I found that fighters work well in large numbers. When I have used carriers I usually launch 10-15 at a time and have enough in storage to launch at least 1 if not 2 more full compliments. I expect them to be targets and need to be replaced. Lots of fun when you're involved in a massive battle against 5+ ships for instance. Switching the targeting for your fighters and ship to maximize damage potential.
And it looks really impressive when you've 15 fighters flying in formation around your ship. |

Their high cost aggravates the problem of their loss rate to both enemy fire and 'fratricide'. I wonder if they shouldn't be reduced considerably in price.
I think their biggest advantage though is that you can attack at long range withour risking your main ship. If only Starfury could be tweaked to make this a useful/essential feature. Well, perhaps a game mod can sort out that and make fighters more useful, will have to remember to look into this

How come they hit each other and bump into meteors !?!?! Or even hit other starships, it's a good thing but still costy.I guess you're right about how good it feels to launch a fleet of fighters,i haven't tried it yet.Are all the fighters same, because i saw different kinds of them each belonging to a different race.And DeadZone,please DO look into it.

They're faster than the other ships, which means the collision detection code has less time to work. Combine that with said code not being the best, and..SPLAT.
You can see the same thing with the other ships if you turn on time compression. |

The Sithrak you'll run into later. The Null Space Cannon is a nasty little torpedo that skips all shields and armor.
