Zeldor: yes, the tga-file is the picture of the map, and it is the only file the players will need (apparently turn file contains all information they need about the game). The calculations happen in wholy different server, so players do not need the map file. This is useful when editing a map (like has been done here) so everyone do not have to download it.

Jomon and Arco need to upload their pretenders.

Let's just go ahead and play without modding the map. Which means, that I'm very thankful Caelum isn't in the game. There's gonna be some quick ugly fireworks happening in the center of the map.

Agreed. Let's go.

Sending mine in a moment.

I am not at home right now, so someone please notify llamabeast if we have all players, so game can start.

P.S. Most lucky nations are rather Atlantis and Mictlan as they only nations with good water units [Mictlan even has blessed atlantians].

Center of the map? With wraparounds, I can never tell where the center is!

Elswamio - Jomon - is the only one left to submit their pretender.

"Elswamio - Jomon - is the only one left to submit their pretender. "

Is Els, still interested in playing? Like to get started sooner rather than later...

Re: New semi-newbie game!

I certainly don't blame him for losing interest, we've got to be setting some kind of record for the longest MP setup time in the history of Dom3 (three weeks tomorrow!).

Zeldor, I suggest PM-ing llamabeast with the green-light to start. If Jomon gets a pretender in before hosting, great; actually, as I understand, llamabeast is a bit behind schedule, so it'll be a race of sorts.

Zeldor February 20th, 2008 03:38 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

hoo:I hope not, he does not seem to be here, cause I didn't get a read receipt for my message yet.

Cleveland:
Hmm... I will wait few hour before doing that or tell llamabeast to start in the morning, gmt time. Arcoscephale and Pangea woul probably be most happy if there was no Jomon.

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Zeldor, this game doesn't seem to have a serious start-date in sight. If it isn't running by this evening, I'm going to have to respectfully withdraw.

If I'm thinking of the correct game, Zeldor has PMed me to ask me to start it, so I will do so this evening.

Yep, even 2 PMs http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

We should get the new patch soon, so new nice features before we have any wars.

Cleveland:
I fully agree, it was way too long to start it, due to many things. But let's have fun anyway http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I still think we will be in that game in few months time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

In response to something a couple of pages ago: Players only need the .tga file for the map, while the host needs the .map file as well.

Starting the game in a few minutes... (just gathering the map, mods etc).

Fixed the Bogarus bug (the LlamaServer had never seen Bogarus before, so they had to be introduced).

Why VPs on the map? I am sure they are not active, but still, confusing [same problem was in Urapara].

llamabeast February 21st, 2008 06:48 PM

Re: Alexandria - battle for balanced glory [closed

They are not active, but yes, they are confusing. They do generate some dominion for the owner, apparently the same as a dom-5 temple (i.e. on average half a candle per round).

PashaDawg February 21st, 2008 07:52 PM

Re: Alexandria - battle for balanced glory [closed

Why are there VPs? I don't think the version of the map file I gave to Zeldor included any specified VP provinces. Am I mistaken?

Re: Alexandria - battle for balanced glory [closed

We may need to restart. The game complains my turn file is corrupt; I suspect that the reason for this is that I made my god with only CB-mod version 1.2 (I actually downloaded the new version but didn't move the .dm file to right directory, and did not select the new version of the mod). First turn went fine, but I cannot do my next turn. I'm sorry about this, but I cannot really participate to this game without restart.

cleveland February 22nd, 2008 06:02 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Have you tried installing 1.21?

llamabeast February 22nd, 2008 06:45 PM

Re: Alexandria - battle for balanced glory [closed

What do you mean your turn file is corrupt? I don't think your explanation is a likely one FrozenFalcon (it would have complained and accused you of cheating immediately if your god was dodgy).

I will try manually resending you your turn file. Occasionally, and utterly inexplicably, that helps.

Pasha - it's a quirk of Dominions that games started from the command line have VPs. Although I suspect I may have found a workaround. I've never paid it much attention because it's never bothered me, but maybe it's worth playinh with if it bothers other people.

FrozenFalcon February 22nd, 2008 07:32 PM

Re: Alexandria - battle for balanced glory [closed

The resent file works. Hopefully this problem won't reoccur.

cleveland February 22nd, 2008 09:27 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Glad that's cleared up, thanks for the help llamabeast.

So we're on 24-hr hosting now? Seems turns are due in 4 hrs...

Zeldor February 23rd, 2008 06:30 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Please people try to do your turns ASAP, we are now waiting for Atlantis only... Making turn now is 2 minutes only. Though I got some bad luck with indie reinforcements and lost prophet already. That is fast.

Dang, I really should have taken the scale bug more seriously. It's killing me this early.

Zeldor February 24th, 2008 08:29 AM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Yep, that is really ugly. But patch should be already out, so I think we will get it that week, though I guess it won't instantenously restore broken scales. Atlantis, Utgard will probably suffer most.

Well, I havent noticed any bug so far. My scales are fine.

Zeldor February 26th, 2008 07:12 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Scales vanish in a province that does not have friendly dominion in every of its neighbours. So you will notice it when enemy dominion get close.

Ylvali February 26th, 2008 07:33 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Is that always so in all games or just sometimes?

I have never heard of this before (newbie)

Zeldor February 26th, 2008 07:53 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Yes, good scales vanish like that since last patch, though it is already fixed and new patch should be released soon.

Anyway I can get like a 2 hour extension on this turn? I am normally super fast but had an all-nighter at work last night...

Man, I am so out of luck :/ I forgot that he gets regeneration now like a province he comes from but of province where he goes into, he was going from my high dominion into enemy dominion.

Why do you accuse Pangaea of being your enemy? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I assume hosting will now be postponed until you get back from China? If so, have a great trip.

Well, black candles, is it better? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

About postponing, we will see, I can play a turn tomorrow morning, so we can have 1-2 more turns before break.

Well it seems I have to leave tonight... I guess IŽll have to live with staling. IŽll be back sunday at 11:30. I couldnŽt find a sub so...

cleveland February 28th, 2008 12:14 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Zeldor: just put the game on hold, there's no need to stale.

Ylvali:

Nah, no staling! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I will postpone hosting by 9999999999999999 hours, but we should get a new turn on monday http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Some people have hostile intentions already, so it may be interesting.

Note to self: don't set force consisting entirely of archers to target enemy archers who happen to also have poisonous hydras.

Very sad to see my guys standing in noxious clouds taking pot shots into the distance.

As if your archers could have done anything to my glorious hydras. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

DonCorazon March 1st, 2008 07:11 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

They were pretty glorious.
I had always wondered why so-called "giant" Hydras only had the 6HP that show up on the recruitment screen. Now I know, after lopping off a few heads, that those are the per Lesser Head HP, and even after cutting off a few of those you still have to take off the big head at ~ 25HP.

Moral of the story is we will be staying out of the swamps of Pythium...
