Body Ethereal won't spread to all the slaves because it's not caster-only. For the same reason you might as well choose Flight over Mass Flight (all the slaves get it automatically when a master casts it).

To fight chain reactions, throw in a Stoneskin or Ironskin. Phoenix Pyre is actually quite bad at killing anything armored.
