Game hosting is gonna be delayed a bit and marignon will be taken over by baalz until we hear from homer...he seems to have disappeared and staling twice in a row is less than ideal.

Marignon has summoned 8 kings of elemental fire, so I wouldn't try, you're just wasting your gems.

I thought I would have time to play this game once my work rotation ended and my 5 week vaccation started. Unfortunary beeing on travelling foot it has been more of a chore, so I will be steeping out of this game. My apologies to my team partner.

Marignon is being taken over by unoptimized

Re: Wombat - LA team game. Game on.

High Inquisitor Pious of Marignon went into his private chambers. The prisoners were driven to heights of rage. Assassins were in place to kill those admirals who stood against him. Those loyal to him were ready, and soon command would be his. It was a beautiful plan, but not his.
He sat heavily in his chair, head in his hands, as ghostly figures gathered round him, whispering madness. They spoke of revenge, whispered of dreams.

Re: Wombat - LA team game. Game on.

Pious, your insane plan will never succeed. Caelum will put an end to your unholy magics and demon summoning. Look to Ulm, Abysia, and Pangea if you wish to know what your fate is.

...

Unless of course we are stopped by the treacherous attacks of Tien Chi. We should have known better than to trust a NAP made with those barbarian foreigners.

I gave warning on our teams NAP 3 turns ago...mind you I only sent warning to caelum as far as I remember though I thought that would do. ...wait you are caelum... I did send you warning on our teams NAP three turns ago right?

No, Seej and I haven't received any messages from you or Kortek. Though I understand your uncertainty; I've been wondering whether I accidentally sent my declaration of war to Tien Chi rather than to Atlantis & Marignon. Did you save your outgoing declaration of war?

AdmiralZhao May 6th, 2009 02:59 AM

If you want to make it up, perhaps one of you could go AI? Seej and I fight best against AI opponents. :)

It wasn't through the forums...I sent it in game through the message system (or thought I did) and even though you guys were quiet about it I figured it must have been received since caelum troops started building up on my borders...look at my handy notepad reminder!

"warning given to caelum turn 47
47 48 49
strike for turn 50"

So yeah...if you did not get an in game message on turn 47 then I'm sorry. I'm not going to do anything about it...but I am very sorry because I told Tien that I had given that warning for out team and he was good to go. I do ask that you recheck your turn 47 though...

seej May 6th, 2009 12:33 PM

I just checked my turn 47. No message was received on that turn.

Did you send the message in your turn 46 or your turn 47? Keep in mind that the message will be received on turn 47 or 48 respectively.

Ok, I checked turns 46-49 and no declarations of war (except for Jomon's).

Gah, I am quite sorry and it's completely my bad...I told Kortek that I had canceled the NAP. I was going to send you guys a message of the forums as well in case something like this happened but ended up deciding not to bother (clearly a poor choice).

Since we seem to be falling into world war and the game has reached turn 50, I would be willing to change the hosting interval to 72 hours if there is interest in that. If a couple people request the longer hosting in this thread, we'll go with it. Personally I'm still ok with 48

Wow, what horrid turn. Baalz, could you send me my Tome of High Power back? It belongs with Caelum, not with your invincible army of ice armored toads.

Man I love arssartuts. For some reason they always seem to be underestimated, but they're completely top of the line sacreds IMO, particularly when you consider their deployment mobility from being amphibious and sailing....plus partial darkvision along with mages who can cast darkness. If it's any consolation Gath is sharing the pain. Those guys just hit like a mac truck and don't go down.

Anyway, on to new business. I've been a bit surprised at the apparent lack of concern among most of the nations of the world at Caelum's amazing power concentration. Despite Atlantis' modest success at drawing some blood defending herself, overall Caelum is apparently the only nation not being ground down in the current fighting. For those of you who haven't figured it out yet, Caelum is using the ankh (and their ally) to transform many of their mages and priests into soulless. This has two benefits - 1) Their now undead priests can reanimate free longdead (you've no doubt noticed Caelum's army graph) 2) Their mages no longer have upkeep.

Just think about that for a moment. Caelum has nearly triple the size and income of the next largest nation *AND QUICKLY DISAPPEARING UPKEEP*. Now further realize that there is currently no significant offensive action against Caelum in the foreseeable future of the current fighting. By the time the current fighting resolves Caelum will have 5 times as much income as anyone else (after accounting for upkeep), 10 times as many mages, and 100 times as many troops.

