Hey folks. Due to some personal matters, I am forced to withdraw from all the games I am currently playing. I've chosen to set myself to AI (which I normally hate to do) rather than look for a substitute because I don't want to delay the game any longer than I already have. Thank you for your understanding.

NO! Now all Pythium's neighbors get a bunch of free provinces.

You seem to be in a decent spot on the score graphs. Is there anyway we could try to find a sub? It's never fun when 1-2 nations get a huge advantage because someone went AI.

Yes, it might be a good idea to try to find a sub but I'm not sure we'll manage to.

I don't know that there is a huge advantage to be had BigDis.

Ulm and Ryalla are very dominant in this game.

Pretty sure he's already AI - he made the same post on BraveNewWorld, and it hosted immediately, and he shows as AI now.

If we were to delay though and someone resend this turns .2h file in without the command to go AI, then I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be.

I would be fine with a minor delay & a non-AI Pythium.

ano July 23rd, 2008 08:24 PM

Re: Ulm - Ashdod.

What do you mean by "minor" delay? I don't really think it's very easy to find a sub for him, however I don't mind it too.

chrispedersen July 23rd, 2008 10:38 PM

Re: Ulm - Ashdod.

Look,

No offense, but I had an neutrality pact with john that hemmed me in restricting the territories I could take. The return for that was an ally.

Its 27 turns into the game. I don't want another player I don't know, and who doesn't know the agreements taking over.

Let Pythium fall to its neighbors - anyone that is concerned about Ashdod gaining a third of pythium should check the charts. Ryllah and Ulm are way ahead of that already.

AdmiralZhao July 24th, 2008 01:11 AM

Re: Ulm - Ashdod.

Fine, Pythium can go AI. But you owe me one, Ashdod.

ano July 24th, 2008 04:18 AM

Re: Ulm - Ashdod.

Actually, I received a PM from a player who wants to sub. So, it is quite possible to have non-AI Pythium if we pause the game for 24 hours, I think.
chrispedersen
Subbing is a normal practice so you may accept it as a luck\unluck event. Also, if a player with big empire goes AI, it is a matter of much bigger imbalance.

ano July 24th, 2008 04:23 AM

Re: Ulm - Ashdod.

Also, I'm pretty sure you may restore all treaties because I doubt that new player will start wars once he joins the game.

konming July 24th, 2008 04:50 AM

Re: Ulm - Ashdod.

Greetings everyone, I have taken over the empire of Pythium. Please PM me about any pacts you have with me and I shall honor them.

Also we are in great need of the following items:

ring of regeneration and/or hydra skin armor
dwarven hammer

We can trade gems in favorable terms or forge things for you in return.

Cheers.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Ok. So, last message I see before the boards go down is Ryalla's saying, "OK - let Pythium go AI". So I attack.

And in the meantime konming joins as pythium, (which I have no knowledge of) so I attack someone who was willing to be my ally.

You should have stopped hosting when the boards went down.

chrispedersen July 25th, 2008 04:16 AM

Dwarven hammers

Ashdod will forge a dwarven hammer for the first person that

a). Naps.
b) Provides 25 earth gems. Death gems may be substituted, up to half.

It was a valiant last stand in Bandar Log. The cornered apes fought with impressive zeal - performing admirably against the assembled Mictlan horde.

As the last few Markatas scampered into the trees, a Rishi could be heard saying "I told you we should have NAPed Ulm, our Tigers would have gone to good use against Mictlan".

Good luck you guys, looks like I got sandwiched between the heavy hitters, look out for Ulm, Mictlan, and R'lyeh, they're all doing quite well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I only pause the game if I am asked to and there never was any problem with it. It was discussed in this thread that I was looking for a someone to sub johnarryn, later konmig himself replied here and I really see no reason why I should have paused the game and make people wait for nothing.
If you attacked allied nation before it actually became AI controlled, you were way too fast, if you didn't read the forums... What can I do with it?
Also, I believe that this attack won't hamper your relations if you really want to become allies.

Man, I read the forums almost constantly - at least 6-7 times a day, and more at night. There was no way to make a request for a delay. There was no way to find out Pythium was being subbed. The boards were down for maintenance! !

Ano, I think if there is a significant change to the game - like a change of player, a nation being set to ai, a change in victory conditions, etc. - that the game should be delayed until everyone knows it.

