You play Invasion! the same way you play any other mod what do you need documentation for you seem to have figured out FQM alright check the readme and the Invasion! thread for any details

Note that the FQM Deluxe Readme has this text in the Installation section:

Also, you will need to download and install the Image Mod. It can be installed into the default Pictures folder. It is located at http://www.geocities.com/hohoho611ca/imagepack.html

It gives the location of the Image Mod home page.

Well Geocities is evil and does not give very much bandwidth. The newer home is http://imagemodserver.mine.nu/Imagemod/index.html . But, you will get better bandwidth at some mirrors, such as http://imagemod.spaceempires.net/ , if you have a broadband internet connection. You only need the Planet Pack for FQM, but you need the other packs for other mods, so best to get them all.
