Well, I pretty much got owned by C'tis but it was fun. Only one province left under seige and Ive gone AI. Good luck to the remaining pretenders!

Hey! Thanks for sticking around to the bitter end. Its really cool to see people do that http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Well, as the game moves on, I find myself less and less inclined to enjoy it. This is a cool map and all, but its just too big for my taste. Im not going to go AI or start staling or anything, but I may try to give my nation away to someone else. I already have way too many provinces, and simply the thought of the size of territory I would need to win due to the really high percentage of VPs needed makes me not want to even try.

RonD February 25th, 2005 11:04 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

We could trade territory - you can have my long, very skinny, sliver of land along the west edge. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

This is only my 3rd game, but I find that I'm able to enjoy myself in my other games even when I do not have time to play "perfect" turns. I just started into a big war on the large Faerun map, even though I'm having a huge time crunch at work. I get in what time I can each turn. If my position in this game gets more complicated I'll have to do the same.

Is the server down?

reverend February 28th, 2005 11:43 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Sorry. Apparently the whole machine went down this morning and I forgot to check the dom2 server.

The game should be up again, I hope no orders were lost. (No reason why, since orders are just fileuploads, so unless the crash happened during transfer, everything should be ok. Doesn't hurt to check though.)

what up abysia

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Not yet another drop out, I hope...

RonD March 7th, 2005 10:58 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I have not been able to connect all day. (I think I have my orders in for this turn, though)

As for Abysia, I haven't noticed him staling any more than just this last turn. Maybe he went away for the weekend.

The_Tauren13 March 8th, 2005 01:00 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Hes staled twice in a row now. I cant connect either.

RonD March 8th, 2005 11:36 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

The game is restarted (thanks, Reverend!). Man and Abysia still need to play.

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Maybe its just me, but it looks like Abysia is taking the express lane all the way to dropoutville...

i think that we cannot lose another human player and abysia is pretty big to go ai. if he stalling then we could stall the game till after the weekend to find a new player? just my opinion but we donot have to many players now and it would be good to wait for him or find a replacement.

The_Tauren13 March 10th, 2005 01:58 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Yeah at this rate it will end up you and me vs a bunch of comps, heh. Maybe he doesnt have a password or something, and we can just give his nation away to someone if he doesnt show up in a couple more days. Or maybe they could use the master password. I dunno. I do agree we should stop the game to prevent him from staling, though, as he is appearantly getting overrun by the Marignon AI.

RonD March 10th, 2005 09:23 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I have sent Abysia notice that I am terminating our NAP, so any replacement player would be facing an imminent invasion (in addition to the trouble he seems to be having from the Marignon AI).

Anyway, I'm OK either way - we can try to find someone willing to take over such a position or we can set him AI in another turn or so.

I, too, am agitated over all the abandoned nations. Unfortunately, in my brief career in dom2 MP that seems to be more the rule than the exception. Maybe I'll stick to Alneyan's PBEM games in the future. It may be that only the more dedicated players are willing to sign up for PBEM (for some reason).

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

i am currently in fools-lament-3 and it is a full house (15players?) and 2 people dropped out. a lot have been wiped out but only two drops that should have been replaced. i donot think this high a percentage dropout is normal. but it is fun anyhow and i am trying a few things out.
i have nowhere to go so maybe i should attack abysia too http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

I'm sorry. I haven't been able to get online the past few days and it looks likely to continue. I'll switch over to computer. Again, sorry to do this.

Just checking:

Game still running? No more glitches so far?

RonD March 22nd, 2005 08:41 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Thanks for checking in. The game is running fine, though Man has quit and should be set AI.

We're down to 3...

reverend March 22nd, 2005 11:06 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

If Man has quit, I'll set him AI later today.

The_Tauren13 March 23rd, 2005 08:16 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Well well well... 3 people and 4 comps. How typical of this community... why do people join games they cant play?

reverend March 24th, 2005 07:10 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Well, it happens I guess. RL interferes, things come up... The only thing I don't quite understand is why people don't announce that they quit properly, then continue to play until a sub is found, or set themselves to AI.

rex_havok March 24th, 2005 11:08 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

seeing that we are now only 3 i was wondering about lifting the no clam/fetish restritions to 10 of each?

The_Tauren13 March 24th, 2005 11:56 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

We could put it up to a vote. I vote keeping them banned. So its all up to rylen I guess.

