Ruin's astral mages are bringing him false reports. We suspect that they are doing so in order to advance their own positions, and to avoid shattering Ruin's illusions about the progress of the war. Certainly, none of his subordinates wants to face the gibbet by telling him he's lost half of his empire in just two months.

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

Amid this soap opera of near global war, the current Prime Minister of Gath, Iosif Satriani wishes to announce that the scoundrels of LA Caelum have declared an unjust war against our peaceful and neutral mountain peoples.

All who crave and believe in justice, should note wisely the implications of this act, which are twofold -

First, while Gath is stoicly neutral in the face of regional events, we have maintained a healthy and technologically advanced defense industry. Our forces are highly drilled, and we anticipate they will be fighting mostly on our home turf, so the misguided death cults of Caelum are sure to suffer terrible and costly losses in their invasion.

Second, our top military advisors (most of whom have cashed in their vacation time and flown out of country now) have long projected that full military engagement with LA Caelum would have a 97% chance of negative outcome for the people of Gath.

Ultimately, only the other neighbors of Caelum can fully appreciate the ramifications of this act of gross and belligerent bully-warmongering. Caelum will profit greatly from their acquisition, and will turn from their appetizer to look for a more filling meal elsewhere soon afterward. However, in the short term, they will be significantly weakened, first by the heavy blow that we shall deal to their ill-thought invasion force, and then due to sending reinforcements to deal with the horrors of war in the holy land.

~Iosif Satriani
Prime Minister of Gath
"We don't want to fight you, but if you attack us, we'll make other people want to fight you."

LA Marignon benefits, as does Ulm, from waging war in a section of my empire that is far from my capital, and does not connect. So you face no real armies in the South, other than a few elephants that trampled the harbinger last turn.

Once my Northern Realm is secure, I will retake what I lose in the South, expanding outwards from the LA Atlantis Capital, which, unlike my other forts in the South, is well defended.

It is going to be a long war. A very long war.

It's a good thing I'm lucky, then, because I seem to stale prolifically. I did my turn and forgot to send it in. In the middle of a giant war, too!

I wonder, about how much of the world is caught up in this war? I know that currently all of my neighbors are at war with me, and LA Arco is at war with quite a few big powers.

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

They fear what they do not comprehend. And they attack that which they fear.

In any event, LA Arcos. is the only one fighting Ulm that is defending itself from your aggression. So sending Ruin compensation for damages would be just and proper. Ruin will accept that submission and forgive your wanton act of destruction upon our people.

Bandar Log and LA Marignon would have to offer a King's ransom in fortune to atone for the damages to LA Arcoscephale's Empire. And if they had a crystal ball, it is a price they would gladly pay. For the Wrath of Ruin is great, but it is also guarded. And Ruin takes the measure of his foe before he counterstrikes.

It is now Early Spring in year 6. Before the year draws neigh, the peoples of Bandar Log and LA Marigon will curse their leaders for attacking Ruin. When their armies are diseased to the last man, and Ruin's armies finally burst forth from his castles, the wailing of his enemies will be great.

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

First of all, are you saying you declared war on both Bandar Log and LA Marignon (there may be others but to be honest I can't remember the names of everyone who's at war with you)? That was a rather stupid idea, then (unless you mean you're the only one of my numerous warr-ers who I declared war on, in which case well yeah, but I'm not sending you money I don't have for a peace I won't be able to enjoy). Second-I think they understand you quite well. I don't think they fear you, either. I think, for the most part, they have one of three reasons:

1) To protect me and at the very least stop LA Arco from gaining a fort-rich area that is, admittedly, poorly defended. Not a very likely reason but still.

2) They originally had plans to attack you, and simply found a good cover-reason and time to do it.

3) They want a part of your quite large empire while you're still alive, hoping the combined weight will bring you down.

Of course, there's also Utgard, who you declared war on. I guess you really needed to open up a third front to pour resources into. Funnily enough, both Utgard and Ulm have been at war with another nation once before-with Eriu. Eriu was also at war with LA Marignon, actually. We all know how that turned out. :angel

(one last thing-you've already admitted I've declared war on you. So, uhh, why aren't Ulm's people going to curse Monny? Are you assuming they'll be dead by then? Or is Ulm just too small to be of notice?)

Tricky Lich make puzzle. Utgard think this mean they fear that which they do not attack, hmm..err..they comprehend what they do not fear, no wait...to comprehend a thing it must be attacked??!!

