Heh. Apologies to the other players. If you think reading Whollaborg and I will get you down, feel free to skip mine at least. If you like watching drama though...I have a feeling there will be plenty! ; )
Whollaborg: I am losing/have lost the majority of my MP games. *shrug* Then again, I have never played MP, in any game, at all before now, and I have less than ten games here under my belt. I have a decent shot at winning in 1.5 games I'm currently playing. --I would say 2, but I have a sneaking suspicion I'm about to get ganged up on in Elli. (So long as they give me the warning our 3-turn NAPs require, all's good though. ; ) I want to be absolutely clear here, even though I'm sure you know exactly what is going on, and you are only trying to muddy the waters a little. I'm not using--and wouldn't use--scorched earth because I'm losing. I'm using these tactics because of the reasons I spelled out in my previous post: you attacked me while negotiating, and then promised me the moon to keep me from attacking you until you were ready. And like a fool--that I admit--I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. I think you're just upset because you thought you had lied and stolen your way into a win between us--and now you're watching (most of) the spoils of that win fritter away right before your eyes. (And I must admit, I didn't think I'd be able to do this much pillaging. Thanks for letting me!) --IndyPendant. |
Re: Whollaborg
Ha ha. Way to go Indy!
At first I was neutral in the MAN/TEINCHI war. It was just one sides word against the other, but after reading all the pure vitrol coming from Whollaborg I have to say Indy is at least a more graceful loser. Let this be an open declaration that Jotunheim will attack the kingdom of man on sight. We are now at war. |
Re: Whollaborg
Heh. Glad to hear it, Cor2, and thanks!
--Although honesty compels me to point out that I've hardly been vitriol-free myself. Still, I believe I have cause, and all of my vitriol has been in reaction to Whollaborg's actions towards me, so there is a difference I suppose. Not that I'm complaining, mind! I only wish I could have taken him out myself. Since I can't...welcome aboard sir! May I hang up your jacket for you? ; ) --IndyPendant. |
Re: Indypendant, Losing and whining even more
Your last message states your reasons clearly as you say, "I cannot stop your army...", "anything and everything I can do to reduce your gains from your victory will be done. Anything at all."
So you are exactly stating you are killing your population because you are losing. Would have expected you to show your army in attempt of defence at least, but everyone fled to the capital to pillage it even before anything was decided on the field even. A sad loser. [to Jotunheim: please receive these gems as a gift from the eunuchs frenzily killing themselves http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif /Z] |
Apologies to readers
I confess that i got a bit too agitated by the lies directed to me in person (etc.).
I responded these in person, everything else i have tried to roleplay. And perhaps eventually i can start posting as Z instead of Whollaborg in this gameforum too. I apologise my too harsh language as it makes these forums less pleasant for us to dwell on the issues in the game. I try to restrain my language a bit even if i get assaulted as verbally again in this game even. Hope we can cool down a bit with the Indypendant as well, so we would not have to wait him getting out of the game? Whollaborg |
And who started the personal attacks, Indypendant?
#577922 - Mon Jan 28 2008 08:49 PM:
"I still outproduce you, I will still destroy you." "..You are a liar and cheat. Take you down I will, the cost does not matter to me. *shrug* " My personal response: #577935 - Mon Jan 28 2008 09:01 PM: "Hehee http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Already losing your nerve?" #579119 - Mon Feb 04 2008 04:20 AM "To Whollaborg: Scorched earth, you scumbag." "...with a filthy, scheming thug like you." "..."do not trust Whollaborg, ever." "And may the best man win! (A safe toast, since that excludes Whollaborg.)" #580123 - Fri Feb 08 2008 11:37 PM "Still, I believe I have cause, and all of my vitriol has been in reaction to Whollaborg's actions towards me, so there is a difference I suppose." Well, reading that again agitates again. I still have to think you are a worm, lying that you didn't start the filth. Whollaborg |
Re: And who started the personal attacks, Indypend
Chill guys. I know it's really frustrating for both of you, but you have to remember that things almost always look completely different from the other perspective. Also, if another player beats you by trickery - well, a real pretender god might do that. The convention on these forums is for great honesty, but there is no rule on that. (Actually it might be wise to start stating such conventions at the start of games so that there are fewer misunderstandings.) If you do use trickery though, you have to remember that people will get upset, and may do weasely things themselves.
Similarly pillaging your own lands can be seen as unsportsmanlike. I probably agree, but there's nothing as vicious as a god scorned after all. Although I wouldn't encourage it it's not completely unreasonable. Assuming all of both your claims are correct, it just looks as though you're both playing weasel gods. Fair enough. I would say that to my mind this would all be less bad if you tried to keep in character. Insulting the enemy god is fine after all (you'd expect it in fact). Being insulted directly is very hurtful, and it is extremely difficult to remain calm when insulted. Being as people virtually never agree on the truth of the matter in matters such as these, people will always honestly feel that the other one is the liar. |
Battle in the Swamp
Report from Toemuck Fen, by Aanhhh, mysteriously-named chief swamp-scrubber of Mictlan:
"Oh great one who is not yet among us, this month we were set upon by harpies and satyrs, as we ventured out to prepare the way for the arrival of the infamous menhorses! I regret to report we lost Harold, Fred, and Bill too! At this rate, in just under 13 years, we will have no more units left for either pre-sweeping duty or mushroom hunting! I request immediate reinforcements." |
Re: Battle in the Swamp
Now things are getting interesting.
|
Re: Battle in the Swamp
I just found myself travelling abroad with a broken laptop (hence the stall, actually sending this message from an internet cafe in spain). I won´t be able to get another turn in until wednesday (eastern US). I´d greatly appreciate if we could postphone hosting until then.
I apologize to everybody for the stall and this late notice. |
Re: Battle in the Swamp
I am also out of town without access to dominions, so this works out great. I felt that it would be abusing my position to postpone the host for my own stale, so I didn't mention it.
EDIT- Postponed by 72 hours. Hosting will be wed. ~23:45 |
Re: Battle in the Swamp
FAJ, it's not abusing your position, you just need to post a message to the thread to yourself, requesting an delay in hosting. Or you can just send yourself an email. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Battle in the Swamp
I forgot, did we nerf Clams for this game?
|
Re: Battle in the Swamp
No, CB pretenders and scales only AFAIK.
|
Re: Battle in the Swamp
Thanks, not that I am going to forge any of those evil clams. No sir reebob....

Re: Battle in the Swamp
Jotunheim is glad to announce that the evil pretender of Ulm has met first death at the hands of the mighty Jotun army. Adolf, prince of death, had his tounge ripped out before being slaughtered by a lowly Jotun Militia. While he will return, no doubt, but he will certainly have learned the proper respect due to Jotunheim and her defenders.
To all other races and nations, We wish you the best! may your mead be ever frosty! |
Re: Battle in the Swamp
Mictlan is pleased to hear news from the world! For the great Graphs of Power in the sky are not visible, so we know not what transpires outside our meager landholdings.
In the north, the thundering hooves of the manhorses have quietened. But Mictlan suspects that is only because they have put socks on their hooves. At dawn when we awaken it appears the very forests and jungles have moved, and we suspect huge armies of the wild creatures are sneaking about, ready to pounce. No mead for Mictlan's armies, not while the dire threat of being pounced upon looms over our head! |
Re: Battle in the Swamp
Haha, Jotunheim! You forgot to mention that also your plans of invasion failed miserably that turn. Despite of your overwhelming numerical superiority Ulmish troops managed to disperse your horde of giants. You've lost 130 giants vs 30 plain Ulmish footmen in the last battle - keep up good work! And you've been dealing only with half of my army, the other Ulmish task force is successfully fighting against your Agarthian lackeys, inflicting massive casualties each month.
Now rich lands of Jotunheim are almost defenseless - we urge civilized powers to intervene in our war. We will pay 100 earth gems any nation that will lay siege upon capital city of the barbarian giants. |
Re: Battle in the Swamp
Ah, more news of the world! It seems battle rages everywhere.
And Mictlan has been pounced upon, as we feared. We would raze the forests so we could see Pan's armies better, but then where would we get our mushrooms? Never mind, we shall do some pouncing of our own! |
Re: T\'ien-Ch\'i still stands!
More news of the world: T'ien-Ch'i would like to announce that for the second time, we have destroyed Man in his futile attempt to take our home province from us.
This time, Man has lost over two hundred archers, knights, fliers, and vine men and ogres. That is in addition to losing a hundred or more units the last time he tried. And failed miserably that time as well. All for the loss on my side of...a bunch of birds. Plus a dozen or so archer chaff, and I think 2-4 useful leaders. (Maybe; hard to tell.) I even recovered most of the items lost when my kitted-out Immortal heroes died! Can't wait for more of Man's minions to die on our swords in Round Three! Bring it! (I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever be kicked out of the game, at this rate. ; ) |
Re: T\'ien-Ch\'i still stands!
Heh,
So the feeble Tie Chi is begining to see that the cowardly razing all of their lands and killing all their own population before any decisive battles at all was a great folly and idiocy in its highest peak. But you are wellcome to recover http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Zhukov |
Re: T\'ien-Ch\'i still stands!
Hmm...are you implying then that your catastrophic defeats have left you vulnerable to a counterattack?
|
Re: T\'ien-Ch\'i still stands!
Ulm, I thought Jotun lands were volnerable. Why don't you come in an play?

Extension for FAJ
Can we please delay this turn for FAJ?
That way he'll only have staled once. He posted that he'd be away for a week, but to a different thread: http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...;Number=583190 This is a small group of nations already and I'd hate to see FAJ go AI because of a bunch of stales. I'm sure he can handle the one time he staled. |
Re: Extension for FAJ
vfb asked me to postpone by 48 hours. I went crazy and postponed it by 60, just to be on the safe side.
|
Re: Extension for FAJ
Thanks llamabeast!
From FAJ's post, it looks like he may have found a sub for this game, but his turn just didn't get done, and he was about to stale again. |
Re: Extension for FAJ
what? i'm subbing - i missed one turn due to email delays - thought it would get in in time, as it was w/in 3 hrs of the 3 hr notice, but clearly the times were a bit off. turn 49 was submitted last night... why is there a delay? This turn was submitted well before the deadline - in no way was I about to stale.
please reinstate the normal schedule unless there is some real reason |
Re: Extension for FAJ
Oh, that's good! Thanks for subbing for FAJ.
In FAJ's 'request for sub' thread (linked above), it's impossible to tell whether or not he actually managed to get you to sub for him or not. He had staled once, and there was something like 6 hours left on the timer. I was about to go to bed, FAJ is actually the admin for this game, and I think llamabeast is in England. So, to prevent a second stale, I had to request an extension when I did. I've got no idea why Ulm has not submitted orders yet. |
Re: Extension for FAJ
(Edit: Ah well. Looks like it wasn't quite as good as I thought. See the post below.)
|
Behold! Tien Chi is ruling!
Whooaa,
Tien chi is surely going to conquer the world now!!! All hail the overwhelming genius of the pretender strategist who slaughtered he's followers in a recordspeed retreat, but is now going to snatch the crown of the sole god before your very eyes! First we couldn't figure out how fantastic the plan of this übermind was, but now we see it! btw; [Somehow quite a few (8) of the lucky thirteen sent monks appeared in the neighbouring provinces (one even wounded), perhaps the code has been altered and it's now possible to escape from the pd++++++++ ?] Really fearing for he's meager unlife now, Zhukov |
Re: Behold! Tien Chi is ruling!
You can usually escape from PD if you own a neighboring province. (Well, escaping from Pan PD is tough because of their flyers, and Man might be tough if they have longbowmen.)
Or is a TC province that your monk escaped into by sneaking? That would be new! |
Sneaking monks fled?
Yes vfb,
The monks went into the tien chi's only province left by sneak command, and they fought separately as they were discovered each separately. (Some of them had <cast spell> and <retreat> or plain <retreat> script and most of them were placed on the rear edge of the screen). I have not been able to observe the combats because right now i have access only to inferioir computer, but i am going to check the fights this weekend at my home. Cheers for the 50th turn! Whollaborg |
Re: Sneaking monks fled?
In dom3 you could always (and can still) retreat from sneak discoveries. My scouts are always set to Retreat, placed on the far left, so that when they are discovered, they just get RIPPED APART BY HARPIES! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif
Okay, so if they weren't sneaking around in Pan land, they'd get discovered and then retreat as fast as they can into a friendly neighboring province. What you don't want to do is set an assassin to Retreat on the turn you move him into a province (in case he's discovered that same turn), and then forget to update his combat script when you give him the orders to assassinate. Doh! I hate it when I do that. |
Re: Sneaking monks fled?
