Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Well I'd rather not restart, I dont see any need for it even if we do upgrade to v2.15.

I dont really want to have a 2 week+ pause either. So I would say we go to 72 hour quickhost. I am SURE everyone will manage to connect once every three days, or at worst, stale a turn! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I did notice there were 3 stales Last turn, including T'ien Ch'i who has yet to make a move in the game (I think).

Rather not restart, either.

I thought the first turn didn't host until everyone submitted.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

About the Pangean treelord. Pangea doesn't start with a treelord. He didn't disappear. You never had one.

ckfnpku December 18th, 2004 10:27 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

After messing with the map file I've figured the command adding the treelord in is erranous. It says [#commander "Treelord"].
The proper command is
[#commander "Dying Treelord"]. Or one of the other treelords.

There is no commander type called Treelord.

Pangaea should start with a Treelord (at least in my original Nasty Edition setup). The only thing I can think of is that either:

a) Soapyfrog has removed it - which would be evil, as it is an important part of Pangaea's arsenal, but he is in charge

b) Zen's mod, which you are using, renames the Treelords such that no match is found on <commander "Treelord"> in the .map file, which would be a nasty incompatibility but easily resolvable for future games be editing the .map you are using

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

B it is.

ckfnpku December 18th, 2004 10:32 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Also, it looks to me like the map is set to victorypoints with this command
#victorycondition 1 7

ckfnpku December 18th, 2004 10:42 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Another thing. With the powerful treelords in this mod, who Pangaea will snatch all of, it might be reasonable to remove one or two sites in the Pangaean lands.

anatoli11 December 18th, 2004 12:58 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

I think we should fix the treelord and restart. The treelord is pangea's extra hero - everyone else gets one.

Tien Chi also staled the first couple of turns as well - it would be a real bother to have him go AI by turn 5 or be so far behind everyone else.

I've only invested 20 minutes into this game so far, so I don't think it would be a big deal, except for SoapyFrogs time as administrator...

Server seems to be hung - tried all the tricks, but couldn't connect.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Up again... server Nagot Gick Fel'd.

Check: Treelord renamed. D'oh! Ok I guess we will have to restart after all. What a pain!

ckfpku: I have overridden the victory conditions.

Ok folks we shall restart! Sorry for the mess. I am afraid I did not save the initial pretender upload, so everyone will have to re-upload pretenders.

Also, please delete your existing game folder.

Are we using 2.15?

Well I remade the pretender with 2.15 at least...

Soapyfrog December 18th, 2004 07:10 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

I am going to upgrade to 2.15 before we start again. Just want to keep an eye on the bug thread, just in case.

Either way whether you make your pretender in 2.15 or 2.14 there should be no issues.

there are reports inthe patch thread that having two exe's doesn't work, so if i upload I won't be able to play my mosehansen games without problems. Will I still be able to play the other games?

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Odd,

I don't know about the two execs thing. I installed a copy of Dom2 and upgraded it to 2.15 in another directory while still keeping a copy of 2.14 on my drive. It seems to be working good. Only takes a few minutes.

If you use shortcuts for your games, just shortcut to the 2.15 directory for the 2.15 games.

ckfnpku December 20th, 2004 05:05 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

My 2.14 exe seems to be working. Says 2.14 at least. I've done a few turns with that exe.

Like 2-3 turns, and before round 10 in those games. So not a lot testing.

Soapyfrog December 20th, 2004 12:06 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

The easiest way is just to copy your dominions2 folder, rename it to "dominions2 2.14" or something, and then run the 2.15 patch on the original folder.

Dom2 doesnt eat up much disk space so its a good option, and then you can be absolutely sure that both your 2.14 and 2.15 games will work correctly.

Ok game started, using v2.15 patch. So beware! I am going to leave it on simple quickhost for the time being unless everyone thinks they will be able to manage a faster schedule over the holidays.

Ok server awaiting Nappa's upload. I'll start it again at about 6:00pm est.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Uploaded correct pretender. Thanks all.

I was experimenting with ideas for a small map game with a lot of players. The idea I was testing was to roll over a neighbor immediately. That Version of pretender/pangaea was Carrion Dragon with undead type scales but with base pangea for the troops. Needless to say that would have been a nightmare on this map.

Ok, Server is relaunched.

3rd times a charm! Set to quickhost, with no time limit for the moment.

Soapyfrog December 22nd, 2004 11:28 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

I took off the quickhost temporarily, as it seems SOMEONE (no names http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif) is still having some problems.

Hopefully this will be resolved by this evening without the need for another *sob* restart! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I cant connect either it says "connection failed"...

Nappa December 22nd, 2004 08:35 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

I can't connect in either of Soapy's games so I'm guessing he's having some server issues.

I didn't know to delete the previous game file after I reloaded the correct pretender. Once I did that I actually had the correct pretender and I was even playing CW http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif So, I believe we are good to go.

My first turn staled even though I reviewed it after the latest restart - Did this happen to anyone else?

Soapyfrog December 23rd, 2004 06:44 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

When we do a restart like that, make sure you delete your game folder beofre you connect again. Otherwise you will have problems...

I can roll the server back to turn 1 if it is a critical problem.

My fault then - I'm willing to continue anyway

Soapyfrog December 23rd, 2004 09:42 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Aye it is cursed. Turns out I staled too. If this is a universal phenomenon, then we could try rolling back?

Soapyfrog December 23rd, 2004 09:47 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Although I am perfectly willing not to rollback... it might be better if we did not.

Anyway, staling the first turn does not seem to me to be the most critcal of events.
