Sweet Work Zepath - A scenario like this would definitely bring more players to Dom3.

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

There's already been a warhammer chaos nation mod started up, by,... someone beginning with V. I forget the exact name. I'm bad with names.

I've actually started work on Chaos Dwarfs as well as Empire and Dogs of War, but my plate is full and right now I'm working very slowly. I'll see what I can get done for Empire this weekend.

I am looking forward to your adventure map as well. Good work!

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

Panpiper: I'm glad you're so interested in the adventure map! With regards to the Chaos Wastes and the actual vortices themselves, rest assured they will be in no way wanting for demonic/horrific presences. Taking the vortex provinces will be incredibly difficult but will net great rewards in magic items, magic sites, and daemonic recruitables. However, at the present time I do not intend to incorporate a supplementary creature/item mod with the adventure map. It will be built with the stock library of creatures from Dominions 3. While not absolutely perfect representations of the Warhammer races, the stock Dom3 creatures are so varied that I am confident I can recreate the feel of the Warhammer fiction without a supplementary mod.

Getting the mutations and oddities of Chaos just right in Dominions will not be simple. Although I'm certain we could achieve a decent approximation. I'd highly encourage you to try your hand at a Beasts of Chaos nation mod or perhaps get on board with the Hordes of Chaos nation mod already in production. If you haven't discovered them yet, I actually designed four pretender gods based on the Chaos gods. They are included in my Nova Deus mod http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...art=1&vc=1 Feel free to use them as the foundation for your own Chaos nation mod.

Aezeal: Thanks very much for the offer to help! I'd like to see how you'd use the satyrs/minotaurs/panii to represent beastmen. If you want to write up a few mid-level indy provinces using those sorts of creatures with the Beasts of Chaos in mind, that would be great. As well, try your hand at any of the dwarf/skaven cave provinces. I'm still not sure how to represent them. Vaetti are my backup cave-dwellers, but I'd prefer to not populate all the Underempire with goblinoids.

I'll keep final editorial privileges, but would love to have your help.

Wokeye: Thank you, I sure hope it does!

Sombre: I'm still very psyched for your Empire mod(s). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gifAll of your work so far has been exemplary.

Xietor: Thanks!

I might just try a Beasts of Chaos mod, and see how it works. Huzzah for my first try at modding! I might ask for a lot opinions and help with balancing though.

DigitalSin, I may still have some sprites laying around from more than a year ago when I was stewing on the idea of a Beasts of Chaos-themed nation mod. It's not a complete set of sprites by any means, but if you're interested, I could make those available.

Edit: On that note, here are the sprites. Not all are beastmen oriented, but they do all come from Chaotic inspiration. Attached is a compressed file containing all of them in the appropriate sizes. Anyone interested in using these may do so however they wish.

I've made overtures to Valandil both in a post to his Warhammer Chaos thread and in a PM. Hopefully he will see them and respond. I would be interested most certainly in 'hacking' what he has done so far to get it into playable form (using stock graphics where necessary). It would then remain for someone else to go in and balance things if I have been excessive (as I am want to be). Valandil has not made a post to his thread in a month and a half so he may have lost interest. If so, I would certainly like to take it the rest of the way, though it may stay stuck with stock graphics. On the other hand, it is his work and if he wants me to do something less, that's fine too.

Zepath see what you can do with this attachment

if you need more.. just give a lil detail on what sort of province it should be and I'll look into it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

If you don't like it.. I'm ok too.

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

As a general update, the adventure mod is still coming along. I'm working on creating the very powerful, very valuable indy provinces (Khemri, Marienburg, Eataine, etc.) first and will then go through and populate the lands inbetween with less challenging but fiction-appropriate stuff. In general, I haven't restricted my work to a particular time period in the Warhammer world. Thus you'll be able to fight Kurt Helborg (captain of the Reiksgard) and Louen Leoncoeur (King of Bretonnia) as well as Nagash and Neferata (the originators of the Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts respectively).

Panpiper: Hopefully Valandil hasn't gone completely quiet. In the end, there's nothing saying you can't produce an alternative Hordes of Chaos nation if he's not interested or can't reply.

DigitalSin: No problem at all. If it would be more helpful I still have the miscellaneous chunks of pixel art that was generated while building those sprites. I've also got some preliminary mod commands I was going to use for those creatures. Just ask and I'll PM 'em to you.

