Re: The fall of C\'tis
O.K. I had to do one final RP before I left this game. I would like to thank Velusion for hosting the game and the rest of you for teaching me that I still had much, much, MUCH more to learn about this game. It was fun and I only wish I could have bben more than a speed bump for Oceania, Pangea and Caelum. I'll keep looking in from time to time to see how this game is going. It would be cool if DOM # had a spectator mode so the vanquished players could keep track on the rest of the game. Ah well, maybe in DOM 4. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Thanks. I'm actually not pleased with the last one myself and may edit it soon. It needs more...carnage, methinks. Considering it's a final battle and all http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: The fall of C\'tis
I salute your writing skills. This was a very good piece, and mundane and gritty details of our struggle pale in comparison with your vivid rendition.
See you on another battlefield! |

Re: Radiance Random Nations, Middle Era (Started
I just found out, that the redguard may have shiny stuff, but they arent really smart people. Or would you when you had a lance and a sword, whit which, you could strike atlantians from far without problems still order your horse to kick into their poisonous armor (doh). Lets just say from an unit of 30, 12 died of poisoning, and only 5 are not crippeld, and this is not from enemy actions, but just from letting their horses kick poisoned armour.
btw. who is casting hurricane on my capital for about 10 turns now? |
Re: Radiance Random Nations, Middle Era (Started
Err do you mean Wolven Winter? I know the guy and I can protect you for only 400 gold.

Right Click Bug
I just got the bug where right clicking exits me out of the game. I quit, then played a turn on another MP game I'm subbing in without the problem.
Right clicking on a provence only results in this. I had installed worthy heroes mod so made a copy of the dominions directory and removed the mod. Still no luck. Any hints? |

Boots of youth for trade. Anyone with an old mage they'd like to keep around for awhile should send me an offer. Winter is coming soon.

Machaka
No waiting on messengers, just strategizing. The turn has hosted (and should be an exciting turn).
Fortu, god of Machaka |
Re: Machaka
server is down.
|
Re: Machaka
I think the server just crashed (may again, after reading Wraithlord's post above). I was in the middle of my turn.
Here's hoping my fiendish plans were implemented! |
Re: Machaka
K, when I've been in that situation in the past all my orders were stored on my local machine, and when the server came back up I reconnected expecting to have to redo everything but it uploaded what I had already done fine.
|
Re: Machaka
Here's hoping. I looked at my turn last night (to watch my wicked epic battle), but didn't "End Turn" it as I knew I'd want to sleep on some strategy decisions.
When I checked the turn this morning on the site it said my turn was done (eeek!), so I was putting in actual orders when it crashed. Hopefully, it won't run without my orders. |
Re: Machaka
Currently, if you want to do a turn in part without uploading it to the server, the only method is to connect, load a turn, quit game without saving, then open it locally - through 'play an existing game'. As long as you play locally, you can give orders and save & quit without uploading it to the server. Once you are finally done, end turn/save and quit, go network -> connect to server and your turn gets uploaded.

Re: Machaka
Server needed to be restarted. It should be up.

Hmmm... where to begin. Well we could begin with the proclamation Mictlan made (to all in this era of false gods, I would assume), that went something like - "The Lawgiver has declared that the men of Machaka are not human, having tainted their blood with the ichor of vermin. We have declared holy war blah blah blah" and so on. Yet was the Lawgiver present, or did he send his followers to the slaughter? Of course he wasn't present, he was too busy sleeping. Fortu, Prince of Volcanoes, god of Might, God of THIS World, King of Courage, was prepared (having awakened from his dark sleep long ago), and was already building his empire.
The proclamation was followed by an attack of great numbers, and resistance was immediately encountered, outside the castle walls on open ground. Fire was the theme, on both sides. First Machaka ignited their arrows, hoping to cause major damage to the enemy, then Mictlan does the same. Machaka was not worried, not at this point. But then fire was falling from the sky, appearing over his troops in sporadic fashion, burning spiders and warriors alike. And then it happened again. And again! How much fire could Mictlan throw? A lot, it seems. Machaka was launching bolts of magma at the enemy, and even giant flares were seen hitting the Mictlan troops, all while flaming arrows continued to hit the enemy force. But Machaka's fire was no where near the intensity of Mictlan's. Wolves were called from the forest edges to attack the enemy, hoping to distract and confuse, and even lightning was thrown into the troops, fired from a great bow wielded by a firbolg. But numbers appeared to be the answer to this battle - 600+ troops against 400+ troops. In the end Machaka did not have the numbers, and retreated into the country side (leaving the defenders in the castle to watch for sappers and prepare for a siege). But Fortu is not worried, he has faith in his followers. Besides, the war has just begun. And he is pissed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif ===== Ok, that was my quick attempt at a battle replay. Kinda hard to do when you're more of a reader and less of a writer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif - Shmonk |
Re: Machaka
Considering that Fortu is hiding in province 203, I wouldn't be so bold.

