Aksumite Longdead for the Forum (I did this guy from scratch, by the way, as are almost all of these-The Opaani and the Oyo Esho's lion I borrowed and modified, and the stelaes, the zebra, the masenqo, the ivory mask, and part of the kabaro I shrunk down and adapted, but everything else is hand-drawn by yours truly :p ):

Re: Aksum -Glory of Kings.
I'm inclined to chime in with lch here. When every other post is junk I do not bother with looking at your sprites and just get a bit annoyed and scroll down to the end. If your sprites were collected in some kind of collage I would probably take a closer look and compare them and appreciate them more.

HB,
Make a single, large (530x460), blank image and copy/paste your units into this image. By doing this, you can fit an estimated 10x10 or 100 unit images. I have attached a blank png and it is only 879bytes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/attac...1&d=1221675447 The size limit for png on the forums is somewhere around 48KB so file size should not be a problem, but the way you are doing it now is not good. :) |
Re: Aksum -Glory of Kings.
That's what I'm having a lot of trouble with, actually getting that image into the *body* of a post-I asked for some help on this a little while back, and never got a satisfactory answer on what code one actually needs to type in, to make it show up. I've read the forum explanation, and it doesn't seem to work. I'm just not getting the hang of it, and I've invested hours into trying to make it happen. I need an "posting images into posts" course for dummies.
If someone will please work with me on this (someone patient with idiots), I'd be more than happy to clean this thread up! I don't like it as messy as it is, but this has been the only way I know to get my stuff out there for everyone to see. |
Re: Aksum -Glory of Kings.
1. Hit the "Post Reply" button, or click on "Go Advanced" in the Quick Reply box
2. Hit the "Manage Attachments" button under "Additional Options" 3. Upload your files, one at a time. You can upload as many files as you want. Yes, more than one. :re: 4. Write something 5. If you want to control where an attachment is placed in the post then click on the paperclip. You'll be presented with a list of uploaded files. The attached file you select will be inserted at exactly the position the cursor is at at that time. If it's an image, it'll get displayed. Even if it's a BMP image, I checked! :smirk: Unused (not inserted) attachments will be appended to the end of the post. I think that's all there is to know. A collage where all the stuff is shown together in the first post would make sense, too. |
Re: Aksum -Glory of Kings.
Thanks for your help, Ich!-I followed your instructions up to #5, but there is absolutely *no* paperclip anywhere to be found. Atleast, I'm not seeing one anywhere.

If you want to display a big attached image then you need to do it like Ballbarian and I did here. After you are done uploading, right click on the image filename in the "Additional Options" / "Attached files" menu below, copy the image URL to the clipboard and paste it when inserting an image (the landscape icon). |
Re: Aksum -Glory of Kings.
Ohhhh....! Ok! The problem was, I had my preferences set to Basic Editor. You have to reset it to the most advanced version, in order to get the little paperclip to even show up. Even if you go into Advanced Editing-and you're still in basic editor-it won't show up.
I feel a lot less stupid now, and can simply focus my ire on the new forum setup, where it properly belongs :) Thanks again, Ich! I just wasn't seeing what you were seeing, and by showing me that, I finally figured it out. |

]Let's see if this works now...If it does, I'll just put these all into the main post, and let you nice monitors clean up the mess I've made. :) My latest, Bahr Negus: Attachment 6877
Woohoo! Ok, now to get everything together in the main post... |
Re: Aksum -Glory of Kings.
I have to apologize to HB, apparently the forum DOES auto-convert pngs to JPG data, maybe based on filesize. Then again, it should do the same to bmps.
|
Re: Aksum -Glory of Kings.
That's alright Ich, you just made up for it by helping me fix most of my image-display problems :)
Can you take a look at the main page and tell me whether everything seems to display for you ok?. Thanks x 3 If it looks ok, could you then delete all the .bmp and .png posts I've put into this thread? That should make it a lot neater, and then I'll just create a few posts for people to download images from. Thanks a million. |
Re: Aksum: Glory of Kings. (Now With Graphics!)
Much better HB!
|
Re: Aksum: Glory of Kings. (Now With Graphics!)
Great! Would it be possible for you to just copy the whole first post into a new thread and get rid of everything else? I got some good comments, but this thread is mostly a junkpile by now-sorry.
|
Re: Aksum: Glory of Kings. (Now With Graphics!)
Make a new thread and I'll lock this one. Deleting posts only makes their text go away, not the posts. Then you'd have 10 pages with about 1-2 comments in them per page.

Re: Aksum: Glory of Kings. (Now With Graphics!)
Will do.
