Like here. A snowstorm in Bavaria, everyone there drives a bit more carefully and nothing special happens. A single lone snowflake sighted in the Ruhr Area, and all start acting like crazy and cause total traffic breakdown because of "dangerous weather conditions". Sigh.

The power kicked on about an hour and a half ago. I spent the first half-hour using the shop-vac to suck up water from the basement. Then I did my PBW turns. Now I'm here.

EDIT - To answer your question, Roanon, the Last real hurricane that hit the DC area was back in 1933. It was pretty bad as I hear, and this one comes close. Still hundreds of thousands in the region with no power. A real controversy is brewing in that the Maryland power company (PEPCO) is handing out dry ice for their customers to keep their freezers cold, and Dominion Power (the Virginia utility) is not.

The western part of Maryland is not on Pepco, although we do host their main generation plant. Well it was theirs before deregulation. Alleghany power is pretty good about repairs; we have been back up most of the day.

Anyone get any damage? Mine is limited to tree tops and some shingles.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I remember when we would get just a tiny amount of snow (maybe 1 centimeter) Most of the people would rush to the grocery store to stock up on before the deadly snow came. The only time this action was even remotly justified was when the "perfect Storm" came thru and gave us a nice blizzard. Btw, this was when I was in middle Tennessee.
