With Ulm, making a rainbow alchemist, 2 in every magic, sending him to search my first (non-capital) province, and having him find a disease spreading site. Discovering that he got a disease on turn 3, and would die long before I had any hope of reaching anything that could save him (gift of health, regen ring, anything), and thus lose 1 level in each magic path....

Graeme Dice,

I agree with you that the documents do say that it can hurt things that aren't cold-blooded.

However...you pick your pretender before you pick special themes...right? So why would that even be available to a warm-blooded pretender if it's going to hurt him?

My reasoning...which I now know to be faulty...was that surely a pretender's own dominion can't kill or harm him. Of course I was dead wrong, but for a new player that isn't totally stupid reasoning.

I just restarted taking another pretender. No harm. And a valuable lesson learned.

Anyways I decided to test out the artifact on a telestic animation statue in case it gave a surprise horror mark the way boots of the planes did. Which the boots of the planes said NOTHING about. I slide the helm onto one of the statues... no afflications or bad side effects. Then I discovered it can't be removed... again the description says nothing about that. Then I realized the mummification spell doesn't work underwater where this statue is at ! And guess what no description at all on the mummification spell either.

Items have a nice history but lack listing the facts. Being that this is a TBS game hopefully Dominions_3 will provide the facts first and the history/story second.

So I like it like it is and do not want a change.
But only because I like it dosent mean everything

--Rago won't stop summoning lesser horrors... even after a rout!--

Here's the problem I had. Maybe you guys can offer up some suggestions, or at least commiserate. (Also, I'm at work, so please forgive the parts where I forget the names of items.)

I was playing Abyssia (obviously). I took Rago, and equipped him with the "twin spears", one of which allows him to summon lesser horrors. I also equipped him with the "sandals that allow you to teleport around the battlefield", and the "Bracers that reduce/eliminate fatigue". Rago was leading an army, and there were a few other commanders present.

I had this retinue invade an independent territory with a fairly large force. The independent forces routed fairly quickly due in large part to the fact that Rago would teleport all around summoning these horrors. I lost very few units up to this point. Unfortunately, Rago would not stop. I guess the fact that the horrors would turn on my army, caused Rago to get stuck in a loop of summoning. He would summon a horror to counter the previous horror. I lost about 50 units in this manner, and it was only by dumb luck, I suppose, that the battle ever ended.

I am thinking maybe if I remove the bracers next time, he will wear himself out?

I think that if you explicitly give a commander orders to Attack, he won't use spells incl. item spells such as calling lesser horrors.

My 8 death pretender can literally take out armies of 100+ units with 30 death gems.

Bone Grinding
Rigor Mortis
Undead Horde
Drain Life
HUGE Terrors spells

Ohh it was beautiful. So next time you decide to wind ride my immortal pretender, please note he can take out just about anything without being scripted, not to mention he CAN and WILL take out your puny vampire queen if you plan on using it.
