Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
No rush anyway, I am still busy reading the grimmoire and planning my magic research...
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Whoa, Kyosti freaked about abit. No worries there mate, don't let the joking get to you, we're not about to gang up on someone for being slow on their turn. That'd be ridiculous!! Plus it would make no sense in the game world http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Anyway I hope I meet people soon so I can get some real diplomacy going and start a lil rp. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
I want everyone to know now and forever that I have begun to forge for myself an item of true power! As we speak my sages are crafting an incredibly invincible... hat!
Yes, it is the divine truth! A grand and powerful head piece is now in my possession and I demand now that you tremble in fear of it! Fear it for it has the power to be somewhat indestructible! All hail the mighty hat wearer and his equally mighty hat! |

Area - will you share some details about this uber hat accessory project?
Anyway, I am building an igloo. It's not especially large nor magical, but it is suitable for storing frozen fish through the polar night. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Nothing more need to be said about my amazing hat, aside from the fact that it is complete! It's power has been unleashed! There is no longer a single doorway in my kingdom capable of bruising my noggin! My head is now invincible in the face of door frames!
I demand you be convinced that none of your gateways will hinder me any longer! Live in constant fear of that thought! |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Hey all, I should have done this a while ago: I'd like to ask for a volunteer to admin the game. The admin has to do two things:
1) If a player asks for an extension or anything then do it (provided it's reasonable; a day or two is reasonable, if they are going away for a week they should get a sub). It's super easy via the interface on the website. 2) If the admin gets knocked out of the game, pass the password on to one of the remaining players. It's a really easy job, but it keeps me from having to carefully watch 30-odd game threads (which I tried for a bit, and it hurt). If someone would volunteer I'd greatly appreciate it. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
I'm down for adminning, if you want. I check the thread once daily at least.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Awesome, thanks gowb! I'll PM you in a sec with the admin password.

Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Is it possible to find magic sites in any province? Or is it just in those provinces that are marked with little suns or magical looking landmarks?
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Magic sites can be anywhere. That being said, some sites are more likely to appear in certain terrain. As an example, forest provinces are more likely to contain nature sites. The icons on the right of the province description will tell your more about the terrain.
The icons on the left side of the province description, like the little suns, are just temporary qualities of the province. They can be changed by a number of factors. For example, many provinces suffer from heat in the summer season and from cold during the winter seasons. The biggest factor in effecting these qualities are dominion. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
I was actually talking about the little suns on the map itself - not the heat / cold scales. I know what those are. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif But thanks. I was worried that I wouldn't have easy access to any magic sites, since none of the likely provinces are near me.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Ah, well yeah. Those provinces are just more magical. They are more likely to have magic sites. That being said I've played games on this map before using Acashic Record and it can happen that nothing is there and a bunch of good sites can show up in unlikely places. Its all luck.

Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Behold, brave eskimos defeated the corrupt armies of Arcoscephale. Their army barbarised, the enemy hid cowardly behind the backs of foreign crossbow mercenaries and hired elephants from the east - but to no avail. From the depth of the sea, the just rage of Dagon, the Awakened Sleeper, Devourer of Heretic came, wielding two frost-covered blades who shone with cold light that pierced enemy hearts with fear. One by one they fell, and though elephants knocked mighty Ulam-Ulam around a bit, the victory was ours before the day was gone. The igloos are thawing with joy!
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
I thought this was a land nation only game? Is it going to skew everything if one player has pretty much free reign on all of the sea provinces?
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
The only nations that were unavailable were Ermor and Rylegh due to their dominion effects. There were no objections about Atlantis, you could see it on the list from the start.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Besides, Atlantis starts on land, not in the sea. It has amphibious units, but other nations have them too.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
It is no easy thing to play a water nation.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
I was actually referring to this comment from llamabeast
"...this will be a land nation only game.." But I figure he was talking about the parganos map having no water sites. I was just wandering what difference it might make if one nation has easy access to plenty of provinces which other nations cannot attack. Plus it is a lot harder to defend your borders verse water nations. It is not a big deal, this is my first MP game, as can be seen by looking at the statistics, and was just wandering how much of a difference it could make. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Since there is no gold gain or magic sites from the sea provinces, it isn't that big of a deal. Or it doesn't seem like it to me. Like you this is my first MP game so I'm not entirely sure.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Atlantis has decided to SC rush the peaceful nation of Arcoscephale.
So I have a proposal for anyone interested 5000 Gold Coin to anyone who is prepared to help in the battle against Atlantis the aggressor and current top of the leader board. So you will receive lots of gold and a lions share of Atlantis's provinces, a great deal. You can PM me or send me a message in game if interested. You can be sure if he successful in his campaign against me he will soon look to new borders to conquer. Also as I am sure everyone has worked out already Kamamura is a complete prat and the game would be better off without him anyway. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
The proud eskimos of Atlantis wish to remind everyone that it is better to side with the victor than with the defeated. Loyal friends will be protected and rewarded with trust and fruitful cooperation, traitors will meet swift justice.
Vae victus! |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
I would also like to remind the Arcoscephale hired thugs that they are threading on ancient Atlantian burial grounds, offending both the restless spirits of our ancestors and justly enraged populace. It's them who are the agressors, and Atlantis is merely conducting a retaliatory, preventive strike to defend its homeland.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
I would like those who have inherited from the children of fire to know that, as of yet, they are not threatened with retaliation. Their failed attempt to conquer our lands have already enacted my vengeance. I assure you that your pretend god will not recover from those grievous wounds and I have lost nothing but meager chaff.
Peace be on to you and your people... for now. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
However, I would like to remind Arcoscephale that Atlantis is a nation not only bold and proud, but also merciful to those who deserve it. Should Arcoscephale express some form of humility and willingness to cooperate, instead of displays of stubborn and futile adversity, our nation might grant Arcoscephale the status of a vassal state with many enjoyable privilegies and honors.
If Arcoscephale does not find the strength and nobility to negotiate in a civilized manner, its inevitable bitter end will sadden the compassionate souls of many Atlantians. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Battle of Akhtala Ridge
Honourable Arcoscephale Lead by the prophet Alexander. Versus the Deceitful Atlantians lead by the Pretender Ulam Ulam. Turn One Stomp,Stomp,Stomp,Splat,Splat,Kasplat,Thud....... Turn Two BBQ Eskimo and Ulam Ulam Yum Yum......... |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Well, it is true that our brave warriors... overextended themselves a bit :-)
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Does this mean the 5000 gold bounty for Ulam Ulam's head is off?
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Yes the bounty is off
much like Ulam Ulams head!! |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
The giants of the Jotun hills have drank in peace with the men of the Arcosephalian plains, and the aggression of the fish people will not be tolerated! Such a dangerous neighbor cannot be allowed to exist, so for the safety of men and giants, we march on Atlantis!

Whoah, weird error. The weirdest thing is I can't work out which company's "daily usage limits" I could be exceeding - the mail server is just a computer at my brother's house. Anyway, let me know if it happens again.

The so called "fish people" won't hesitate to bring righteous revenge to all traitors!

Gowb or Llama, could you please delay 3 hours, to 24:25 GMT, the next turn, only then I will have acess to my gaming computer. Thanks.

Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Sure, no problem.
In other news, war in the south is heating up! The only uninvolved southern nation so far is Marignon, but who knows how long this will last?? The fishes of Atlantis are on the run and hiding in their stronghold. Arcosephale, once on the defensive itself, rushes to reclaim lost lands while the giants of the Jotun hills take advantage of the chaos! Who will emerge the victor?? Only time will tell... |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Sounds like the southern continent is the place not to be.
Although the northern lands seem to be on a knife edge with many pretenders poised to strike, who shall be the first to march to war? |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
The brave Atlantian nation wants to say this: The treachery commited on our nation shall not go unpunished. We may have been defeated on land, but the lakes, rivers and seas are deep. Watch your step when your farmers go to fill a bucket of water, or your maids admire their beauty in a flowing river - our righteous wrath will not be far!
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Being in the middle between warring south and soon exploding north is not very nice either. Caelum has been at peace except accidental clashing with Pangaea forces when we both moved to same indy province and my army run away when my mammoths fell in love with the beautiful Pangaens and refused to trample them http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Treachery? The Atlantians speak of treachery where none exists. Arcosephale is on the warpath out of righteous vengeance - the fish people had marched right up to their doorstep before being driven away. The giants of the Jotun hills had no contact with the fishes before our small friends to the north warned us of their aggression, and we act only out of love for our Arcosephalian allies. So do not lend credence to Atlantis lies! Fish have no teeth to lie through, but they lie just the same.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
What Atlantis doesn't know is that the great nation of Man has begun the conquest of the sea already. It may also shock him to know that Heidegger, the Witch-King, has ordered the deaths of all living creatures in the sea. Soon the populations of all the underwater provinces will be pillaged to the point of non-existance. There will be no one to tax, no one to recruit, and no one to feed your hungry mouths.
Why would Heidegger do this you say. Simply put, he dislikes sea food. |

Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Aasbjörn stood tall against the setting sun. It had burned brightly today, hotter than the Voice of Sölve usually preferred. But the hills of his home were far behind him, and he stood on this fertile ground that the Lord of Near and Close had demanded become theirs. The blood of the indigenous forces stained the soil beneath his feet, and his human retainers busied themselves with finishing off the wounded and dying around him. The Norna and her apprentice had left to scry for any traces of magic left in this dying world, and his elite warriors were off relaxing in their brief respite. He was alone, his massive form silhouetted against the sky. The giant called to be the Prophet of the World God sighed. Not for the first time did he wonder why he had answered that call.
The one they called the Golden directed his gaze to the north. His scouts had reported that a large army of Atlantians had attacked immediately upon his departure, easily rolling over the paltry defenses he had set up. The giant rested his hands on the sword struck into the ground before him, shifting slightly in his burnished golden armor. He had a decision to make. Stand and trust in the might of the Arcosephalian army, or retreat from the behemoth to the north? His warband was in tune with battle and hungry for more, but they were few in number and he doubted any magical tricks the Hag's daughters could come up with would turn the tide. Angerboda. The Hag of the Iron Wood was another problem he would have to face. The vile giantess had emerged from hiding several months ago, seemingly subservient and willing to serve Lord Sölve - but Aasbjörn did not trust her. The witch served only herself, and though she would not dare to challenge the Lord of Winter Himself, surely His prophet stood as a potential obstacle to power. He did not feel entirely safe with her roaming the halls of the Coldsteel Palace. Beseiged by enemies from both within and without. Aasbjörn the Golden sighed once again, no steam issuing with his breath, once again reminding him of the distance between him and his beloved home. With a fatalistic shrug, the stoic giant drew the horned helm of his position over his head. Either way, the respite was over. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Utgard requires Death gems and is willing to trade Air, Earth, Astral, or Nature 1:1 for them. We would also be willing to go as high at 50:1 gold for such gems.
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
I am resigning the game.
Goodbye and thanks for all the fish. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Thus the war in the south wraps up. With the evil Atlantians easily conquered (I didn't even have to do anything, lol), Arcosephale, Marginon, and Utgard are the remaining nations on the southern continent. There is peace...for now.
OOC Good game Kamamura, next time you may want to wait for the seigeing army to break in though. You get the benefit of them having to stream through a small opening and your towers can usually play a large role in defense. I think that would've made it much harder for his elephants to roll right over you. Lessons learned! |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Keep us updated on the war to the north guys! It looks like Man, Mictlan, Jomon and C'tis all lost significant amounts of troops recently, while Midgard took a bunch of Abysia's lands...who is fighting whom?? Spill the beans!
|
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
Arcosephalian Scholars have released earlier documented reports and negotiations between the 2 nations Atlantis and Arcosephale.
Peace loving Arcosephales earlier request to the Atlantians "What would it take for a peace agreement?" Response from the former Warmongering Atlantians. "The only peace treaty I would be willing to accept considering current power distribution is that I would not go westward beyond that river. Any territories lying eastward are easily within the reach of my forces and I consider them mine. If you can somehow migrate westward, you can save yourself." (Westward would have involved leaving my Capital to the Atlantians) Victory can be so sweet!! |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
The realm of Midgard retaliates to the invasion of her rightful lands by the vile Abysians. Though advanced in arcane lore, the enemy magicians lack gems and their troops are as cowardly rabble. The flame shall be extinguished and the frigid North reborn anew!
Reports from elsewhere on the continent indicate hostilities raging between the forces of Ulm & Agartha. Key chokepoints are contested - it shall be of interest to see how it plays out. |
Re: VesperBat - LA game for new players - open
"Captain Scar", the right hand of the prophet of Nosphestes, "El Episcopo", issues the command and the Knights of Marignon ride towards the northern port city of their nation to arrest a band of barbarians. The trespassers, led by a chieftain who dared to bring the northern wars to the shores of Marignon, decided to resist arrest and were inevitably slaughtered.
"These outlanders fight like maniacs, I will give them that", Scar makes a mental note to himself. |