Aghh..Utgard get headache. Utgard always at war from day 1. Never hardly say anything because in Utgard war is given. Now Arcos at war and make big deal. Tricky Lich sound scared - Utgard smell fear (drool, slathers down werewolf tongue)....

Peace? Who said anything about peace Darkwind. You are dead. Gems and gold would earn your soul a less torturous place in the infernal plane.

My message was not for you Utgard. Simple Beasts. Be content to slay whom your masters direct you to slay, and beg from whom they direct you to beg. And hope Ruin's fortunetellers are wrong.

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

And wearing a new hat and speaking as game admin., as Jazzepi is in 8 games and has school starting again, I am easing his burden,

do any of the large nations at war need 72 hours host? The game is on turn 60, and it will host to 61 on a 48 hour host. Kingmaker is the only game I am in, and my empire(now) is relatively small. So 48 hours is still a snap for me.

But there are players with nations twice my size that are at war now. So I would be open to discussion about moving to 72 hour host starting on turn 61(next turn). Obviously if you are not at war, or your nation is small, you will not get a large voice in this matter.

I do not want Kingmaker decided by which of the biggest nation's players is in the fewest games, or which guy is willing to tick off his wife the most to put in the time to do a proper turn.

Outside factors are generally not reasons to move to a 72 hour host 8 turns early.
But I am aware that school has started back and many players are students and have less time now then when the game started.

Zeldor October 2nd, 2008 07:03 AM

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

I'd like to stick with 48 for 10-20 more turns. But I guess Marignon is the one with biggest problems now.

Xietor October 2nd, 2008 07:10 AM

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

At turn 70 we will be moving to a 72 hour host as per the original thread outlining the hosting time for the game.

The only issue is whether any large power at war needs the timer to be moved to 72 now to get a proper turn in. The game was initially delayed waiting on the patch adding the 3 new nations so we should have reached turn 70 before school started. We also had the week with Ike taking down Llamaserver's mail system.

I never really anticipated we would hit October and only be on turn 60 as I am quite good at moving games along.

Though the vast EA C'tis empire is indeed vast, we don't require a move to 72-hours just yet.

I don't have any objections to the shift if there's majority interest, though. It will just give us more time to fine-tune the movements of our vast hordes of lizard warriors.

As for my "master", that would be my wife and she doesn't care who I attack.

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

I for one would like a 72h host. Not that I necessarily matter considering that by turn 70 at most Ulm will likely be gone.

Why would I give gold I don't have and gems I direly need to an enemy who needs all the gems and gold they can get? Does Ruin understand basic logic or has pretender-godhood addled his brains? Ulm will put up as much opposition as it can, though that is admittedly very little opposition. You can be assured that Ulm's gems and gold supplies will not go to any of its enemies.

Xietor October 2nd, 2008 03:39 PM

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

no problem Darkwind,

We did not want your gold and gems until your last turn. Then we thought a gift of some sort might make ease your guilt in attacking our Empire. But if you have no guilt give your gems to the Lizards. We care not.

Bad Karma will continue to plague you.

Though you could donate your gems to MA Man, and that is the jackpot for the winner of the next Arena Fight. Which we promise you will not be won by anyone with fur.

Haven't you heard? EA C'tis is at war with me too. I have enemies on quite literally every side. It's a bit sad, really, how I actually armed C'tis's Bane Lords for battle. I'll make the best of it though, and perhaps take back a few of those items :)

Coming from a nation who has yet to savor the thrill of victory in the arena we don't take Arcos seriously. We know your warriors look like a Brad Pitt and like to wrestle skinny boys. Send your monstrous undead and they will be smitten down - surely someone will script wither bones x5. :) It is too bad that Two Eyes is forced to use the stupid trident champion as a weapon because otherwise he'd talk a lot more trash about winning the next arena.

Xietor October 3rd, 2008 09:42 AM

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

Not much of a push for an early move to 72 hours. EA Mictlan is a voice I took seriously, but it was one alone of nations with numbers of provinces and armies to manage. So we will remain on schedule with the 48 hour hosting until turn 70, as outlines in the original thread, and move to 72 hours on turn 70.

On another note, if there is a nation looking for an easy capital to grab, I know where one is. An it belongs to a nation with overextended armies, 300 now of which are diseased, and many far from the home borders(and most not making it home either).

http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...257cafb02g.jpg

Lightly guarded capital. hard to find one easier to take. PM me if you want to take out bloodhunters. I know some provinces where some bloodhunters are just plying their unholy trade. a few random spells and you can put a dent in one of your competitors.

