Luck is quite a strong force IMO, especially in the early game. Your placement and minor factors any mid-late game emprie could absorb easily are very powerful at this stage.

Seriuosly though if I believed luck played a big part in this game, I wouldn't play it. Luck is random. Every game has a bunch of little coin flips that can have small effects on the game. A bad bounce here, a good one there. They both happen to everybody mroe or less equally. The skill comes in dealing with the bad ones, and taking advantage of the good ones. I wasn't saying that is unbalancing or all bad (as the events are) however, it is definitly there and you have to deal with it.
