Huh, Gryphin, don't bring this up. Growltigga and me might be arguing about Bratwurst but US law extension into the EU is quite a big concern over here as Groltigga will confirm I think. You know, in Europe you cannot convict one to pay 10.000.000 bugs for lost hair but many people just appeal to US courts that happily convict companies in Europe and care nothing for the local laws.

Does anyone know of a windows based program that will let me rename multible files in a folder at the same time?
For example:
I copy the Tigga Phong folder to Eries of Gryphin Folder
I want to rename all of the apropriate files to "Eries of Gryphin_xyz_abc_.....
I have tried at the DOS level but you knwo what I ran into.

Gryphin Eries of Gryphin_xyz_abc_.....
in dos would be Gryphin~1

good luck I just high light eries of gryphin then control c then right click ... rename file.... highlight the phong word and control v and repeat over and over to all the files are done.

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

Do not be worried, my troubles are not so bad. They are just transitory and poorly timed.

I asked Tesco about his cousin as I am freshly single. Unlike the good Gyphyn, I have not been entertaining most of the female population, I have been with just one for a few years.

I asked Mac for one of his two jobs as my current one is driving me mad. Not to rake up old issues, but I am supposed to be on leave and am doing lots of overtime instead.

I have to fly back to Canada for a dying relative, which won’t be fun. Perhaps I can swing a promotion and a raise out of it, but then again, I may not have the chutzpah of a certain forum member.

I have not been able to go Online properly for quite a few days, thus the Gold ordering problems.

I asked Tigga for the beer for what should be now obvious reasons.

So, as I say, these are transitory problems and I should be back in regular working service in a while. Heretical as it may seem, I will play some Quake as therapy. Sometimes SEVI requires a bit too much thought and Quake is suitably mindless. Thank you for your concern, I have not seen so many kind comments since Mac injured his wrist in the name of science.

I'll buy the beer. I wish I could help with the dating, and If you want to move to Boston, I could probably help with the job.

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

Tigga,

The obvious reasons I asked you for a beer are that you are physically the closest to me (geographically, not the Shreck resemblance) and that you have already stated that you got a raise. I figure Mrs. GT gets 95% and you can buy me a beer with the other 5%. And I will take a pint, none of your half shandies.

I have been re-thinking my choice of empires. Playing the EEE could be rather entertaining and allow more room for humor than The High Lords of Sahali. And I could cuddle other races to death!

Growltigga March 15th, 2002 12:20 PM

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

Saxon, I would be delighted to drown you in beer if that is what you would like - Mrs GT earns a healthy sum in her own right (being a captain of industry as she keeps on telling me) and therefore she gets 100% of her cash, 75% of mine and I get to pay the mortgage out of the rest.

Probably explains why my backside is hanging out of my suit!

I do not want any element of Growltiggerness to get whomped in this game so I will either play Archdeacon Tiddles of the Cosmic Church of Universal Uncertainty or Fart Thunderquake of the Galactic All-Star Skiffle and Gastric Combo - ber scared, be very scared

Lastly, dont care who you play, you are not cuddling me

Too right it is a problem, explaining to Americans that New York state law is not a global codus is a severe headache - probably explains why English law is more popular for commercial transactions!

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

Um, for what it is worth, I was pointing out that a recent court descision made it clear that US companyes were required to comply with EU laws. In particular where it relates to use of the web. The concern of the US companies is excatly what you point out. They are worried they will soon be required to do things your way.
I am in no posiston to take any position on this save the "Gryphin" one.

Growltigga March 15th, 2002 04:05 PM

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

Well, you are right that way as well but as I recall, isnt compliance with EU standards simply reccomended rather than a requirement, and I thought it was restricted to US companies with a trading presence over this side of the great puddle?

interesting to see if it works as I seem to recall there was some federal guidelines advocating compliance by US companies with the corporate governance reccomendations in our English Cadburey report but that just hit a mass of US ennui

apologies Gryh, was just working round your point rather than hitting it headon

Hip hip hooray, I have developed a cunning plan and have managed to employ a decorator to carry out the chores whilst I get to grips with those wretched Sergetti

Even more hip hip hooray, the decorator does weekends and Grendel has decided to extend her trip by a couple of days until Monday - I think she has found some more people to rip apart and mutilate or failing that, has found a particularily juicy bone!!

Growltigga, send me an e-mail. We will make up for your lack of experience in SEIV with my cunning strategic and tactical ability, your verbal dexterity and obvious charm and good looks and more importantly, if necessary we can set Godzilla on Gryphin and the other sideswipers!

Hip hip hooray for the British - galactic conquerors and lords of the ebon deeps, the Growltigga/Nippy the Magical Duck/Simon the Dancing Hippo and Ethel the Eclectic Echidna Alliance will sweep the spaceways free of all heretics, moustachioed or not

PS Mac, I have deduced what amounts to scientific research in your lexicon - I would point out that that sort of thing is illegal in some countries and under certain more strict religions, will make you rknees turn to water and will also make you go blind

"sideswipers"? If one checks the girth of the anatamy of a Duck, I would venture to say that this would pertain most profusly upon the feathery

Ok, lets say 31 days of a game from the date that the Last person post that they have Gold, (or Latinum)
Is there anyone willing to host the game?

Gryphin, I believe Mephisto or PhoenixD said they would host earlier but I'm not sure. How about the following until everyone has time to play around with Gold.