The Council of Marignon would post an in-depth response to the endless lies of LA Arco, but our schedule is already quite full managing our growing empire and endless armies. Suffice to say, Ruin is posting his messages of victory while losing yet more provinces, and while he is personally under siege by a large army. One is reminded of the children's tale of the great king of Irack, and how he boasted to his people of victory even as the enemy's iron dragons rumbled down the streets of his city.

I have PM'ed Llama about the prize fund (its his baby), to see if he can publish the amount, in gold and gems. I have suggested it should be 150% to 200% greater than last time, to reflect current power levels in the game and encourage the best SC's/thugs.

Arena turnout was disappointing - it seems folks are taking the game a little too seriously. At least send someone.

We salute LA Arcos for having the balls to enter the arena though his champion's lifespan was surprisingly short. Congrats to Mictlan for slaughtering Two-Eyes, the savior of Utgard who was made prophet after his champion's purse helped us turn the tides against the sidhe, so many years ago. RIP Two-Eyes, a nation mourns your passing.

Mictlan, enjoy the champion's trident. May it serve you as well as it served Two-Eyes... :)

The devil hung his head because he knew that he'd been beat, and he laid that golden fiddle on the ground at Johnny's feet."

Our hat is off to Two Eyes who took out our Banelord in one round. In retrospect a vine or eye shield would have served him better. But I thought there would be more contestants and was worried about not having 100 fr.

As it turned our, had I beaten Furball, I would have needed the 100 fr in round 2. I think a banelord would match up well against a werewolf generally. Them just how the cards fell.

Good Match Utgard.

Indeed, may Two-Eyes enjoy a well deserved rest after being a worthy former champion. The tridents nice and all but where's my cash and gems?

Surprised only 3 contestants turned up at this stage, 4,000 gps + 60 pearls + considerable experience + a magic trident seems a very worthy prize to me. What do people want to send a worthy hero to the arena?!?

LA Marignon said some time back:

I wonder what the Council thinks now that Ruin took a hand in the combat himself starting 2 turns ago and leaving over 100 dead on the battlefield, and countless more maimed and diseased. And now LA Arcos. Elephants have stormed forth from their castles to trample crossbowman, mage, and pike alike.

Ruin unleashes new terrors on his enemies this turn. As Ruin said when this invasion was launched, it is not who lands the first blow, but who wins the war of attrition. Ruin has gauged well what LA marignon can throw at us, and finds it lacking.

Re: KingMaker - let the Ascension War commence!

Kauthuga's mead hall glowed through the wintery mist. The Nemedian scout gazed down from the high peak, the raucous laughter and howls of the wolven warriors drifting up from the snow covered valley. He spat, rubbing his hands together in an effort to revive the cold deadened nerves. The moonlight gleamed and danced upon his bronze armor, then shimmered as he vanished into the mists, leaving only red droplets that fell from his side to mark his passing.

Gathered below in the ancient hall were the mightiest reavers of Utgard. Those whose victims numbered in the thousands, the destroyers of civilizations, merciless and cruel. Hanging upon their belts were the heads of those who had once ruled great kingdoms: The High Astrologers of Arcos, the Sidhe Queens of Eriu, and the Celestial Ministers of Tien Chi. With twisted limbs, scarred faces, and eyes that burned with hatred, the berserkers bellowed and roared, and cursed the gods.

The Nemedian smiled.

A flash of light and the barbarian wolfkin drew silent in an instant - nothing could be heard but the snapping flames in the hearth. A lone Nemedian stood at the far end of the hall, one hand bearing a crystal staff, the other concealed within his cloak.

"Utgard, your age of destruction is eclipsed. We give answer to your savagery" and in an explosion of movement, the Nemedian vanished and in his place lie a pile of heads, Utgardian scouts and messengers, all of whom had vanished in the last months on missions to the northern wastes.

The thanes howled in rage but the Nemedian was gone. They reached for their giant rune-scripted blades and roared out through the wintery night.

War had found Utgard again.

Beneath the din and clamor, the bonecasters whisper this will be the last.

I will not pester nations too often. likely be another 20 turns before we declare how many you own again.

Let's put it this way, if you count your own now, you can count it as one of your 15 when you declare yourself the winner. If you do not count it now, you will need 16 capitals to win. So I will leave it up to you.:smirk:
