Ah, crap, I think I uploaded a pretender with wrong mod... Arf...

EDIT: Ah, good thing the name of the game had changed, the pretender didn't go through :) And now of to design a pretender with the correct mod :)

My new computer w/Vista seems to think that there is no such thing as a savedgames folder in the dominions3 folder. If you want, just start the game up without me since its already been delayed enough.

Vista stores the savedgames in a strange place. It stores it in

C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Pro gram Files \dominions\savedgames

You want the "Jenga2.dm" file form the Jenga_mod_fixed.zip download. :)

I had the same problem a while back. The best solution I've seen is just to re-install the game into a folder not under /program files. The problem seems to be the absolutely outrageous security settings in Vista, which prevent any applications from creating a file under /program files.

So, I just reinstalled the game to C:/ and it worked perfectly.

Thanks SO much ghoul! I doubt I would've found that on my own.

*Never* install games on Vista into C:/Programs folder, even though many games like to suggest that as the default...

Can't find a R'lyeh nation with the new mod (trying a test game). I could be doing something wrong, but they don't show up as a nation for my tests. I turned off all mods, quit, and then restarted. Then turned back on jenga, jenga, Jenga. No R'yleh.

My nation is in. Just worried that this could all fall apart again.

You did turn on the single-age mod too?

It's there. It just lacks the "EA" epiteth (titled 'R'lyeh, time of the Aboleths') and is listed amongst the MA nations due to it's nation number.

Ahh, that's probably it. Thought you had included everything in with the Jenga mod. My bad.

So, only ten players of 13 have come back on. Do we go with a smaller map (I would hate that), or wait a bit?

I thought I (re-)sent my pretender yesterday. Apparently I either did not, or it didn't go through. I'll resend as soon as I get home from work, in less than two hours from now :)

I've contacted the players who yet to send pretenderswith PM. Jarkko will resend and Mictlan player has been busy with work.

I'm going to take charge of R'lyeh. This will leave one spot open in land. I've proposed to Fakey if he'd like to the available land spot. If he declines, we will just play with 9 land players, the map can handle one empty land start.

Re: The Early Days. Bug squished, game on!

Sorry for delaying I had supposed my old pretender would be taken.

Burnsaber September 11th, 2009 08:54 AM

Re: The Early Days. Bug squished, game on!

Ok, the game is started. Everything seems to roll smoothly and I was able to receive and send my turn for R'lyeh fine.

Please note that one of the land starts is now empty and it will give a slight advantage to those nations who start near that empty start. Other nations are highly encouraged to take this advantage into consideration when bondering their diplomacy.

Thanks for everyone for sticking out through the bug-hunting process.

Let's smash some faces.

Yes, that is a mighty fine looking flying cow you have there Baalz. Is it lost though? It seems to be heading straight for the frozen tundra of Niefelheim. What an unforgiving place that would be for an oversized cow, even a flying one.

The Mind Lords find your message lacking as much in logic as in capital letters. How could your kind not know the difference between mammals and fish, not even with all of the first hand experience from living in the ocean? And your kind would attemp to eat a cursed titaness with a hybrid form, without any kind of natural resistance to poison? We Mind Lords are perplexed on how your kind could have survived without anykind of knowledge on how to breed or eat safely. All other species we have encountered seem to at least have an basic grasp on those two things, no matter how lowly creatures they may be.

Truly, this only assures us of why you people need to be lobotomized and enslaved. The difference in brain activity will be neglible and you'd be a great deal more useful for the world as whole. If you surrender now, we'll make the procedure as painless as possible.

We admit that the strenght of your heretical blessings took us by suprise, but know that your victory is shallow and meaningless, for she'll be back. With vengeance. We invite you to invade us. Gaze upon the armies of R'lyeh and see your future as mindless automatons.

Shukal, The Lord of Minds, Herald of the Fallen Queen.

Just a bit of a slowdown down here in the frozen tundra. The geography is a bit challenging for getting out and about.

Yeah, I have that problem, too. (Besides the great conans being owned by indies).

Talk about difficult terrain and nasty indies... When you have to march back and forth to the capital the first turns to just be able to move out, the going gets pretty slow. Happily Sonni the Great is able to lead the men of Marverni to greatness from battle to battle!

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Before the torch bearing mob starts forming I did want to point out that as big and scary as my province count score graph is, my handicapped starting position has had it's desired effect. Province count in and of itself is meaningless - in all the other score graphs I'm firmly middle of the pack. I dumped a lot of design points into a very aggressive start to get out of the desert, so my power curve is not as scary as it otherwise would be. Plus, the Shedu is actually a warm and loving guy, known to give rides to children. Nothing to fear here...

Yeah, tell me about it. It's like... take a prov, then march back to the cap, so you can march two turns to take another prov. I love the look of this map, but the terrain is a beating.

So you are thinking the only thing that could stop you now is a torch bearing mob? :D

Sorry, should have warned you guys about that. But I thought that everyone would notice the weird geography right away while testing.

But I guess the special start was enough to keep Niefelehim in check. As for Hinnom...

Phew almost missed the turn. For some reason I can't seem to get the game running on my laptop at home without it looking for the ma_ryleh.tga file or something, had to drop by the office.

On the other hand prime Shedu beef is delicious, especially when it has been raised with large dosages of astral salts and liberal helpings of chunky earth.

The prophet scout sent to us wasn't as palatable, but our eagle warriors didn't particular care as they tore him apart.

Man. Am I being punished for starting in between hinnom and neifel or something? I have one of the largest quantities of land, but practically no income. And I can guarantee, that is not the fault of my scales. Almost every province I've taken has less than 3k pop :(. Too late to complain I guess, but it would have been nice to have some sort of compensation for starting in one of the most dangerous positions on the map. I guess I should just be grateful I am not mictlan.

Lingchih September 21st, 2009 01:14 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Neither Tir nor Mictlan should fear the giants of Niefel. We are a peaceful nation, seeking only to carve out our little corner of frigid land, so that the Niefels can rise again. The little peoples do not intimidate us. But we will not tolerate the heretics of Hinnom coming to our land.

shard September 21st, 2009 07:04 AM

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Yes be grateful - whoever gets this juicy spot is cornered between the sea and two of the 'powers'.

However do come west, while Hinnom and I are running troops past each other rushing and counter-rushing, i'm sure he wouldn't miss a few of his many outlying provinces. Theres no cow to graze on them anymore anyway.

That sounds like a R'yleh map icon issue to me. Have you checked to see if you have the "standards and streamers" and/or "llamabanners" mods installed on your laptop? Or indeed all the mods for this specific game that could have changed the default R'yleh icon?

If all else fails, then perhaps just copy the entire contents of your Dominions folder at work onto your laptop. Dominions is not a harddrive hungry game, so it should easily fit onto a 1GB USB stick.

But either way don't suffer with this problem, as it should be an easy enough thing to solve with a little feedback and help (from any of the many helpful souls on these forums :))

Re: The Early Days. Game running.

Neifelheim, under the burden of a heavy growth in population, has decided to annex the southernnmost Hinnom lands, and, that annexation has already begun. Nations neighboring these provinces would be best served by staying put. Our Jarls are rather indiscriminate in who they kill, once they have been ordered to take a province.
