Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!

I've been married 26 years. I've had a computer for about 22 of those years. For most of that time my wife regarded the computer as a direct competetor with her for my attention. She hated it.

I used to have to go to bed early with her, then get up in the way early morning to play for a few hours before work or school if I didn't want to be nagged.

We have two children(girls). It is good, because when my wife is nagging them she usually leaves me alone and with the computer!

Eventually, the girls got computers too. Since they tend to pay less attention to her when they are using their computers, and, most importantly, they make bigger messes and are bigger slobs then I, she usually forgets all about me and focuses all her nagging on them!

This, of course, allows me much more free time with my computer!

I think there is a moral to this story, however I haven't a clue as to what that it might be.

Hmmm, maybe, "Happy is the father of two daughters, for his wife will nag them!"

My wife doesn't even like it when I come here to read the Posts more than once a day...let alone play SEIV for more than 1/2 hr.

I guess I've got it made. My wife likes TV, I like gaming. From 6-11pm almost every night, she's in there, I'm in here. We do have an agreement to sit and talk at the dinner table, which seems to be all the interaction necessary for our lives. Well, not all!

One of my wives nagged me once, so I had her publicly whipped. End of problem. It is such fun being a male Al-Quaeda!

Dumbluck - I know, it sucks. It's about 60 miles along the motorway, and in the summer I can expect at least an extra half hour every Friday pm coz I live in the middle of a tourist resort. Costs me around 6% of my wages in fuel, too (and that's a carshare!)

Still, I seem to be kinda stuck with it=-(

My sweetheart is trying to learn SE IV. She does not want to become an "SE IV Widow".
She does follow the board but mostly the fiction and the Cantinna.

We have started a new game where she is Role Playing the "Trade Federation" idea.

Gentlemen,

My wife and I have a general agreement that I get one evening a week guaranteed (usually Sunday night) to game -- guilt free http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif . Any other time I spend on the computer playing games is usually at my own risk.

I recently introduced The Sims to my wife and she is playing it. I suppose that is because it is so very much like playing Barby. Also, she enjoys playing when I am playing rather than separately.

Wives are scary.....somtimes.

Cheers!

Re: SEIV or Marital Divorce!

I used to have that problem. I have mostly solved it by doing this:

As soon as I see my wife when I come home (or she comes home - whoever gets there Last), I sit down and give her at least 30 minutes of time where I just sit and listen about her day and issues. Not talk or comment but just listen. Oh, every now and then I might say something like "Oh, that must have been terrible!" or something like that... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

However, that little bit of time I devote to her sure makes those red-eye sessions on SEIV far more acceptable (and not just tolerable) to her. Seems to be a pretty good deal for me too - 1/2 hour of listening for 4-6 hours (or more) of SE time!!!
