Re: Game: Star Fall (open)

Hey all - I'm ready to call it a victory for Ermor. I was gone this weekend and missed a turn, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway. He is flame attacking my leaders every turn, and they are my only hope. His size is now beyond stopping. I can't really muster a big offensive. Let me know your thoughts.

Hi all. Now that the world has darkened, I bow before the undead. Nice job, Meglobob. I have learned the key lesson, which is that next time I play Late Age, I will devote all my energy to killing Ermor early.

Yea, I agree. I have played a few LA games now and it really is best to kill Ermor and then Ryleh. Those 2 nations can dominate the LA era.

Duuh, it's always been like that! First, you destroy Ashen Empire Ermor. Then and only then you play the game with yon worthy adversaries. Although in D3 late age I guess you could say both Ermor and R'lyeh need to be taken care of!

The army of the nation of Pangaea simply refuses toadmit defeat. And they make a stand and prepare to push back the armies of Ermor. But then the armies of man shoot them in the back.

The mad ones of R'lyeh scatter in confusion with the loss of our god, leaving the field to Ermor.

That is to say, good game, Meglobob!

Midgard surrenders. Nicely done, Meglobob.

I'm actually surrendering to Man, since they took half my nation. But I understand that they are your Underlings, Ermor http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: R\'lyeh over and out

Thanks everyone and thanks for the game.

I had a really good starting position up in the north, northeast which meant I could not be surrounded early on. If I had been further south it may have been a very different game.

Man going AI so early helped me out alot as well. The AI's attacks on Ryleh, Pangaea and Midgard (I assume) where just like having an ally in the west.

Also Abysia and Jomon going to war with each another well I defeated Ulm/Marignon helped.

A good bit of luck but you also after have the skill to take advantage of it... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Does this mean your playing on Pangaea or are you accepting your fate as a zombie?

Re: R\'lyeh over and out

That was my way of saying that the situation was hopeless.

Pangaea was going to become zombies anyway, even without Ermor's help. They were about 50 nature gems away from casting Carrion Woods. (which included an enpowerment.) But Pangaea asks Ermor if they can keep their current stylish green zombie look, instead of what they find the boring Ermor grey.

No problem...as long as you submit to the will of the one true god:-

Death Becomes You, Mistress of Magic, She who is Crowned with Wisdom, the Terror of the Tomb, the Evil Princess.

Looks like this game is over then. Thanks to everyone for playing and Zach for hosting.

*cough*

Abysia attacked me the turn after agreeing to a 3 turn NAP without any notice (obviously). Seeing Emor growing larger and larger on our border, I offered him a second chance to ally with me against him as I knew even if I defeated Abysia I would have no chance against Emor as we would both be weakened. Again he agreed, and then 2 turns later betrayed that agreement.

Then later he asked if I wished to join in an alliance against Emor, but by that time I was already setting myself to AI so that I could sub for Lingchin.

I, for one, will never trust Hako again. He did a great job of throwing the game to Meglobob.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a 3 turn NAP with him and he attacked me without warning as well.

Perhaps he was roleplaying a evil backstabbing Abysia or perhaps just plain forgetful?!?

I did put alot of effort (bribery) into securing a NAP with Abysia early on and I remember giving you some skull mentors for peace. Ermor is vulnerable early on, so you need to get a ally or 2 or just really make sure they don't attck you until your ready to take on the world.

We really needed some earlier attacks on Ermor. I would have attacked him sooner, but I wasn't anywhere near him until he got enormous. I think Abyssia was probably the best person to do this, especially since fire and undead don't mix well.

Abyssia's throwing of the game was completed when his stolen security key stopped working with the 3.10 patch, and so he went AI right when we were all ganging up on Ermor. Of course, it didn't help that Man AI, utterly unaware of Ermor, reduced everyone's ability to fight Ermor.

But give credit where credit is due. Meglobob kicked our butts. Nice work!

It was fun being completely isolated and alone in the fight against Ermor. I expected Abysia to be the first one to attack him, but nah, it was Ulm (who died)... Then there was Jomon (Jazzepi) who got beaten to a pulp who got me to help him, and when I got some of the aggro off him... Why didn't you halp my ***, Jazzepi?-p

Was it because Abysia attacked you or something?

And the moment I saw Meglo, I knew he was gonna win. No one believed me ("west will stop him!11!1"), BUT I GOT THE LAST LAUGH.

HA HA HA.

Our ability to gang up on Ermor was also limited when Jomon and Arco went AI early.

Re: Last message from Tien Chi

It would have been nice to go one more turn (though I was totally unable to with my economy ruined by the Utterdark).
I was just about to cast Solar Brilliance when I engaged one of his big armies. I've never seen that spell in action.

Re: Last message from Tien Chi

Besides everything you all know about from the graphs/globals, I also had:-

All 3 air queens.
2 fire Kings.
2 water queens.
1 earth king.
King of Banefires.
4 fully healed, gift of reasoned tartarians.
Alot of unique artifacts, including the chalice, sceptre of dark regency.
I was going to cast Wrath of God in 2 turns as well.

All in all it was a little sick...how powerful I was... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Last message from Tien Chi

I haven't played many late age games, but it seems like either Ermor gets killed early or Ermor gets out of control. Especially with Utterdark available, Ermor is going to devastate everyone if he makes it to late game. I guess that is an interesting game dynamic, but I don't know. Or maybe I'm just not that up on late age.

It's been like that since Dominions 1 with Ashen Empire Ermor. First, you kill Ermor. Then, you play the game with the rest of the folks. There's nothing in between. Never has been, and never will be. ;p

I agree.

But also now even if you eliminate Ermor, you then have R'lyeh to deal with, for a more balanced LA game its probably best to exclude both nations.

Otherwise, your just repeating the same scenario over and over again. Its fun a couple of times but then it gets boring and there are some really good fun nations to play in LA.

Re: Last message from Tien Chi

why is LA R'lyeh a similar problem? excuse my ignorance http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Lingchih October 28th, 2007 02:16 AM

Re: Last message from Tien Chi

Well, LA R'lyeh has a Dominion that causes everyone in it to go mad, so that in itself makes no one want to invade R'lyeh. They also recruit chaff and Prophets without any effort on their part... they just pop up. And they also have access to the base R'lyeh mages... nasty folks. And since no one else is in the water in Late Age, they command quite a huge province base early.

I did everything I could to try to turn Hako (Abysia) to fight Emor, but he was, for lack of a better word, stupid and continued to attack me. We would have been fine, but I had to defend myself, which gave him huge losses, and once he research fire arrows, gave me huge losses.

Re: Last message from Tien Chi

Yeah I vote hako biggest loser in this game. Even when it became massively obvious it was time to attack Ermor, hako insisted on spending about 6 turns conquering by-then AI Jomon rather than attacking Ermor. During this time his big army sat around sieging Jomon's capital while Ermor doubled in size. Then hako promptly went AI himself because he had a stolen key code that stopped working with 3.10. I think he attacked Ermor maybe once between wasting his time conquering Jomon and going AI. And all this was after he apparently refused to cooperate with the northern folks who were trying to stop Ermor early.
