Looking good. As my son would say, "neato".

As far as Silent Running, yeah they used that model (or the CGI equivalent) in both the original series and the new one. Guess you can't let a good model die. As a matter of fact, I think that in the original series they just about used every sci-fi model ever used in a movie (except for Star Wars).

Is this race any relation to the UNSC found in the sci-fi miniatures game Full Thrust by Jon M. Tuffley? If so, then are you going to make the NAC or ESU or FSE ships as well?
I've played around with building an NSL fleet, but I've yet to finish it.

Full Thrust is a minatures space combat rules set. Pretty good one too.

Here's my first fighter design. I'm not quite satisfied, but it looks cool. I haven't finished texturing it yet.

pretty good fighter. I would suggest making the cockpit section smaller compared to the engine section.

Neat. Maybe not a cockpit, but something to make it look more neat.
