The power kicked on about an hour and a half ago. I spent the first half-hour using the shop-vac to suck up water from the basement. Then I did my PBW turns. Now I'm here.
EDIT - To answer your question, Roanon, the Last real hurricane that hit the DC area was back in 1933. It was pretty bad as I hear, and this one comes close. Still hundreds of thousands in the region with no power. A real controversy is brewing in that the Maryland power company (PEPCO) is handing out dry ice for their customers to keep their freezers cold, and Dominion Power (the Virginia utility) is not. The western part of Maryland is not on Pepco, although we do host their main generation plant. Well it was theirs before deregulation. Alleghany power is pretty good about repairs; we have been back up most of the day.
Anyone get any damage? Mine is limited to tree tops and some shingles. |