Re: Machaka
Our scouts report a truly epic battle to our south. The forces of the spider riders march, drawn up in front of their false god to relieve the siege of their capital. A much larger Mictlan host encamped there marshals to meet them, though over half their number are all but naked slaves. But what is this? Apparently the large flock of turkeys accompanying Mictlan are not food stock, but sorcerers! They quickly form a huge communion while the fire priests enchant the archers with fire aether.
The initial volley of burning arrows inflict significant casualties in the weak, human host from Matchaka their feeble bodies charring from the mild fire. Nonplussed, the spider riders respond in kind and clouds of spinning blades fell among the loin cloth clad Mictlans as they also felt the sting of weak flesh being cleansed by the flame of burning arrows. The huge, terrible spiders charged forward towards ranks of trembling slaves. As the heavily blessed jaguar warriors ran towards their ominous jaws, the turkey communion finished its power ups, and the fire priests unleashed a pleasing warmth from the skies charring many a spider. The spiders fell upon the Mictlan infantry with such terrible hunger that even the mighty Jaguar Warriors were seen to tremble as molten rocks rained down among the slaves. This was short lived however as the turkey communion began to rain much, much larger burning rocks from the heavens all among the Matchaka sorcerers, sending bodies flying hundreds of feet into the air. Boulder after boulder fell from the sky and rivers of fire poured down as unbelievable punishment was meted out to the spider riders. It seemed that this would be a fairly one sided battle as the Matchaka forces quickly dwindled. Then Fortu finished his battle enchantments and strode forward. The mighty Scorpion King bellowed his fury and charged down the battlefield. Not a mortal present did not tremble as this terrifying godling barreled into the fray, surrounded by a burning ring and regenerating any wound to make it through his thick carapace. He drove into the Mictlan forces, heedless of the giant rocks falling from the sky, any one of which would have squished even his mighty form like the half bug he was. The Mictlan slaves had no stomach for this nightmare turned flesh and broke, leaving naught but archers between this burning manifestation of vengeance and the Mictlan mages who were now mostly too exhausted to cast spells. Then, what is this? Tonatiuh, the prophet of Mictlan invoked a mighty Word of Power and all present watched in amazement as a star from the sky slowly grew into a burning, astral boulder twenty feet in diameter that drove straight from heaven into the paralyzed Fortus chest, destroying all trace of him. Seeing the Matchaka army devastated, Baalz The Everburning, voice of the true god has decreed the time of the spider riders at an end, and hereby withdraws acknowledgment of them as a nation. Our forces move to annex the now unclaimed territories to our south. Mictlan has earned the right to spoils of war, and may claim what territories they may, but we advise them to respect the border we will shortly share. We hereby cede the underwater provinces formerly belonging to Matchaka to our starspawn neighbors in a gesture of goodwill, we will respect our shores as a boundary between our peoples that we may live in peace. So speaks Baalz, The Everburning |

Stale turn?
How come I had a stale turn?
There was 38 hrs left to host when I went bed last night, so I was going to do my turn in the morning. This was when I checked the server. I wake up to find I had a stale turn. So what clock are we working too? |
Re: Stale turn?
The server restarted (was down for about 5 min) yesterday due to a power failure, hence restarting the clock. I didn't notice it until I got back from work tonight myself and saw my emails asking me to host and read the forum.
It was actually about 56 hours between hosts. Not sure what the precedence is but I just forced the turn rather than have it go into the next day. If most people think I shouldn't have done that I can revert back. I was caught between people waiting the turn to host on schedule and the chance someone didn't realize 48 hours were almost up http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I really wish there was a way to for the server to remember when the last hosting occurred, rather than time it to when the server starts. If I do happen to find out prior and change the timer I have to make sure and be around after it hosts to set the timer back or it might go too early... Since we are at war now as penance I'll not move my armies this turn if we don't revert... I know it isn't he same as a stale... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif |

I knew the game had reset, I generally view this as a nice little break. Can we have a definite rule on this please? Is the game ran to the server clock (like every other game I am in) or the thread clock? Then there's no misunderstanding in the future. I assume which ever you deciede will apply to tempest which I am in as well and has 2 clocks. |
Re: Stale turn?
Meglobob, check by connecting to the server. Status page showed my as having missed the turn for some strange reason, yet everything was OK when I connected.

