Re: SFTC PBW Game
Ah I found your problem. All of the strategies your empire uses are from Stock. When a mod (any mod) uses a new unit type the SE5 program freaks out and commands the ship to run. Now I suspect I know how the default strategies managed to ignore the ones I provided. Did you happen to take a saved empire file and edit it for use in the save game you sent?

Re: SFTC PBW Game
I made the empire file from scratch, I know better than to use empire files from another mod. Today I made a frigate first and they fought, then I made a monitor like yesterday and again they ran. Yesterday I thought to change the strategy, though I forgot today, and they still ran.

Re: SFTC PBW Game
EDIT: SoD this is the file I would like you to download too.
I'm not sure why it didn't take the provided strategies. I would like to test something out though. Place this file in the folder replacing the Mod_Definition.txt that is there now. Start a new game then create a new empire. I think I know what you did and this should fix it. Edited in: As long as you are using the Stock strategies they will always run. The only way around this is to edit the strategies and include a line for "Shuttle" and "Shuttle Carrier". Edit: attachment removed, please use the below (or above) attachment to correct this problem. Thank you, PES |
Re: SFTC PBW Game
I copied it, pasted it to notepad, saved as the same name, removed the old mod def, placed the new one in, tried to create a new empire and it has no ship sets.

Re: SFTC PBW Game
if it's the strategies.txt file you're talking about, last time I looked this file was ignored by the game alltogether. even the one in the defult data folder.

I would agree with you se5a; however, I am not having this same problem. The empires I create are all using the SFTC strategies. I am lost as to why SoD and Randallw are getting the default ones forced on them. SoD can you do me two more favors? 1. Upload your current save game zipped up so I can take a look at it. 2. Start a new game and create a fresh empire totally from scratch. Save the empire and quit SE5. Start SE5 back up and make a new game but load the empire you saved, do not make another new one. After the game starts look at the strategies and if they are default start a new game from within the one that this running. In other words don't quit SE5 just start a new game. Once you do that create another empire from scratch, start playing, then look at the default strategies. You are looking for something with "Do Not Launch" or "Launch All Units". |

Thanks to Raapys I think I have this problem fixed. Something that he had said in the KB. It didn't strike me at the time; as obvious as it was, because I thought I had already eliminated this problem. SoD instead of the below try this:
1. Download and extract the file attached here and drop it into the SFTC folder. You should see three folders when you are done; "Data", "Empires", and "Pictures". 2. Start a new game and create a new empire. Now check the strategies and tell me what the default listed one is. Thanks again, PES |
Re: SFTC PBW Game
Ok, I dl this, added it to the folder and changed the allow main empires and now I have ships sets, plus the custom strats.

Re: SFTC PBW Game
Oh thanks! You are the man! So the problem is, as I suspected and Raapys figured out first. SE5 wants to read the Default AI strategies when it should be reading the Mod's strategies. I will pass this on to Aaron but it's low priority. I think us modders will have to live with this problem for a while. At least now we know how to fix it.

Re: SFTC PBW Game
So we will pick up the PBW discussion after the next patch from Aaron, and an updated version of SFTC from PES...
