vacation

Guys

I hope you won't mind (too) much: I am going on a holiday to do some snow boarding next week. So:
- last turn I can take before my vacation will be the coming Friday (9 March) afternoon/early evening.
- first turn I can play after my vacation will be somewhere Sunday 18 March.

This week of course we can still play to the fullest!

Can imagine it's a bit of a bummer (I know the first thing I usually do when I get home is check if my turn is in), but I'm hoping you guys can wait for me, as I'm in a double war which obviously would go quite wrong for me if I staled ;-) Maybe even if I don't stale, which I would like to find out! :-P

So, what do you say?

cupido2 March 5th, 2007 12:37 PM

Re: vacation

I say: Have a nice week snowboarding.

Cor March 5th, 2007 01:54 PM

Re: vacation

RicoRico, you are definitely in no position to stale or even be substituted. We will wait, just be careful out there, dont break your mouse hand.

But who really knows? That is another 5 or so turns, Your empire could be a smoldering ruin by then.( just kidding http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif )

And another thing, You Europeans get Vacation? We have long ago done away with such archaic practices in the USA. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif

RicoRico March 6th, 2007 04:44 PM

Re: vacation

ah yes Vacation indeed!
5 weeks a year is standard. Teachers get more (which I am not). Usually you can choose when you use 'em up.

Turn Delay

One of the players asked for an extension on this turn, so it will be out when i get it, probobly tonight or tomorrow.

Cor March 7th, 2007 02:33 PM

Re: Turn Delay

We are having some difficulty with atlantis's turn file. I dont think I caused this problem, at least I cant imagine how I could have.
Altantis's file is old, from last turn. Only Atlantis is having this problem. In the hosting screen it shows Atlantis as not taken turn yet, evryone else has.

Cor March 7th, 2007 02:49 PM

Re: Turn Delay

Seems like the problem fixed itself. So weird. Turn coming soon.

Cor March 8th, 2007 05:28 PM

Re: Turn Delay

New turn out. Next turn may be delayed,a player is moving, delay should not be very long however, 24 hours or so.

It is getting very exciting in the East. The sun is rarely seen through the clouds of Sauromatian poison tipped arrows. Yet the Children of Fire are unstoppable. They shrug off arrows and blows as if they where feathers.

Arco and their gleaming, golden, ant-warriors march with their heads held high and their hearts full of hope and courage, lead by their immortal god, Pyre.

Wandering bards and merchants tell stories of the imminent collapse of Sauromatia. The number of immigrants have increased in Arcosphale. It seems that the educated are seeking refuge there from their native lands of Sauromatia.

And in the seas strange creatures lick their wounds, given to them as a reminder for trying their luck on dry land. Everything is not calm however...

Re: Turn Delay

The Sauromatian witches ride their beasts, leaving destruction in their wake. Destruction of those who attack the lands that we claimed to be ours. Death will rain upon those who oppose us.
Though the Abysian infantry may hide behind their shields in fear, their protective metals will fail to save them when they meet the great armies marching towards them.
And Pyre, that frenzied bird of fire will soon have his immortality contested!

***
ok guys, I'm off to Austria! See you around the 18th of March...

Cor March 12th, 2007 01:40 PM

I not rushed.

I have been in no hurry to get the turn out because we cant play again until the 18th. Anyway, I am still waiting on Atlantis.

By the way Sauraomatia, All your base are belong to us!
You are on the way to destruction!

I'm back & have played the turn!

Well, there sure is some ganging up on me going on..
Hope some of the more wise leaders recognise the dangers of cutting me down at the benefit of certain other growing nations.. You may need me later after all! :-)

Turn 32 is out. Sorry about the slugish hosting, I had guests come in and had to entertain them.

I am afraid this week may not be much better, I have more guests coming (unexpectedly) from out of town. Normal hosting should pick up by monday.

Re: Turn 34

I only have two turns in, it has not been 24 hours, but I am afraid we have lost some momentum.

Jazzepi,
In my opinion, I was in the worst starting location. Right between land nations, both very capiable of blitz. I would be open to debate, though.

Lucky for me, my neigbors where both nice. I could have been partitioned easier than Poland. Eventually I had to choose sides.

I thought you had it made way over there, alone in the west. Pangaea seemed in a very nice position. I have not been in your shoes, but give me two water nations as neighbors against two land nations anyday.

>I thought you had it made way over there, alone in the west. Pangaea seemed in a very nice position. I have not been in your shoes, but give me two water nations as neighbors against two land nations anyday.<

My problem is that I've been attacked three times on both my nothern and southern fronts. It's nearly impossible for me to advance past my eastern border because of the constant threat of sea invasion. Even though I've been able to repel the attacks, I can't really punish either nation for attacking me. For water nations, there's no threat of retaliation early game, so they can basically raid all they want.

Now, notably I was able to crush all three attacks on both sides 0:) But now there's this stupid SC. I should have given him more afflictions when I had the chance! I'm not very good at dealing with SCs, especially not with pangea.

