That guy seems to be selectively paying attention to many things, history in particular. But then again most people who are tend to forget Japanese internment or the Red Scare.

Far more immediate seems to be the realization that far to many people have forgotten New York, Washington D.C., and that small field in PA. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Or the Armenian genocide, or the systematic elimination of native americans, or the Dresden, or Tokyo, firebombing. Where I live we had a systematic elimination of the native population, either killing them off or shipping them off to an island to die. History is full of such things and they only become controversial should the perpetrators fall afoul of public opinion. One could be principled and equally decry all such things, but bother pointing out the problem to people and I feel they tend to argue they were the enemy at the time, or ask where Armenia is. In the face of such things what's the point. Much of what the majority of the population takes as gospel tends to be otherwise if you bother to look into it. One of my hobbies is studying history, and people ask me why I get depressed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/fear.gif.

Why do we die? We die so that we never pass on the lessons we have learned to the next generation. Hence we are doomed to repeat them. And don't ever forget, had Japan gained the upper hand in WWII, it would have been our cities being fired bombed and our populations being eradicated. Such is the evil nature of war.

And regardless of how some folks feel, the United States has never produced an Adolf Hitler, Stalin, or Pol Pok in its 200 plus year existence. And any one who says that we have is just plain crazy.

Correction: The US has never produced someone as successfull, nor gone that far.

I'm sure there's quite a few people in the KKK who would do as bad, provided they had the opportunity and the capability.

The worse thing one can do for ones' nation is to assume that all is well in it.

As the quote says "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

It's interesting the sense of perspective you keep using because I'm sure if you asked a German in WW2 about Hitler he would have complimented his leadership. Perspective is always an interesting thing.

You make the assumption that interning all Japanese AMERICANS during WW2 somehow helped us win. Not only does that not make sense, it has no evidence to support it. Japan lost the war due to a lack of supplies. They didn't expect such a quick retaliation because they didn't expect the workforce of America to be compensated for by women. Two front wars are hard. The US has a major advantage in terms of geography and that's been 95% of the reason we've gotten as far as we have.

Nothing like having a giant moat around 1/2 your borders, is there?

With history repeating itself, the great depression of 2008 is nearly upon us. All the signs are there! All the same the same circumstances are already repeating themselves. Are you ready?

The media paints a lovely picture and all is well. By ignoring all the signs and taking action now, we will just pay a heavier price down the road. The media continues it's biased reporting and will be subject to accountability once the public realizes what the media is doing.

While I agree things are not great financially I don't think it will be another Great Depression. I can tell you the "stimulus" package that Bush is giving us all in June is going to make things worse though.
