Is game down? I cannot connect. I mean, I get some packets, but screen stays at 'Waiting for game info'.

archaeolept November 15th, 2007 02:38 PM

Re: Game: Dawn of War

that's a bug sometimes... just try again a few times - i had that the first attempt, but then got in no problem.

when that starts happening it is best to restart the game instance on the server.

and email zach, as he usually doesn't ever check the forum it would seem

Thanks! Now I feel bad for holding game for everyone. It took 7 times, but allowed me in. And I submitted a half made turn :-(

Re: Game: Dawn of War

Hi, just browsing, and saw you had troubles ...

A workaround for the "Waiting for game info" bug is:

- Play in windowed mode.

- Connect to the server and get "Waiting for game info".

- Do not close the window!

- Start a new instance of the game, connecting to the server again, with the original window open.

It's very tough to actually get a turn in, in this game. I did finally manage (with VFB's post for instruction) to do my turn. I was able to log in and see that I got my *** kicked. Still, that's better than staling, and seeing my *** kicked and not being able to do anything about it.

yah i'm having to use the workaround each time... game process needs to be restarted, at least.

Upset, kind of like if someone sent you a NAP offer while stacking up troops next to your capital, when stacking them up served no conceivable purpose but the obvious one of intimidation?

Zach! Please fix the freaking game! Restart it or something. It's a total pain in the *** trying to get a turn in.

did you try the "trick" above, of opening a second windowed version? also, zach doesn't check the forums much - you could email him. i sent him a message ingame, this turn.

This started happening in the other game I was in on this server as well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Port 8097. We finally abandoned that game.

Yes, I can do the "trick", it's just a pain. I usually don't play in windowed mode.

Lingchih....once you have logged in successfully you can go back to fullscreen to play the game. That's what I do. I hate windowed mode. Just hafta use it to log on, then set it back to fullscreen before you play the game.

How do you leave windowed mode after you already have the game open in a window?

archaeolept November 17th, 2007 01:54 PM

Re: Fix the game please

well, you can make it a fullscreen window...

or you can have two different shortcuts, the first with the -windowed tag, and the second w/out...

edit: 53 minutes and c'tis just d/led the turn... fly like the wind, death lizards, fly, fly!

Re: Fix the game please

heh... pan attacked me, after never replying to my attempts to come to some polite agreement, and forced me to run away the turn I finally broke through the Aby capital walls... they occupied it immediately, while I had to bide my time.

but then this last turn he raided my supply line w/ his POD... defense 34 and 2 eye shields... only problem is all that left him with was a "useless kick -5 damage". So he was very slowly kicking my poor blind eagle warriors and a few mundane troops to death... finally they break, he's chasing them down the field, will the last few escape?... Turn limit reached, he auto-routs, flys off to his doom http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

worst part is, is that my commanders had already escaped, so I didn't get to scam any of his kit ;-)

HAAHAHAHA!!! M'Lord, Jotunheim, Emperor of the giants. While I consider both you and Ulm friends, I did find your post most humorous. On the other hand. Man has taken lands that have ever belonged to Agartha. Let all the world know that Agartha will have what is rightfully hers, and deal punishment to all those who would deal treacherously with Agartha.

Ive never played Rlyeh but it seems you should take magic scales to make your mind blasts more effective.

Yes, I did take magic scales. I have read the R'yleh faq. I did forget to take cold, which probably hurt me a lot. Ahh well, it's immaterial now... I'll be dead in 3-4 turns. Chalk it up to experience I guess.

Hmmm.... How much magic scale did you take? Because in all your domain I do not read any magic scales. Just 1 order and 1 productivity.

First blood went to Ulm!

The incredible, fearsome horde of 40 Jotunheimian Shamblers that had Tag Klatu shaking in his shoes for so long tried a raid of Ulms vital, precious sea zone and were driven off by the flimsy, vulnerable 120+ defenders!

Yes. Ulm's territory is still secure. For now. He'd best watch his borders carefully, though. I saw some dangerous looking arctic foxes in some bushes. They probably work for the giants!

Nice try with the propaganda, Argatha. You ignored our 3 turn NAP and attacked me with no provocation. Too bad my knights of Avalon squashed your pathetic elephant army at your second attack point. While your siege at my swamp fort in the winter time was ill advised as well. You lost your entire army trying to take it while the forces of man lost...1. Next time try not to fight your cold blooded Argathanians in a swamp during the winter. Or your 30+ hit point guys will just tire and lose to my 1hp bugs again.