I also picked a very bad pretender God. I won't even go into that, but I could have used the points elsewhere to help boost my income. Pangea has serious issues with intense army upkeep.

IMHO Sauroman clearly had the best starting position. He had a very tiny coastline, and lots of territory to expand into, plus a border to back his empire into.

I think for this reason wrap around maps are much more realistic and interesting. Being in the corner of the map has huge advantages.

Re: Turn 34

Same holds for Abysia, he is at the edge of the map with lots of territory as well.
Not to say I was not happy with my position, though being at the coast can be a disadvantage as well...
Wrap-around maps are fun indeed, I agree.

I just expanded aggressively and with clear targets, I picked my scales carefully for that goal, which of course came at a certain cost ;-)

cupido2 April 3rd, 2007 06:40 PM

Re: Turn 34

I begin to think these Sauromatians have something against the humble people of Abysia... I remember the words of this warmonger-lord when the war began: "At last." The words fail me...

Re: Turn 34

The Sauromatians DO have something against the Abysians, of course... ;-)
They were getting too strong for their own good, and my armies were bored with all the peace, and they weren't about to backstab their friends... At last, a newly found, strong enemy to FIGHT! ROAR! (or something)

Re: Turn 34

any news about Oceania's file?
Was it corrupt or something?

Cor April 11th, 2007 12:53 PM

New turn # 37? i think

Yes, victory. A new turn has arrived.

Oceania 2h file was old so I could not host without staling him. When Andreas replayed it from the start it worked fine.

jutetrea April 12th, 2007 01:12 AM

Re: New turn # 37? i think

Atlantis here -

Our scouts are curtailed in the SW portion of the map - how goes the battle? Does Sauro have an overwhelming force? Are we all doomed? Poor Pangaea is being beset upon all sides, the water nations are slowly affecting the ways of the land, Abysia's waterfront is quiet - yet the North and Northeast are unknown.

How goes it?

Dedas April 12th, 2007 04:42 AM

Re: New turn # 37? i think

Have faith my brother of the sea. Yes, the land dwellers are all doomed to a certain death by poison arrows, this is probably the truth. But I ask you this - does the arrow fly well in water?

Strength in waves, we shall prevail!

Cor April 12th, 2007 05:08 PM

New turn

New turn is out.

A report from land:

"A mad animal
Man's a mad animal
I'm a million years old, and in my time
I've helped commit a million murders
The earth is spread
The earth is spread thick
with squashed human guts
We few survivors
We few survivors
walk over a quaking bog of corpses... "
-Peter Weiss: "Marat/Sade"

The war is far from over. Sauromatia has not won.

Cor April 14th, 2007 08:51 PM

Re: New turn

Oceania, I dont have your turn. I will host tonight or tommorow, when i get it. Thanks.

Cor April 17th, 2007 12:44 PM

Re: New turn

New turn is out. Turns have been slower recently, partially my fault, but it would help greatly if everyone had their turns in in 24 hours.

I am concerned with making sure we can end the game before July. In July I will be out of town for much of the month. Then I move to Hawaii and start school. I think it would be for the best If i did not host during that period.

I think that it is quite likely that the game will be over before any of this comes to pass, At least that is my hope. If not I will look for someone to take over hosting, perhaps one of you?

Jazzepi April 17th, 2007 12:50 PM

Re: New turn

I'd be fine with just setting myself to AI at that point, I'm pretty much out of this game. This was my first real multiplayer experience and I did about a million things wrong. Now I know better, but I really ham stringed myself quite a bit.

Jazzepi

RicoRico April 17th, 2007 05:09 PM

Re: New turn

I think we will be done way before July..

With the time difference between us though, it is very hard to promise 24 hour turns. For me it is best if turns are hosted and sent around 18:00 (+1 GMT), that gives me all evening. If very much later it will be next day, and sometimes I may have some real life stuff to do off course ;-)

If any real hosting problems occur around July, I could take it over I guess, I'm hosting one other game as well at the moment.

RicoRico April 19th, 2007 03:18 AM

Re: New turn

By the Holy Snake!
That was a worthy battle and a sight to behold. For the first time, Pyre's magic truely wreaked havoc. Not enough to brave the mighty armies of Sauromatia, but I'm sure we'll meet again.

Cor April 19th, 2007 12:30 PM

Re: New turn

Well met worthy foes of Arco! I will likely never again see such a battle in all my days! Surely all the other nations knew our struggle by the shaking of the ground and the heavens falling to earth.

Seriously, i wish you could have all seen this most recent battle, between Sauromatia and Arco. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, It muct have taken 20 mins to watch the whole thing. On my side there were hordes of Fire Elementals and a legion of Ant warriors. With assorted mages. RicoRico's side there were tons of heavy calvary, archers, and a lot of skeleton summoning mages lead by a dreadful vangard of 10 Hydras. The same ten hydras I have been fighting for months without inflicting a single casualty. Today all those Hydras are dead.

Our people rejoice even in our defeat!

I am not smart enough to get screen shots. Can you RicoRico?