Everybody how about

Version 1.49 until we all have the Gold

Play until 30 days after the Last post that the Last of us has received his gold Version

Med Size (depending on number of players)
No AI's
all current rules, techs, weapons, ect.
3-5000 racial points or whatever is decided
3 starting planets
all warp points connected
all starting planets same size
Midlife, Spirol or Cluster??
5000 space
5000 units
low or no Castrophic activity
pick your planet type and atmosphere
Med start Tech

what else

GT, I plan on Lasting at least 5 or 6 turns http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

1.49 until 30 days after we all get Gold. Super.

Our brave host (once re-identified) has my vote to cull through the various suggestions for a galaxy and then set it up. If they could then post the results and tell people where to email thier .emp files, we would be in business.

Perhaps I should take Pigs in Space. Miss Piggy could be my fearless leader and Kermit the Frog the Lord of the Fleet. Swedish Chef would be the Minister of Industry and Beaker could lead my research program. Not sure what Gonzo would do.

we need everyone who wants to play to post, also what eveeryone agrees to, or we can just give generalization to Memphisto and let him seet it up.

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

Ok, here is what I need from each of you for setup:

Create a new folder named after your race (please only one word if possible) and put in there all the pictures you want your race to use. By creating a folder for each of your races we can later change picture and AI files as we see fit. Trust me on this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Zip this folder and sent it to me at HeavyLoad@Gmx.de.
Load SE4, setup the race you would like to play and save this race to an emp file. Sent me this emp file, too. Make sure your password is set to “START” so I can access the emp files for setting up the game properly.
Include in your Email the password you want to use during the game. I will put in this one instead of “START” before beginning the game.

That’s it.

All of you now just have to tell me how your galaxy should look like: Ancient, normal, cluster, small, medium, large, random events on/off, tech level at start, planets at start ect..

Saxon March 18th, 2002 12:26 PM

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

Growtigga, in the garage is one of the lst places the cops will look, poor Mrs GT

I'm with GT, not all that computer literate, so the same goes for me, "ditto" as far as set up

Mephisto, since you were one of the beta testers, don't know if these are bugs or what.
Gold Version, Original, no mods, set up mines fields up in the game, one wp had 80+, Piounda, spelling is off, came in and swept the fields. When I later fought the ships and cked the designs, nowhere on them were sweeping componets,
example the 80+ mines took out 1 out of 5 ships, no damage to others.

2nd, when I went and cliked on my planet weapons to split them up, I cliked off some and left rest on, when I fired they all fired at the same target at the same time. Wasn't able to split them up. Bug??

GT, 48hr turn around ok with me,

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

First, greetings to you all. I hope this post finds you all well, able and fit. I also hope that life is treating you kindly and that whatever your problems may be, they are minor and easably solvable.

Secondly, I am completely easy on any option for the game. The only thing is I have only ever played on a 1 planet start up, low tech, low racial points, low alien races, no neutrals, large galaxy and grid/cluster type- if we use anything other than this, please anticipate and be kind on the learning curve.

Thirdly, I am definately up for this game, although I cannot start this week, or maybe not next due to work commitments and the fact that I think I am going insane. It also depends on how long before the police find Mrs GT's body buried under the garage. Can we have a 48 hour turn-turnaround?

Fourthly - I have not ordered Gold yet and dont anticipate being able to for another month or so. I completely endorse the idea that we play on 1.49 until 30 days after the Last team player announces they have gold. I dont think this will be a problem from my point of view as I severely doubt that I will still be alive and in the game within 30 days.

Fifthly, keep in mind everyone that it is not kind to gang up on one inexperienced player, however much you envy him or whatever, and beat them into a pulp.

Sixthly, Mephisto, you must treat me as a complete computer virgin - can I have a step by step guide of HOW I create files, move files over and then send them to you etc

Cheers all

Re: Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill & Phong\'s Head Cantina

Tigga,

Sorry for what ever has put you so out of sorts. It was a bit of a shock to the system seeing you choosing such gentle and polite words. In any case, once they find the body in the garage and you are single and on the run, do come visit. The cops are easy to bribe and I am compiling a data base of eligible women. Just be sure to pick up a bottle or three on the way through duty free. Seriously, I do hope things smooth out for you.

You should not worry about being killed in the first month. Multiplayer games take a long time. Running 48 hour turns, you can expect only 15 turns in the first month and only the most homicidal, and lucky, empire could kill another that fast. No, it will be a much more extended ravaging of your empire, Lasting several months. On the other hand, I only learned you have to turn cloaking on the other day, so do not feel you are alone in the newbie world.

Mac, count me in and two weeks is a good timeframe indeedy. I have no problem wiuth 3000 racial points, what do you use them for?

as for galaxy type, I say large, cluster and the rest is fine although what does medium tech get you?

mac, that all works for me
I like Cluster or Spiral

GT:
Racial Points are applyed when you create your race. You select what you prefer. Each has advantages and some have disadvantages.

Start a new game and "Add New" player.
Click "Edit"
Go through each of the areas.
Email me or post here if you have quesitons.

Medium size galaxy will bring us together earlyier. In 30 days in a large galaxy only a few of us would meet.

Medium Tech so we don't have to "reinvent the wheel"

3 starting planets so we grow and expand faster.
Enjoy