Oh bah, for once Whollaborg is right. Seven researcher-replacements is still good (considering I have only one province), but doesn't count as Round Three. Proclamation withdrawn, and previous post edited accordingly. : /
Still...next! (I wonder what the end-game is going to be like, since it seems I'll be around to see it...) |
Re: Sneaking monks fled?
I have cheaper meese!!!! beware enemies of Jotunheim! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Cannot move
Well, that's annoying. My army in 153 has been given orders to move into 170 two turns in row now, and has ignored those orders both times. I'd very much to attack Pan, but it does not appear to be possible.
This time, I even took out the one unit with stealth out. Pan may even be trying to attack me across the same border! He complained he had a problem getting his army to obey orders too. Bah. |
Re: Cannot move
Vfb - for a while now I thought we'd just get it over with, and I was indeed trying to attack you there for the past 2 turns - like you said, nothing is happening.
Very annoying, and it also makes any strategy/tactics impossible. Is this a larger issue following the new patch? |
Re: Cannot move
Thanks for disclosing your moves too.
It's not a new bug, it's happened before to others too. I'll update the post I made in the forums with the new info. I agree, it's pretty annoying! I don't want to disclose too much to the mortal enemies of Mictlan, but I'm tired of being stuck there and have made strategic adjustments. So, we may still have a problem, but at least we won't have exactly the same problem. PS How'd you like that suicidal thug a couple turns ago? Man, what a waste of gems! Doh! |
Re: Cannot move
Ok - now its 3 turns in a row that my army wouldn't move.
Other armies are moving just fine though - i am starting to think maybe the bug is triggered when 2 big armies above a certain size (we both have a lot of units there) are trying to attack each other, i.e. both are moving against each other? Actually no - I see now that your army moved somewhere else this turn. |
Re: Cannot move
Yes, that's right, I gave up on trying to do that move. I assumed that since I stopped trying to move into your land, your move would work. I did not try to move any units at all across that border.
I assumed that your move would work, so I split my army somewhat and brought up some reinforcements, and just prayed what I left would be enough to handle your invaders. |
Re: Cannot move
i am now sending the turn file, and will be able to send the next immediatly, but I was wondering if we could then postpone the game until Saturday night( 4am sunday, english time) as I will be unable to play.
|
Re: Cannot move
Upon the next host (with the turn you have already sent), I will postpone the next hosting untill that time.
|
Re: Cannot move
Hosting postponed for Forseti by 5 hours. The game will now host at 04:31 GMT on Sunday March 16th.
This is after I erroneously postponed it for 36 hours, to 11:31 saturdaynight, forgetting the time was GMT http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. |
Clock
Can we switch to a 48-hour clock please?
I keep having to rush my turns, and I forget what I had planned on doing. I think 48 hours is pretty reasonable seeing as how we're on turn 57 now. Not that 57 is any special number or something ... I probably should have asked for the switch at around turn 50. |
Re: Clock
The hosting interval for Forseti has now been changed to 48 hours, and the deadline for the next hosting has been automatically postponed by 18 hours.
|
Re: Clock
57 is a very special turn number. It's when I always reveal my secret army of super combatants and win the game by turn 58!
Enjoy these last 48 hours. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: Clock
Thanks for increasing the clock.
Looks like BigAndScary has not yet returned to Dominions, after wherever it was he went on the weekend. Hope he doesn't stale 3 in a row. Maybe these extra hours will let him get a turn in. |
Anvil of Man is heated again, the bazaar is open!
Shop now!
We are clad to announce that we have started the anvil of Man second time. Now the fire burns brighter and hotter than before. If you pay in death or astral gems, we will be willing to forge for 90% of the casting cost prizes rounded down (not including the artifacts)! The bazaar of Man is now open, all rejoice! Zhukov |
The fate of R\'lyeh
R'lyeh has been stalling a bit too much i recon. They have lost 13 turns now and this time it seems it's going to be 3rd time a row.
Should we seek a replacement or something, as the game wont be advancing very fast if the R'lyeh wont appear active some time soon? Whollaborg |
All times are GMT -4. The time now is 10:12 AM. |
