Re: Time left to play
Ulm is not that far from Ermor. I'm the only thing between them. *Ducks for cover.*
Clarification: I don't really mind all that much and if other people is okay with this then I am too. However, I still believe that it is generally not acceptable for a person to play two different positions in the same game. |
Re: Time left to play
If needed, I could provide my services as a temporary replacement. However, I do not have a reliable TCP/IP access to Dominions. Consequently, someone else would have to upload my turns (the game admin perhaps?), but would not have to actually do the turns themselves.
Having a player able to upload her turns on her own would be much better however. Silly me; I confused this game with the other Newbiegame. I will definitively not be able to do TCP/IP in this game, as evidenced when I took over Beorne's Vanheim (I had to highjack another computer in order to do my turns). |
Re: Time left to play
Panther,
I canceled one weekend (fishing trip) which would have been this weekend. Whats funny, I half canceled it because I didn't want to stale in any turns in my 5 MP games (which is highly recommended not doing if you wish to do anything else). But I will be out next weekend camping. September 25th will be the day I won't be able to take a turn. Krool |

I thought Ermor was pretty washed up? Pickles, did youstumble on yuor conquest? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The Fall, Rise, and Fall of Ermor
I don’t think pickles is done with my peace loving hoard of brain-eating zombies. I think he will lay siege in the next turn.

Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
We have a bit under a week until the Dawg departs. It looks probable that the issue of collusion will be moot once Ermor is eliminated. In the event Ermor is alive, but on life support, I will leave it to the judgment of the community. It was my intent to get instructions from the Dawg and faithfully abide by those instructions. In no event will I transfer goods between the two nations. Realistically, I don't think Ermor will have much of an impact on this game other than to eliminate itself and pickles as contenders. I hope I am wrong of course, but it looks grim. So even if I am an unfaithful or dishonest steward, I don't think my temporary role could change much. But, again, I will not take the Dawg's helm if people are concerned. I don't want to ruin our respective reputations here. Lastly, for what it is worth, the Dawg and I are fiduciary agents in real life and I’d like to think that I could resist temptations in the virtual life too. Please comment. Thanks.

Fiduciary agents = lawyers.
Hee hee. Now... how many of you trust us lawyers? Huh? C'mon ... put 'em up... show us what you got... <turning to The Panther> Hey Engineer-boy! You wanna piece of this? Put 'em up! Or you too busy with your slide rule? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
I decided to solicit non-playing substitutes. I want to avoid any appearance of impropriety.
We'll see if I catch any takers who feel they can manage in my shoes. PASHA |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Oh, but I want to play your game if I die! I will soften the blow to my ego. You have to care and nurture an ego you know. And thanks for blowing the lid on the "fiduciary agent" euphemism. It had such an aura of probity until you yanked back the curtain! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

BS Nuclear and MS electrical. I work at a nuclear weapons research facility, actually. But the nuclear weapons business has been extremely slow since the end of the Cold War. Currently, I have drifted into Program Management for non-proliferation research and engineering efforts, primarily in nuclear radiation detection and characterization.
So, if you kill me in a game, I just might nuke you in return! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif |

Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Really! I write boring motions for a living. And you mint nukes. Ok Mr. Smarty Panther: How do you calculate the area of a disk if it is spinning? (I don't know the answer so you could make just about anything up.)
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Measure the diameter of the disk. Divide by 2 and square the result. Multiply by PI (~3.14159). And that's all she wrote!
Makes no difference if it is spinning or not other than the difficulty in measuring it. It is actually more interesting if the disc has a hole in the middle like a CD. So... A standard CD diameter is 12 cm on the outside, and just under 1.5 cm on the inside. The area of a spinning CD is therefore approximately: (12/2) * (12/2) * PI = 113.1 sq cm MINUS the hole (1.5/2) * (1.5/2) * PI = 1.8 sq cm Equals 111.3 sq cm Which is the answer to the CD question. And no, I am not making this up! |
Spinning Disk
Ah, well it should matter mathematically. If the disk is spinning, the outer edge is moving faster than the inner portion. As a result, the outer edge is heavier and more compressed, and distorting space more. Consequently, the irrational number of pi no longer exists – well it’s no longer useful other than an estimate. I have no standing to engage in a math discussion with you (beyond simple addition) but I think I am right about this.
|
Re: Spinning Disk
I know the Dawg will give me grief about this so I just want to say that the spinning means its not just a classic math problem but a question of relativity - spinning means the disk is no longer flat.

Actually, the effects of the manufacturing tolerances dwarfs (by many orders of magnitude) the nearly infitintesimal area modification caused by the outer stretching in a spinning CD. In fact, the Heisenberg Uncertainity Principle will tell you that the difference is likely not even measurable! Which means is matters not to the engineer, but only the scientist! |
Re: Spinning Disk
Fair enough!

