Re: What is the etymology of your moniker?

Tanus was a character in the book River God, by Wilbur Smith. Just liked the name when I read it, and have used it ever since.

Wizard

Arcane

......

Wizarc

In my AD&D days I was a damn good gamemaster. Always loved Wizard characters and the Arcane.

Atrocities September 27th, 2004 02:57 AM

Re: What is the etymology of your moniker?

Atrocities - Because it sounded threatening and such for use with MP games like Tribes, Diablo, Quake (1 and 2), etc.

narf poit chez BOOM September 27th, 2004 04:31 AM

Re: What is the etymology of your moniker?

Well, there was an episode of Pinky and The Brain where Pinky's weird exclamative words saved the day. They had been captured by an evil computer who claimed to know everything; The Brain asked it what Narf meant. The computer didn't know and asked what it meant. The Brain then informed the computer that Narf meant Poit. Then the computer asked what Poit meant. TB said it meant Chez. The computer asked what Chez meant. The Brain said Narf. And the computer went round and round until it blew up.

I saw that episode the day before I signed up, I think.

Karibu September 27th, 2004 09:17 AM

Re: What is the etymology of your moniker?

Karibu is similar (by outfit) to cariboe which is a common animal in Finland. It also has some resemblance to my real life name. Furthermore, one of my working colleagues called me "Karibu" in my ex-working place, where it was my unofficial nick. Plus I like the name so I decided to use it in here also.

Eew. That is sort of creepy how much of me is out there in the aether. It gets worse when you use my actual name...Need to start limiting my web presence I think...

Here's an interesting way to play with this thread, do a google search for your name/nick/handle and see if anything interesting shows up.

Re: What is the etymology of your moniker?

Well, a friend of mine called me that before she went to Australia. The name stuck.
My Last GF hated the name and that made it more fun to use it... hehe...
She said it sounded a little bit too dead, like tombstone. A bit strange I guess, because she herself was a fanatic gothic girl. Doesn't make any sense, does it?

tesco samoa September 27th, 2004 12:55 PM

Re: What is the etymology of your moniker?

tesco samoa

hmmm...

well tesco was my nickname back in the 80's

and well in university (late 80's and early 90's )I lived in a house where we put on concerts and called the place samoa. Each band that played had to play one Angry samoans cover song. As it was the only band that every one in the house had listed in their top 10 bands...

So everyone there called me tesco samoa

And in bbs days i used tesco... so back in the early 90's i updated it to tesco samoa.

Now I use it everywhere.

Also back around 93 to 96 I used to get all the email from that company called Tesco ( not the transport company in North America that we all know over here ) but the box chain in U.K. ( I believe ) I used to answer them and sign them tescosamoa. I soon discovered English people have no sence of humour http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
