Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Grievous was simply awesome..... I can find no other words to descrive him/it. Especially the dual-lightsaber whirl while he's approaching Kenobi in the Utapau hangar.
I Wanna See More Wookiees! Clone stormtroopers looked very good, they actually changed during the movie. At first, they looked like Clonetroopers with a bit of Stormtrooper in their helmets, at the end they looked like Stormtroopers with a tiny bit of Clonetrooper in their helmets. Also, the ARC-170 pilots' helmets look almost exactly the same as the Rebel fighter pilot helmets. Once again, droids were used for comic relief - not C-3PO though, Battle Droids and Super Battle Droids. Nice change of pace. First line of the Super Battle Droid Handbook: When facing an astromech droid, especially of the R2 series, do NOT attempt to engage - run like hell and get heavy backup. I didn't really see any Droid Tri-Fighters or Utapauan fighters, and I only saw the V-wings at the end, escorting Palpatine's shuttle to the landing pad. Pity. First line of the Buzz Droid Handbook: When landing on a starfighter, check for R2 units first, if you spot one in your vicinity, make sure there is at least two feet distance between you and it. Second line of the Buzz Droid Handbook: When taking care of a starfighter, WATCH OUT for wingmen! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |
Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Shooting droids off an allies spaceship, NOT a good idea.
|
Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Not shooting, simply knockin' 'em off the ruddy wing, like Anakin did in the opening scene when the Buzz Droids landed on Obi-Wan's Jedi Interceptor.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
My personal SW series ratings, on a scale from 1 to 10:
Ep 1: 3 Ep 2: 6 Ep 3: 8 Ep 4: 10 Ep 5: 8 Ep 6: 8 Order of favoritism: 4, 6, 3, 5, 2, 1. Ep 3 has some of the best visual effects in the series, though many of them are (as in Eps 1 and 2) too hyper-active and cluttered. Plenty of action. I greatly appreciated the lack of any Gungans (I didn't see any Jar Jar) and painfully cutsie crap. There were places where the script was pitiful, and though it didn't utterly suck, I think the Anakin's transition to Vader was done very weakly. The whole Padme/Anakin story was much weaker than I expected. I thought there was an obvious opportunity to handle that in a much more dramatic, interesting, and rational way, but oh well. At least it was short enough, since the chance of Lucas, Christensen and what's'er-name pulling a better story off well seems minimal. Good point about Padme's death seeming to contradict Leia's statement in Ep 6 - guess Leia was wrong (more likely, Lucas just being inconsistent for no good reason). PvK |

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Just incase no one has heard, they are developing a TV series for Star Wars. There is even talk about doing a new Trillogy predating Episode one. The new Trilogy would not be called Star Wars, but rather The Force Wars or something simular.
Looks like Lucas is going to keep cashing in and that is a-ok with me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
I just saw Star Wars last night and I must say YODA IS THE MAN!!!! he just kicks so much ***!
Although okay I loved the movie except for the vader "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" scene lol that made me laugh much to the irritation of one of the folks next to me but screw them I stopped laughing when he stopped saying "NOOOOOOOO" |
Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
I wish Lucas would create Episodes VII, VIII, and IX. ISTR that he said he's not going to make them, but I hope that he changes his mind.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Yes, it would have been much better if he had said "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Pademmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!" But "noooooooooooooooooooooo" was kinda lame. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif The only major lame thing in the whole movie, and even Star Wars had at least one lame scene so there. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif All is good in the land of Star Wars.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
My favorite SW movies of the new trilogy (last time I saw the old trilogy was too long ago for me to still have a clear opinion about it):
1. EpIII. Without a doubt. 2. EpII. Well, the scenes with only Obi-Wan at least. It really isn't all that bad when you simply skip the Anakin and Padme/Anakin scenes. Thank God for DVD players http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif 3. EpI. 4. EpII, the scenes with Anakin or Anakin/Padme. I really liked the large-scale combat scenes in EpII. For me, the most interesting and fun aspect of the SW universe is the technology. The Jedi/Sith are not that important IMO. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
That's funny... Sadly, however, I find that as time passes, the less and less I could look at the Star Trek original series and take it seriously. It used to be the best way back when there was nothing else around. That was a long time ago.

Ok as this has turned into Trek music discussion here is something of interest.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Well I finally got to see Star Wars Ep. III...and damn was it ever good.
Have you ever gone to a theater, watched a movie, then when the movie ends you feel as though you are still in the world the movie created? Star Wars created this feeling for me this evening, and it is very rare for me to experience it. The effects were nothing less than awe-inspiring, and the story was deep...and dark. Much darker than any of the other movies. Yet its very darkness makes it appealing in an age of sugar-coated movies where everything turns out well in the end. It's refreshing to say the least when a movie shows that the good guys don't always win, that people never "live happily ever after". It was almost gut-wrenching to experience the betrayal by Skywalker, the slaughter of all those Jedi...the story was so immersive I found myself feeling as though I was there, watching the entire thing first hand, experiencing all the emotions to go along with it...a rare thing indeed. As you can tell, I liked it. A lot. One thing I can't understand though. After Obi Wan sliced off Anakin's legs and arm, why did he just leave him there to combust and die a slow, painful death? He claimed Anakin was like a brother too him, and yet if that was so, why did he not just kill him, bring the end quickly? Just something that didn't totally make sense to me. |
Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Because, following latest trends, the hero must always be responcible for the villians evil.
|
Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Obi-wan said that Anakin was like a brother to him. Could you kill your own brother? It doesn't matter what he has done, it just isn't possible, if he has any time to think about it, to kill Anakin.
When they're fighting, it's all reflex. And after the leap, Obi-wan takes the easy strikes at the legs and arm. But after, he has a moment to stop and think about it, and can't bring himself to kill the man who he has trained for years, since Anakin was a small boy. After watching the movie, I thought of how the following films would have been different if Yoda went after Anakin, while Obi-wan went after Palpatine/Sidious. Or what would have happened if both confronted Palpatine/Sidious first, then confronted Anakin later. But, from the story, it was inevitable that things happened the way they did in the movie, so that is how it is. |

Good point, but he had every reason to believe he would. And, at the end of episode III, he believes Anakin is dead.
|
Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
I thought Obi-Wan's response to Anakin's (really it's Vader) demise was brutal. Just watching the man you loved like a brother just get consumed by flames and not do a thing to stop it, and actually walking away without a backward glance, was almost as bad as some of the things Anakin did when he turned. As Renegade13 stated, this was a very dark movie. I don't know how old he is, but I remember going to see The Empire Strikes Back. That was a dark movie also, but not to the scale of Ep. III.
I had a horrible thought today while I was reading the Cestus Deception. We know Lucas likes to tinker with his movies. What if in a couple of years, he releases the new revised special edition of SW:IV A New Hope? I was thinking of some of the continuity errors that still exists when Luke meets Obi-Was in the desert. Things like how Obi-Wan didn't go by his original name since before Luke was born. Little things like that. What if he digitalizes the movie to where he corrects some of those errors? Can you imagine someone else's voice being used for Obi-wan. Or God forbid, he recasts Ewan McGregor to play the older Obi-Wan so the voices more closely match. BRRRRR!!! I shudder at the thought. |