Re: Spinning Disk
Ooops! Looks like Arco and Jotunhiem each wanted to take over the Druid Forest. Hmmmm. Nasty battles. Lot's of blood.
|
Re: Spinning Disk
Hah! That was our army of the cursed, diseased and afflicted. We wanted Arco to kill the giants and let us keep the longbowmen, but instead he killed the longbowmen and left us the giants instead. Grrr.
|
Re: Spinning Disk
Yes, kill the longbows and leave your nasty giants to rot away. Actually I believe that I did try to kill a few Giants with soulslay but they must have pretty good resistance. Anyway its just a drag I had to attack the Indies first, oh well. But this little battle must pale into comparison to the unkillable Ermor and the unbelievably tenacious Mictlan battle. Man I wish I had a scout still in that area it would rock to see exactly what was going on. Anyone have some info they would like to share?
|
Re: Spinning Disk
No information from Ulm's vast spy network.
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Just to let folks know, I am not having much luck finding someone to fill in for me other than Dragonfire. I will keep trying.
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
The death of Ermor has been greatly exagerated. Well they are technically already dead but anyway. Is deccan still unwilling to allow Dragonfire to take over?Maybe Beorne form Vanheim should take over, he is miles from all the empires involved, if that is the issue.
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
If Pasha can't find anyone, I withdraw my objections to having dragonfire sub for Pasha.
I'll just scrap my secret plan for invading Ulm and invade Arco instead. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Just kidding. |
Re: Invading Arco
Ah hah. There is truth in jest Jotun. I know you desire my bountiful wastelands with their mighty 2000-4000 population. They are mine I tell you. I need those 9-20 income provinces to pay for all my scouts. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Seriously though we could always put the game on hold like the other game Pasha is in.

Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
If you don't find any other solution I can substitute for Ulm, my only fear is to screw up a game. I'm not an Ulm expert (I'm no expert at all), but Ulm should be straightforward. I have to be instructed well.

Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Help, connecting on mosehansen Dom2 hangs on "waiting for game info". I've tried with different connections but it doesn't seem to work.
Anyone the same problem? |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Now it goes all well. I reinstalled the game. i don't know if it was my game or perhaps Mosehansen was down.
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
I too am unable to connect.I have tried repeatedly...
Krool |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Under current conditions, I would rather Beorne not substitute for Pasha. I would rather seem the game suspended until his return, or an out of game replacement.
Krool |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
I'm in now, that was weird. Took all day...
Krool |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
I cant connect...
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
It is fine with me, of course, if you guys want to put the game on hold, but that would seem like a major drag for the remaining players.
I personally feel that it is extremely unlikely that Dragonfire could meaningfully exploit his stewartship of ULM. |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
So KroolDeath votes against, preferring to pause the game until the Return Of The Dawg. I'm fine either way. It would be nice to have everybody chime in -- I shouldn't use slang knowing there are non-native English speakers here -- everybody should comment.
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Actually KroolDeath voted against Beorne subbing but it wasn't clear if he opposed dragonfire subbing as well.
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
I would rather play but it is fine with me if you decide to stop the game.
Any solution to keep going is a good one. |

Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Its twelve days which is quite a bit of time, not only to wait to play again but to have someone taking over your nation. I wouldnt like my empire taken over for potentially 15-16 turns, even by someone I liked and trusted. However this is the one multi player game I have going so two weeks hurts quite a lot. Solution: Im going to join another newbie game. So my vote is wait.
|
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
I think we should continue with a sub. Is Dragonfire playing in this game - he is not listed on Mosehansen?
Pickles |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Im ok with Dragonfire, I just don't like Beorne!
Just kidding you Beorne, you know the circumstances! But really, if Dragonfire is not on his Last breath as it originally appeared, that might not be a good idea either. Has no one offered to substitute that is not in-game? This is so strange! Krool |
Re: Dragonfire11 pinch-hitting for the Dawg
Dragonfire is playing as Melkor on the server. And Ermor's situation has improved from before. I no longer expect to be out of the game within a few turns. So that leaves us with a tough question. If I am not mistaken, we need to decide today. We can pause the game, I can cover, or someone else can cover. Can I make a suggestion? Can we have the game's host decide the matter? This will make the determination quick and final, but we should know in advance whether anyone would be totally unhappy with this proposed solution.
|
Dawg solution
Ah! Now I understand! Panther & Grim Knight have tought about a good solution to resolve the PashaDawg issue! I think that to 2 or 3 turns I will be free to substitute him for Ulm without any conflicting interests!
