Are we ready yet, or still need people to upload? I'm also hoping we start this tonight.

Cainehill June 9th, 2005 10:52 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

4 more pretenders to be uploaded - hopefully the players check here tonight and don't wait until tomorrow. (Tien Ch'i's player took his turn this afternoon, and might not be checking again today. This is why I hate restarting non-blitz games.)

Sorry guys, I live in Russia and it's different time zone, you know. I was trying to sleep while you were uploading pretenders )). So Abysia is uploaded, sorry for the delay ((

Hmm. Think everyone will need the map file, attached to this post, since I gave it a new name so I wouldn't overwrite Sachka's original one.

It is not needed, no matter what you did to it. The .map file only creates the game, and sets the name of the .tga file... which incidentally allows the game creator to do some mischief with it. In KOTH, I used a theater6.map file, and everything worked fine without having it.

If you have changed the name of the .tga file, the players will have to do the same on their end, but that's the only problem I can think of.

Ah, cool. I had thought that the .map file was at least required for the local client to know the neighboring province scheme.

Alneyan June 10th, 2005 11:47 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

The neighbouring provinces seem to be kept in the .trn file themselves (explaining why turn files for turn 1 are already 36 kb big). I guess that's a good thing too, as otherwise a player could alter neighbouring provinces on the local computer... though it could be avoided by using a check of some sorts.

I put you guys back on a 24hr timer. Let the turns flow...

Added server / port information, and nations / players to the first post in the thread for quick easy reference.

And, we're only waiting on some Mainiac to take his turn. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Weird, when I played turn 2 today it seems my orders did not go through from turn 1. I had no new commanders, research, or units:(. Just more gold. Its not a problem though.

Cainehill June 13th, 2005 12:56 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

You haven't been connecting from two separate machines, have you? I know that's bitten some other players in the past : connecting from a second machine, after already doing your orders, wipes out your orders if you then end your turn from the 2nd machine. ( I believe the reason is that the first machine has the orders in its .2h file, which is uploaded; the 2nd machine doesn't have turns entered, so uploads its own, empty, .2h file. )

RibbonBlue June 13th, 2005 02:34 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Nope

Cainehill June 13th, 2005 03:55 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Um - it just hosted, and you staled again. I'm guessing this is possibly your first hosted MP game? After you give your orders for the turn, you need to connect with the host in order for it to have your orders for the turn. When you're connected, you need to hit lower case 'e' in order to end your turn and send those orders. If you quit the game, your turn doesn't get uploaded.

The only other time I've seen this is when a game is restarted and the game name is not changed. But I changed the name of your game every time I restarted it (thus the name Sunken_Restart2) that is being used now. Ribbon Blue, are you sure you are submitted your turns to the server?

RibbonBlue June 13th, 2005 07:51 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

OKay, I feel really stuped, here is what happened.
Connected to my faeren game turn 1,
Gave my orders
Reconnected to my faerun game turn 1 replaced my orders with out giving any new ones.
Connected to turn 2 on my Faerun game and found no units or mages or research, just more gold.
Posted HERE that my turn seemed to not gotten orders through.
Actualy staled on this game for 1 turn, I must have missed the deadline though, but it does not matter since I had already qued my recruiting and was going to do nothing but research last game.
Okay, so I figured it out!
But ya, I feel stuped.

It has come to my attention this game is on 24h.
Sry for staleing and keeping you guys waiting.

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Is there any desire to change this game to something other than 24hr? I simply assumed you would stay at the normal pace until the game starts to slow down a bit.. say turn 25-30

RibbonBlue June 15th, 2005 08:13 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

No, its fine, I just did not see the post saying it was at 24h. Now that I know I am fine with it.

Sorry guys, traveling from Moscow to Nizhny to S-Petersburg so I fear I'll be able to take my turns only once a day next week ((

Cainehill June 19th, 2005 02:12 AM

Two hours to go, and ... Ulm hasn't gone yet.

Shmonk June 19th, 2005 02:31 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

He's probably going to stale. It's RibbonBlue, and he did write something in another stream earlier this evening (The First Step game), so he might have forgotten this game. Or had problems like before. Oh well...

Cainehill June 19th, 2005 03:13 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

That makes at least 6 turns out of 12 that he's staled - I'm going to ask Ironhawk to set Ulm to AI.

Cainehill June 19th, 2005 04:11 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

New turn, and yes Ulm staled, and will hopefully be AI soon.

Dimaz June 19th, 2005 10:52 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Sorry Ironhawk, can you slow the game to 48h for the next week? I'll still try very hard to make turns every day, but it seems that it will be harder than I expected.

RibbonBlue June 19th, 2005 10:53 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

I just seem to keep missing the time. Iv'e been taking what seems like every other turn. Its serverly annoying.

Shmonk June 19th, 2005 11:46 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Argh!! I wake up this morning to find I'm the last one to take my turn. So as soon as it loads, I go to "quit without saving" so I can play it offline, and instead I hit end turn (still drinking my coffee, so not 100% awake. So I basically sat on my hands the last turn and did nothing for that turn. Dagummit!!

And I was about to take over the world, in that one turn no less! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Oh well, new turn is up.

Just so you understand : I'm asking the host to set your nation to AI, meaning that you won't be playing Ulm anyone, or should I say, won't be not playing Ulm and holding the game up.

RibbonBlue June 19th, 2005 04:30 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Yes I understand that and I don't like it.

Shmonk June 19th, 2005 06:50 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Since it seems the game is going to 48h for Dimaz this week, it probably wouldn't hurt to leave RibbonBlue in charge of Ulm. I would think that's better than AI.

Just my 3 1/5 cents.

PashaDawg June 19th, 2005 07:18 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Why do you keep missing turns, Ribbonblue? If we actually switch to 48h quickhost, would you be able to take your turns?

RibbonBlue June 19th, 2005 08:20 PM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

I think I keep missing turns cause of bad timming, which is why I missed half of my last turns.

Cainehill June 20th, 2005 12:10 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

Bad timing? What's so difficult about checking a game once, or even twice, a day? If you can't be bothered to do yours turns when the turns only take 1-5 minutes, even after you were told about the issue, what's to indicate you'll ever show the consideration to the other players to take your turns?

I mean - you had the time to post on the forums on other game threads, while you had a couple hours left in which you could've done your turn. Did you? No. Obviously you were thinking about dominions, and had free time, but you continued to ignore taking your turns.

PashaDawg June 20th, 2005 12:17 AM

Re: Sunken_Treasure : New Shahrivar game on Moseha

I think Ribbonblue is relatively new to playing MP. Yes?

Ribbon: Aren't you able to check the status of the game at least once every 24 hours? I commonly check once in the morning and once at night. Are you sharing your computer with someone else, so that it is difficult for you to check in?
