Re: Victorious Nations/Hall of Honor

This game is disputed by me as a legitimate victory as, when confronted with an equal opponent, instead of fighting for supremacy as would be right, he had his friends explicitly throw the game. Easily defensible VP's were abandoned to wraithlord's small force; Aristander, in fact, along with Wraithlord, even cast crumble on his own Capital in order to make the walls tumble and the previously evacuated VP fall. Thus, the "win" proves nothing, other than the extent to which some players will go in order to advance their HoF. How does this action merit displacing Calmon in the standings?

One needs to ask what the point of a a Roll of Honour is - is it to commend outstanding play? is it to determine the relative propensity of a nation to win? Neither of these are met by Wraithlord's low actions.

It certainly was technically a victory, as the game threw up the message.

Wraithlord was in full collusion in having the game thrown, which has not been denied. There are good reasons why such actions are considered illegitimate in all competitive endeavours; although it is also clear that there is a broad diplomatic grey area in Dominions.

In the many years I have played Dominions, I have never seen the like. Is this unprecedented amongst the games included in this thread? If anyone is aware of this situation previously occuring, I would much appreciate a link to the game thread.

In some places repeating the same msg over and over is considered spamming.

I think you posting in every thread I posted at today is borderline harassment. There's taking your loss badly and there's what you're doing which is being vengeful and spiteful.

Any forum moderators that may see please consider whether or not this is proper conduct. This place should be friendly, polite and civil. Please help make sure it stays that way.

It is important that certain information be made public. I understand how you may be ashamed of what was done, but that is not a sufficient reason for the free speech in the community to be curtailed. Please restrain yourself to countering the facts, or providing argument. I know I will.

Re: Victorious Nations/Hall of Honor

archaeolept,

Guess what. There is a note in the board rules on free speech and I quote:

Quote:

What? Free Speech!
And finally if your response is: I have a right to free speech! What right do you have to delete/edit/move/etc my messages? Yes, you may have a right to free speech, but not here. When you signed up for the Shrapnel Communitys message boards, you voluntarily gave up the right to certain kinds of speech in return for the ability to use the boards. Shrapnel Games is a private business, and if you'd actually read the Bill of Rights, you'll see that "Freedom of Speech" applies to the government, not here.
As a user in another thread put it best I will quote him as well:

Quote:

You guys are both key figures in the community - it would be nice to smooth this out and move on.
Please let this be the end of it so I don't have to use my anti-free-speech powers of doom. :)

Thanks!

Re: Victorious Nations/Hall of Honor

I am not at all ashamed :)
I worked hard in order to win this game.
Last turns each took > 7 hours to do. I covered all the angles and you didn't stand a chance to win. I am willing to share my turn files with anyone who wants to verify that. I have had no nefarious cabal with any player to win the game, nor have I persuaded, threatened, mind controlled or did in any other way influenced my allies actions. I gave a fair warning before attacking his VPs. Yes, my ally went ahead and helped me of his own volition, so what?- I don't condemn him for this, quite the opposite, had I been in a similar situation: hating nation A enough and wanting to help nation B enough then I'd probably find a way to help . Be it by sending all my gems, or items, or armies or whatever I can to make sure I influence the end result.

[removed last bit, thank you Ballbarian for putting an end to this. I can delete this whole response as well if required.]

Re: Victorious Nations/Hall of Honor

yes, sorry Balbarian, I did not mean to imply that free speech in this community existed w/out restrictions. I will endeavour to ensure that all further discussion on this issue sticks to facts, reasoned supposition, and polite argument; invective and the like is to be fully avoided.
