Actually, the best solution would just be to remove the Ratings system entirely... it serves no useful purpose...

MegaTrain, I was just talking about solo games.

Regarding the rating system: I like one of the things they are doing on GalCiv.Com. When you click on a player, you can see how many games they have submitted to the MetaVerse. So, if you see that they have won lots of games on the highest level of difficulty, I might rate their opinion as more significant than that of someone who hasn't submitted any games at all. Of course, this system works quite well for a single player game that records your score and such. But it wouldn't work nearly so well here.

If you wanted to come up with a better ranking system, you might consider a formula that puts more weight on ranking of people who have in turn been ranked higher by others. Otherwise, the system is pretty much pointless.

Also, on GalCiv, they seem to assign higher ranks like 'Veteran' and 'Diplomat' to players that the site admins have noticed significant contributions from. That's a much less computationally intensive way of providing folks with a weigh of weighing Posts from different people.

That doesn't work well, actually. It is very easy for a very helpful member with lots of contributions to get a low ranking if they posted some controvercial stuff in OT threads that offended some people...

1. Start with the fleet and the warp opener in the same sector...
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Better still, start with fleet one sector away from the opener. Order it to move to the opener, then move to the target system. When it arrives at the opener it finds a brand new warp point leading to just where it wants to go. This manuveur cost one move point. Your way cost two.

Tons of nifty things like this you can do with openers and closers.

the rating system provides usefull information, like it did just now...not always about the persone being rated:)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">How about a system that gives people the benefit of the doubt. IE, start everybody's ranking of you at 5, and the ranking will only go down if you are generally annoying or otherwise undesirable.
Best to only count the votes from people who have posted in the Last X days, so dead accounts don't swamp the results.

Going on the bases that people who place SEIV are intelligent.
Joe post a question
Mark answers it
Three people contradict Mark
Does it really matter what their ranks are? I would think that a person capable of playing SEIV would be able to read all of the responses and figure out for themselves which is accurate.