Re: Stale turn?
Well, that's pretty crappy. Everyone should know that Manuk (Arcoscephale in this game) does not honor his treaties. After agreeing to a three turn notification NAP he has attacked without warning. Giving him the benefit of the doubt I asked him if he had forgotten we had the agreement and his response was:
"Yeah, I forgot, sorry. But you didn't answer my request either. So I will stop my advance for 1 more turn but that's it." FWIW, his request was that I stop my already in progress attack on Machaka. I hate to be the kind of guy who spreads dirt on somebody else, but nobody should negotiate with Manuk in good faith. He has used our NAP to build up a commanding research lead then attacked as soon as I committed my troops elsewhere. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif |
Interesting
Well, I'm happy about this. Isn't a multi-front war fun? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Now that you are being attacked by multiple nations, maybe others will see you as easy pickings and join in, like you promoted to all others against me.
Let's see some cold weather hit Abysia, the peaceful nations of the world should rise up and destroy the evil demonbreds!! Down with their flying leaders, let their flames be extinguised forever! Now, back to my war against Mictlan. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif |
Re: Interesting
I have no problem if you want to say anything about me. But at the start you were struggling hard for expansion and I could attack you at anytime then, peace was good for you then.
Attacking Machaka on his back is of vultures. you have no other war so this war will be fair. |
Re: Interesting
Hey man, I just think it's crappy to sign a NAP then break your word. It's not a matter of attacking me at an inconvenient time, its a matter of going back on your word...what's the point of signing the treaty? Had I realized you were not a man of your word and I needed to defend my border with you I would have deployed my troops differently. You took advantage of the fact that I trusted what you promised - that I would have a few turns to prepare for an attack from you.
|
Re: Interesting
Isn't that an excellent reason to break a treaty? You kinda answered your own question there. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif=

Re: Interesting
Usually in most of these sorts of games I play you have to backstab someone at one at some point... though IMHO I would only risk it to completely clinch a victory or as a desperate move because you are about to be eliminated.
You have to take into account the other player might hold a grudge and retaliate unreasonably and your reputation will get soiled if you do it for anything other than to finish off the game. Of course if Manuk goes on to win the game and avoids being "marked" in future games he probably made the right move... IMHO that is. |

Re: Interesting
Or you could just be a man about it and admit that the reason Atlantis, Agartha, et al, are carving up Ermor like an apple pie right now is because you played poorly.
There is no rule in the rule book against breaking a treaty. You got pwned, dude. I'm not saying that what you say above isn't true. It mostly is. But a master wargamer does not whine about his fate, even when he gets back-stabbed. There is certainly no need for you to become the neighborhood finger-ponter/tattle-teller about it. Reputations will become known over time whether or not you put in extra effort. Take it as a sign of respect, Frank. They do you like that because they know they have to. Chalk it up in the loss column and move on. We all play by the same rule book. It's all there in black and white. Drawing attention to one's losses is not necessarily the most glorious method of promoting one's reputation. |
Re: Interesting
Baalz The Everburning has called for a cleansing against the oathbreakers. They shall be eliminated down to the last squalling child, their towns razed, their fields salted, and their libraries burned. There shall be naught but waste where once a nation stood. We offer the following to all we are currently engaged in hostilities with - a one sided three turn non aggression agreement. We will not move on anyone else's territories until at least three turns after the oathbreakers have been eliminated so long as our borders are respected. This is a one time offer to those we currently war with, and the only thing necessary to secure it is to not attack us for as many turns as you wish to maintain it. Take this opportunity to build up your armies, or war on other fronts, or ignore it and continue to attack the nation of Abyssia.
Furthermore, for any and all who loath oathbreakers as I do, or to those who have a mercenary's heart I proclaim that I will pay well for any offensive rituals that are rained down on the people of two faces. Our nation is rich in magic gems and forging abilities, and we will make it worth the while of any who will aid us in rebuking those who have no honor. Let the worms yearn for the cooler fires of the hell their souls will soon be cast into. |

I think its better if you simply accuse the nation of being a backstabber NOT a player. Otherwise you risk the thread being closed by forum moderators should it get out of hand. Remember people this is a GAME, not an excuse for personal attacks on people. |