My general rule on changing rules in mid-game is that everyone must agree, so I think you have the power to veto the change, Tauren.

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

New turn is up. I have played this new turn, but I will be slow at best over the weekend. Hopefully I won't stale, but it will be just once if I do.

I cannot connect this morning - there may be a problem with the server.

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

turn 88 is up
but would anyone mind if we did not host till after saturday and my finials. i can do the turns but...
and turn 90 we are going to try out our armies(turn 89 move turn 90 view the carnage?). hope to try out a few thing. alway get crush at this stage of the "late game" set. concidering this is a 'new' players game hope no-one minds sharing what works and what is just annoying but not very effective. of course that may be post game to avoid tipping off the other players. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

RonD April 11th, 2005 03:39 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I have no problem with waiting until your finals are done. We can ask reverend to set the game to quickhost only until Sunday (I think that's the right term - the effect I mean is the turn won't host until everyone has played, no matter how long it takes).

As for setting an artificial deadline for everyone to go to war - I'm not so keen on that. Though the way this game is going it could be the only way it will ever end.

The_Tauren13 April 11th, 2005 05:32 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I thought we had a 3 turn NAP so we cant actually attack until turn 90, so no carnage until turn 91...

rex_havok April 11th, 2005 07:39 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

sounds good move on 90 and view the carnage on 91, more time the better http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

RonD April 13th, 2005 02:32 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Reverend - could you please turn off forced hosting until Sunday? One of the players is in the midst of exams.

reverend April 13th, 2005 04:13 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Sorry, was a bit swamped with projects for my studies. Server restarted with pure quickhost (hosting as soon as all turns are in). Will switch back to 48 hours quickhost on Monday unless you say otherwise. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

RonD April 13th, 2005 04:28 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Thanks

reverend April 15th, 2005 09:02 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Please note that I will use the restart on Monday to update the server to version 2.16. As with all recent versions, the server will still be compatible with 2.15, but the battlereplays can't be trusted if you play using 2.15.

The_Tauren13 April 17th, 2005 11:07 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Well, this is it. Let the carnage commence.
I hope Im not making a huge mistake here, casting that.

reverend April 18th, 2005 06:58 AM

Well, there was one giant battle (stupid wrathful skies http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif), but most were just skirmishes.

never seen anyone cast it before. it certainly gave you a few extra victories. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Typically it is a AE/SG Ermor only type thing. But I figured with all my undead running around, it could give me a bit of an advantage. Besides, the income annihilation it includes will hopefully hurt you more than me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

the sun is shining, the birds are signing a stack of devils dead(jammed at the gates). few tartarians on both sides dead. but little change overall. our big armies keep missing each other. maybe next round we will be able to reduce overhead.

rex_havok April 23rd, 2005 12:14 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

interesting turn looks like the sleeping dragon has awoken and attacked many v-hexs.

RonD April 23rd, 2005 03:25 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I would hardly call Pythium the "sleeping dragon". I'm a distant 3rd in every category in the score graphs.

That's why I decided 30 turns ago that I'd better swing for the fences, but its looking like I only have warning-track power. I need 6 VPs to win - I had hoped to wait until I could attack 7 or 8 in a single turn but circumstances made me go ahead and attack just the 6. Unfortunately, 1 expeditionary force was lost (stupidly assigned to a province it was totally unsuited to attack) and another never left home (either it bounced off a dome, or I accidentally overwrote its astral travel order).

rex_havok April 23rd, 2005 04:32 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

dome bouncing- considering i have had a few hits i guess i should add more domes that also deals damage http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/skull.gif

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

bad round for me- foolish mistakes due mostly to haste. (like forgeting to equip the wratefull sky guy with a storm staff-cost me a v-hex that i should have easily have defended). that's how it goes. looks like pythium had a great round.

rex_havok April 25th, 2005 12:13 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

i hate to do this but i must withdraw or pause the game for at lest 6 weeks. sorry
A death in the immediate family(my father) and spring seeding. i will contact rev to stall the game till you decide what to do. thank you for the great game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

reverend April 25th, 2005 12:31 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I'll set the server to quickhost only (-> when all turns uploaded), until we can find a replacement or you're back. I don't know the ingame situation, but setting one of three remaining nations to AI would probably be bad. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

RonD April 25th, 2005 01:20 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I'm sorry to hear that, Rex. Take care of whatever you need to - the last thing you need to worry about is a computer game.

Let me know if you need a sub for any other games you're in.