I'd like to propose that as a standard anyway.

I don't mind. I just need some criteria to understand that everyone knows. It's an ideal world, IMO. To make this proposition more realistic I may just pause the game for at least 24h in the cases you described, more if forums are unavailable.

Ashdods Forge & Pawn Shoppe

Ashdod would like to announce the opening of Ashdods forge and pawn shop. Catalog is forthcoming!

Others may be better (how they got to con-6 already!!) but no one beats our prices.

Ashdod - forging a brighter!

And don't forget to inquire about our reasonable layaway and pawn programs. Have rings of tamed lightning you're no longer using? Charcoal shields. Bring them in and let ashdod make you an offer to turn your old unused items into brand bling!

Ashdod - forging fire, earth, death, and air since the dawn of time.

The underwater forges of Ryleh are now open to the world. We offer a complete line of astral products, from rings of sorcery down to astral caps. Just send the quantity of the order, as well as your cap measurements and estimated brain-weight, to Ryleh. We also offer water and nature forging.

In general, Ryleh has an endless need for astral and death gems. We can pay well in gems, gold, or forging for these gems. The aid of our mages and armies can also be purchased for astral and death gems.

Have fun in the new Hellscape game, Executor.

Dr. Morrison, you should find C'tis in a good position, with strong magic and armies. Really though, their main strength is in their long-standing treaties and strategic partnership with the nation of Ryleh.

< Dusts off his boots with a satisfied smile. >

Well then, greetings again, denizens of stasis!

My escape from the doomed fortress of Bandar Log was well planned, and brought me a period of good health, and self reflection! In the meantime, I found this nation of oddly superstitious reptiles. Living among them, I studied their culture, until the day that I could convince them that I was the subject of an ancient prophecy.

Through C'tissian worship, I grow stronger daily. My muscles bulge and my eyes blaze with an ancient fury. I've not much felt myself since ascending to this new position of power. It is as if..... someone were urging me to do things that I would not have seen to be obvious choices, on my own. My heart hardens, and my mind focuses. The great war of the end days is upon us, and I have come to end it.

Why even just today, my waiter brought me the wrong meal, and I strangled him in front of everyone. Soon, all in Stasis will learn to fear me, just as the employees of Chili's fear me. O.O

\"Stasis\" - strange diplomacy

Something strange is happening in this game.
First I was betrayed by Jotunheim now the situation is nearly the same with Oceania. We had peace with these water inhabitans and according to our treaty were sending them 400 gold per turn for the possibility to control some land provinces they took form us before. I am not sure if it was a fair deal because those provinces had about 100 unrest but that is not the issue...
The issue is that we had a NAP with Oceania and we were sending him gold each turn and now we are heavily attacked without any warning. I am a new person to this forums but I'd like to ask if it is considered fair play here? I just don't get it.

I generally assume that it's under the honor system unless the host specifically says at the start of the game that NAPs and other agreements between players are not to be broken. You are quite unlucky...over many games I have yet to have someone break a NAP against me. The best you can do is to let everyone know of R'lyehs backstabbery and encourage those who currently have NAPs with R'lyeh that not only is he not to be trusted, but that since he has no respect for NAPs they should not respect the NAPs either and should go ahead and attack him and engage him in a 2 or 3 front war while he is fighting you.

More often than not though when someone breaks a NAP it is just a misunderstanding and the person who broke the NAP thought that they were within their rights. Most people do try to protect their reputation.

Karnoza was definitely speaking about Oceania, not Ryleh. I have had dealings with Seej (Oceania) before, when he broke a NAP in a previous game. I've never met a more untrustworthy player; he seems to take delight in breaking his treaties. A duck should trust a scorpion before you place faith in one of Seej's pacts.

Hi all,
I wanted to answer the charges. First, yes I attacked Ulm this turn.

Second, I am sending him back his 400 gold for last turn.
For what its worth, I had not intended to keep that $$. Third, there was no warning-ahead clause on our NAP, so I gave none.

Rest easy, oh neighbors of mine with whom I *do* have notification clauses.

Isn't the whole purpose of NAP to get some warnings ahead?

What is the difference between "no warning-ahead clause NAP" and no NAP at all? It seems to me that both are attacking at will.