Aezeal: Thanks again! I will check your provinces out tomorrow after I return from a short trip and we can talk about more.

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

Edit: An aborted attempt at graphics hacking. It didn't take. I'll stick with numbers hacking for the time being.

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

If I were you I would seriously consider editing that post away, because that is not a topic we can discuss and still use WH mods. The question left unasked in this case is far safer and better for all concerned.

zepath November 11th, 2007 09:45 PM

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

Panpiper: It's great that you're learning the ropes of pixel artistry. I've always heard good things about GIMP although I don't use it myself. Regarding your sprite, its size seems reasonable for something as large and powerful as a greater daemon. Nevertheless, you are right to worry about using GW images in that way and Sombre is correct. We are better off not getting into uncertain legal territory in that way. We're much safer simply drawing -inspiration- from GW imagery and fiction and creating our own materials from scratch however true-to-form they may end up being. I too would recommend removing the legal vocabulary from your above post and probably taking that attachment down just in case.

zepath November 13th, 2007 02:19 AM

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

For those who are watching, my work on the adventure version continues. It is no quick task altering the better part of 215 provinces, but much progress is being made. I am considering releasing the adventure map in two degrees of difficulty by simply doubling the number of defenders for extra-challenging play in a harder version. This seems appropriate as the independent province strength setting has no effect on hard-coded indy defenders like those you will find throughout the adventure map.

Panpiper November 15th, 2007 03:20 PM

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

I was just too impatient to play Chaos it would seem and spent twelve hours putting together my own take on a chaos race mod. It is not complete, at the moment missing all summoned demon types and the requisite spells (I hope to get to this). Also, most of the graphics are lifted from native, though the majority are reasonably appropriate. I expect Valandil will ultimately put together something rather different and his mod will supplant this one. This is meant to help Valandil with inspiration and maybe he can copy/paste parts of it. That plus it gives us something to play with in the mean time while he works on finishing his mod.

Check out Chaos Undivided in Mod thread- WH hordes of chaos.

Got to download the latest versions of skaven, tombkings etc.

All those sweet memories. Pity my darkelves live outside the known world http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I'll do you the entire Dark Elf nation with all the heroes and a bunch of new spells if you'll agree to a bunch of new mod commands and a fix on the modding limits for the next patch. Possibly by bribing JK with cake, I leave that part up to you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Panpiper, I saw your work on the Chaos Undivided nation in the Hordes of Chaos thread yesterday. Awesome work thus far! Valandil and yourself seem to be developing a productive rapport as well that is good to see.

Thanks Kristoffer! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Praise from as talented a creator as yourself means quite a lot. At some point in the future I hope to include Naggaroth in a broader map of the Warhammer World. There is hope yet for an authentic Dark Elven game. In the meanwhile, one could always start them out in the watchtower province in the corner of the map or perhaps on Ulthuan somewhere... That is, provided a Dark Elf nation mod. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

How goes the adventure map Zepath? I'm doing all this work on the Chaos Undivided mod just so I can play it with your adventure map. (Ok, maybe not 'just' for that...)

Do you need me to mail you extra coffee supply?

zepath November 22nd, 2007 02:39 AM

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

Panpiper, who could turn down free coffee in the mail?! The adventure map is still unfinished and is likely to remain so for at least another week. I am taking off for the Thanksgiving holiday and anticipate a rather robust work week following. So, I should be able to work it into a good final draft by next weekend with the hopes of a release around then.

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

Ah. Excellent news Zepath. The Chaos Undivided mod aught to be fully functional and relatively balanced by then. I don't know if all the graphics will be done, I expect at least a few of the demons will be placeholders still at that point. But the hope of it keeps me working. ;-)

Hi Zepath. I don't mean to pressure you (yes I do) but how's the adventure version of the map doing? I realize you may be tempted to wait to see what the new patch will bring, but that could yet be weeks away, and then it will be yet more weeks while you play and fiddle with the new options. 'Please' don't make us wait that long. :-)

Re: World of Warhammer - Released!

I just finished playing the new Hinnom nation on this map and kept thinking how much fun it would be on an adventure version of the map. There are only two other maps that I know of that come close to an adventure version of this map - Antilarium and Faerun. Having a third, especially on a map as beautiful as this one would be amazing.

The replay value is what makes me (and I'am sure others also) come back to maps with tough and unique indy defenders. The dominions community needs more maps done that way. I'am glad I played on this map as it appears this awsome project needed a well deserved bump!!!
