It's pretty easy with a Great Sage. He gets 19 research to begin with. Add to that a handful of spell levels, which are cheap to him, and it's easy to get 37.

How do you get to know the exact number anyway?

C'tis has 25 earth gems to trade. Will trade 1:1 for any other type of gems except water.