So not only is Folket dishonorable and dishonest, but he's also a cheating Sack of S**t. Did he really think that attacking my capital with 4 spies in one turn to burn up my gems was a valid tactic?

It's not bad enough that he claims to want a NAP while trying to goad me into war (massively insulting my intelligence in the process), but he also has to cheat?

Will you be proud of a victory, Folket? If you win, will you be able to look in the mirror and say "I won fair and square because I was the better player."? You must be about twelve years old.

Right. That will be enough. This sort of language has no place on the forum and the personal attacks and accusations against a fellow forumer rather than lambasting his nation in the context of the game are totally unacceptable. If you're unable to conduct yourself appropriately on the forum, then keep your mouth shut. I will not bother to issue a second warning. Since I don't actually have direct mod powers here, any further lapses brought to my attention will involve incantations known to summon beings called Administrators, who generally do not like being disturbed for trivial reasons.

Is that clear?

Ubercat November 28th, 2007 01:34 PM

Re: Fix the game please

"cheating" involves hacking the client or server; or going against game-specific rules. I don't see that as happening - if he broke his agreement, that may be dishonorable but isn't cheating per se. trying to burn up your gems by having an initial attack is "gamey", maybe an exploit... i guess you could argue along those lines.

Well, this is a good time to do it. He only has token forces in the south. As for the scouts of death; he apparently didn't think it was enough to outnumber me five to one, he needed them as well.

Rytek...I honestly didn't think we signed a NAP!!!! I knew I had them with my three other neighbors which left only you to attack!!!! 8^) And yeah.....you kicked my arse fair and square. Problem is....these MP 48 hour games move so slowly, I can't remember who I NAPPED 3 months ago or not. My apologies to you, sir, for the offense.

Odd though, Klaus the hero had 12 death gems and was scripted to cast darkness. At the beginning of the turn there were no death gems on his person. Weird. Anyway, I know I am going to pay for the.....uh......"mistake" I made. Please....just make it quick and merciful. I HATE slow deaths.

I'm tired about the charges against me.

I proposed a NAP, but you demanded a province and complained about my army defending the province. I said I would not give you the province but would move away my army when/if you agreed to a NAP. Only reason I could see why he did not want to sign a NAP was that he was going to attack so I reinforced the province. This made Ubercat very upset and he sent an insulting message, at that point I put on the lid and decided to attack him.

I did send four scouts into your capital to whip up some unrest. You found them all and I have looked at all four battles and your mages did not use any gems.

I will have to thank Edi for standing up and defending me and seeing through the complaints of Ubercat.

Yes.....I agree. It's a warGAME. Emphasis on game. I don't take these too seriously. Maybe next game we will be loyal allies. I don't carry grudges from one game to the next. Originally I thought three of us were attacking you and I ended up being the only one. Way under powered for the way you have built up. Nice game. I know it isn't over yet, but I can see I cannot hold my own against you. Good job. But I will do everything I can think of to make it a challenge for you.

I didn't demand. I respectfully requested that you cede it to me, as it bordered my capital. I also indicated that your having troops there made me nervous.

When you said no, I asked if I could trade you something for it. You didn't even bother to decline bartering. You just threatened (as you admitted above).

There was no reason you needed an army there. Neither of us are playing aquatic factions. Without help from land armies, our naval forces would be no major threat to each other. Nevertheless, you built up your army every turn, forcing me to keep my army in the fort when it could have been useful elsewhere. Didn't the London blitz teach you that you can't bully someone into submission? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

In your shoes I would have withdrawn the army as soon as I realised it was annoying you. It would be simple courtesy, especially since I was no threat to you. If we'd agreed to a NAP and then I invaded your sea region, then I'd show myself a liar, and achieve nothing special by it. We'd just start a pointless naval arms race, which any REAL sea faction would laugh at, wasting our gold in the process.

Quote:

And you have now seen with your own eyes that I only built 40 Shamblers, just as I said. Not much of a force to capture your whole ocean and then take your capital. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif I wouldn't have built them at all, except that I had an inland seazone to grab. As for insulting you, I believe I questioned your knowlege of human nature, in reference to your attempts to bully me into a NAP. Was there something else I said?