This is not posturing, this is easily verifiable by just looking at the score graph. If the current fighting continues there is only one way this game will end, it's beyond doubt that everyone else is too evenly matched for a quick victory....it's going to be a long, drawn out war with lots of casualties on every side while Caelum's power grows exponentially. I propose an immediate ceasefire for everyone except Caelum and Pythium. Everyone is engaged in fighting now, and I expect there will be significant reluctance on every side to just leave borders where they are right now ("He just took that province!", "I've got an army about to attack!", "My stealth troops are just about to hamstring!", "He took out my ally...it's payback time!" "I just equipped a bunch of guys to teleport in") but realize that what I'm saying is the game is about to be effectively over and all that stuff doesn't matter unless you're willing to just say "screw it, I'm not playing for a win anymore". Realize there is no possible way other than "freeze everything as it is immediately" can be successfully negotiated by all. If your answer is "I'll stop fighting if I get..." then realize that your answer is really "no".

This is what Atlanis proposes, anyone else have a thought?

I agree to this proposition, not only as a...loyal ally...but also to get revenge for the winged one's raiding. Pious will dispense with you creatures.

AdmiralZhao May 13th, 2009 06:48 PM

Re: Wombat - LA team game. Game on.

It is clear that Atlantis' thinking has been warped by too much time spent laying siege to Ryleh. Unless the aggressors return all captured provinces to Patala, Argatha, and Gath, and pay restitution for the immense damage their attacks have caused, then Atlantis is simply asking their opponents to wait patiently for their own turn at the guillotine. Once Caelum and Pythium are destroyed, Atlantis and Utgard will continue partitioning the other nations exactly where they left off. I would also point out that it is somewhat laughable for the owners of the Forge and The Chalice to claim that other nations will only get stronger over time. I know that I would want Atlantis' waves of Angok thugs or Utgard's endless Tartarians over my own legions of incompetent Longdeads.

I'll delay hosting for an additional 48 hours...hopefully zhao shows up

Revolution May 21st, 2009 09:50 PM

Re: Wombat - LA team game. Game on.

Still no sign of admiralzhao, he was last active on the forums a week ago. I have delayed the game another 48hrs. The way I see it we have a few options...we can keep on delaying for a little while longer hoping the zhao shows up again or we hear something about his disappearance. We could try to find a sub/see if Pythium has any suggestions for a caelum sub.

The third option would be to call the game and declare caelum/pythium the winner. Before he started to stale, caelum had this game in the bag. Even now after a couple turns he still looks pretty good...but the way zhao was able to build up and come into his dominant position and somehow gain the support of gath and midgard...pretty much the end result of the game was sealed no matter how hard we fought. Now things have changed, many of caelums leaderless thugs/SC's are dead, and the Utgarde/Tien/Atlantis/Marignon pact is looking somewhat competitive...but it feels a bit unearned.

Throw some opinions out there.

Baalz May 22nd, 2009 10:52 AM

Re: Wombat - LA team game. Game on.

I second the proposal to declare Caelum/Pythium the winner, though I'll keep fighting if the admiral shows up and others still want to.

I'll third the proposal--as for getting our support, well I wasnt sure what to make of it when I saw Atlantis attacking the monkeys--figured it would be a given that we would all go after the birds.

Tired to seeing the long period of peace that seemed to be really benefiting caelum...and irritated after having my well of misery overwritten by Agartha, I contacted atlantis/marignon about banding together to go to war against either Caelum/Pythium who were the team with the clear lead...or against Agartha/Patala because Patala with maelstrom would be clamming like a demon which would eventually lead to lots of unique nation summons that are rather badass and Agartha with well of misery would also mean lots of national SC's and death summons of unpleasant disposition. Atlantis/Mari were up for going to war and they thought that agartha/patala would be a bigger late game threat so we went with that.

Still, you got to Patala, but never really caused any damage to me. And just stood around while Caelum/Pythium has a huge income and landmass under them? True, we might have been a formidable threat if we had gotten globals up sooner than later and Caelum had not been pretty much my ONLY neighbor. I had a small way of getting to midgÄrd and Gath, who were again allied with caelum/pythium, and Marignon, who again was allied with atlantis, and I had water provinces around my nation, so that would've made me an easy raiding target for them.

Hence, I'll vote for Caelum/Pythium to be the winning team. It's a shame to see Caelum start staling at this point of the game, but I've been pretty much of his victory for at least those 10 turns so far. No competitors have arisen for him. Only one who could probably turtle against him easily is Atlantis. I might stand a chance for a while until major battlefield magics (Shimmering fields, flame storms etc) would start pouring in. Or a horde of sc's (single ones I could defend quite easily against) come knocking my doors. I only have something like (with a bit of forging) 50-100 mages capable of casting disintegrate and maybe 10-15 capable of casting petrify, all scattered around my little splat of land admist of Caelum.

I must agree with Baalz. Calum clearly has an upper hand. I don't like the idea of winning because of stales, myself.

So far I have only heard support for declaring for Caelum/Pythium (a course that I too agree with under the circumstances) any opposition to this idea should let themselves be heard before I put an end to the game tonight. It would be nice to hear from Pythium at least...
