You Americans and Canadians are all far too insular - forget the continental united states, there is another world out there

Let's do the convention in Europe or even better, Thailand

Re: SEIV Con. 1 -- OHIO

This topic reminds me:

There is an annual LAN convention here in Michigan (actually there are a few of them at the universities) that I have to look up. I keep missing it every year and I want to go.

If I do go to one of the LAN parties, maybe I could see about getting SE4 up and running; that would be something!

And if there is a convention in Ohio, should it ever get organized, I'd go.

Wherever we have it, there must be at least 1 bar close by, where we can let our hair down, relax and discuss the finer arts of SE4. If we keep it small at first, 1 or 2 days, we would have a better chance of realization of the SE4 con. We could have Aaron and Richard give talks on the game/s, MM establishment give talks, The different Modders could give sessions on Modding the different aspects of the game to teach us rookies how to mod step by step, etc. IF possible we could set up a number of computers where players could play against each other in hot seat games, etc. Growltigga could discuss how to sip suds at sit down cafe's and watch the bouncing sites without getting caught, Gryphin to explain
the ins and outs of symbiote relationship to small furry Wooly Bears with small ears and Custer hats, Tesco & Puke to give a class on the proper make up of Sauce cuisine and SJ on how nomads shall inhabit the universe http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

just some ideas mac

Easy Mac, just keep your eyes moving quickly without focussing on anything for too long- alternatively, give the wife the credit card and point her at the nearest zara

No offence to Puke but with his handle, I would not want him within 20 yards of my kitchen when I am cooking

10 people in a brew pub for dinner followed by a nice evening of lan playing sounds like a good night to me.

Re: SEIV Con. 1 -- OHIO

There's always the thought of having a mini-con/gathering inside another SF convention. The next two big Ohio conventions would be MarCon (Columbus) and MilleniCon (Cincy). There may be other cons but they're not very large.

If the con or gathering happens, I'll do my best to be there. As if it were such a long drive from Ann Arbor to Ohio... though having it no further south than Columbus or Dayton would certainly improve my chances.

Re: Bars. Hey, guys, some of the fans may not be over 21. Gotta watch out for that.

Our younger players are welcomed, we'll just make sure that pepsi/coke is the order of the day....we'll let GT check their ID's.. and if they beat us in hot seat, well then, they are on their own.. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

PS. there used to be some good pubs/bars in Columbus at one time, don't know if they are still there, been awhile since I was there,

Hrm. Scratch Millennicon; that's in two weeks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Though people in the area (it's at King's Island) may be interested in checking it out nonetheless. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<blinks>

I'm a seargent, apparently. Seargeant? SeArgeant?? The misspelling demon strikes again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

A convention would break even and probalby turn a small profit. The key is to start small and build it each year as you gain experiance.
This worked for BattleGroupe Boston, (the miniatures wargame club I belonged to), and their convention "Havoc".
SG and MM, and other SG game companines will profit indirectly from exposure.
Cons are a lot of work. They can be very rewarding. They can also be a major financial risk if you guarantee a hotel X amount of rooms and they don't get filled.
I have a lot more thoughts if anybody would like them.
