Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Great, but it would still be nice to find a sub for niefel, who isn't showing any lifesigns. And maybe stop the timer so his greedy neighbours just don't take over his lands. (sorry guys :) )

OK - I postponed hosting. Let's try to find a sub.

Also I enabled PMs if anyone wants to send me a message. Not sure why they make it so difficult -- should be on by default!

There are two places to post. One is the seeking new player/game sticky thread. The other is just a new topic in the general multiplayer forum. If you like, I could write something up around lunch time here (3hrs or so). Or if anyone knows a new player looking for a game?

Agreed on PMs, also think save sent PMs should be default. Turn that off when it becomes a problem. I like to look at what I sent someone, far more accurate than what I think I remember sending. And if you preview message it turns off save sent sgain.

I'm pretty newbie and looking for a game. I wouldn't mind subbing.

Ok - you're in. The name of the game is actually Lets_Try_Again, and you are playing Niefelheim.

pm me your email address.

Or you could just do that. Nicely done. :)

Welcome Papastoss!

Hi guys, I am again back home. As I told you, I was out because of work and have been unable to conect to the internet since last sunday. I am sorry about that, but i tried everything with no success.
Anyway, i fully understand why you did look for a sub. Sorry and have fun :).

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [BACK IN ACTION!]

Thanks for the reply kelpa. Gets you a big thumbs up in my book. Unfortunately you don't know what to expect out of folks on the net, so we had to try and find a replacement. I'd gladly include you in another game in the future.

Patolixo February 23rd, 2010 08:17 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [BACK IN ACTION!]

Hey folks, may I request a 12 hour delay? I couldn't do my turn last night due to internet issues, and will only be able to do it after I get home from work, which would be around 22:10 GMT.

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [BACK IN ACTION!]

Astyreal, can you edit the OP with the Papastoss as the new Niefelheim player. If anyone wants to PM him, they'll need his name. You must have had a couple of thoughts running through your head at the same time there. ;)

Patolixo February 23rd, 2010 07:32 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [BACK IN ACTION!]

Actually, I think I am putting my position up for a sub. I will play my turns until we can find one, but real life is being pretty hard on me lately, and I just can't give two games the full attention they deserve. Astyreal, can you please uptade the OP and thread title to advertise that we are looking for a sub for Helheim?

13lackGu4rd February 25th, 2010 02:55 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [BACK IN ACTION!]

maybe we can bring the previous owner of Niefelheim(who came back recently) as a sub for Helheim this time. yeah he'll get a bit of an unfair advantage by knowing how Niefelheim was designed, but I don't think it'll matter too much, and I don't think Helheim and Niefelheim are neighbors or anything either...

Astyreal February 28th, 2010 10:28 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [BACK IN ACTION!]

Hi Guys, am on vacation so unable to pay close attention to the thread.

Also asking for a 12hr hour postponement and to move the interval to 48 hrs until I return (Saturday).

As stated in the title, we need a sub for Helheim. He's been an active player to date but needs to drop out due to real life considerations. PM me if you are interested!

One of my favourite nations when I last played, thats some 3 years ago though... Hopefully I'll remember a few weaknesses I can use against you ;) Though they have few :cold:

Thanks everyone, and sorry for dropping out. Real life can be a drag sometimes, I hope I get to meet you on the battlefield again soon!

Real life : a polite way of making some sort of allusion to :

An imperious boss who thinks you're his "censored" because he can make you jobless.

A possesive wife who thinks you're her "censored" because she can make you homeless.

Just kidding, see you soon in a bloodbath. :)

Did the patch add score graphs?

13lackGu4rd March 13th, 2010 07:49 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

wasn't supposed to... score graphs are part of the game setting, not a bug or anything like that...

Stagger Lee March 13th, 2010 09:20 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

Graphs are on. If there is no other explanation, this should be reported as a bug in the patch process. Is there another explanation?

13lackGu4rd March 14th, 2010 12:01 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

graphs are still off for me. are you sure you're looking at the same game? if for some reason they are actually on for you than this is some weird bug, and in order to keep the fairness I'd suggest you to ignore them, as they're obviously unavailable to everyone else.

Stagger Lee March 14th, 2010 12:22 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

Sorry, I should have been more specific. Score tables for this game are now available on llamaserver. I'd have a hard time believing they are only available to me.

13lackGu4rd March 14th, 2010 12:26 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

oh, thought you meant in game score graphs... not much we can do about Llamaserver's score tables, they're always available...

Stagger Lee March 14th, 2010 12:45 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

They weren't available last week.

I'm in another game on llamaserver with graphs off, Mists of Time, which hasn't hosted with the patch yet. Score tables are not available for that game. I'm thinking they will show up for the first time on turn 85. Potentially game changing information.

Stagger Lee March 15th, 2010 11:21 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

My other graphs off game just hosted. Score tables are now available for that game on llama. They weren't there 2 hours ago.

Astyreal, I'm sorry. This was one of your settings, but the patch seems to have reset it on the server. I PM'd Llamabeast about this yesterday, but I doubt he's had time to look into it. I don't know if it was a problem with the patch, the server, or the process, but barring any other changes, I think we should just make sure everyone knows that the score tables are up on llama and play on.

What do you think?

13lackGu4rd March 16th, 2010 03:26 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

well, I don't see any reason for us top stop playing... graphs are on llamaserver now, like many wanted in the first place, so just play along...

Yeah, I'm not talking about quitting the game over this. It just feels like you and I are the only ones reading any of this and may be the only two who know that this information is now available. It sort of feels like the genie has been let out of the bottle. I guess I just want to hear from a few more people that they are aware of where to find the score tables on llama, so that there is no balance issue.

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

I have some scouts, but the general situation of some players surprised me completely.

Num March 17th, 2010 12:25 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

Hello,
I do not really care if the stats are available or not. It helps me I guess, because I am a complete beginner and I like to know where I stand. I do not have so much scouts. But stats or not make no difference for me.

GameExtremist March 18th, 2010 03:01 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

Yes, I noticed the graphs just after the patch was applied, so I'm good.

I'd like to Thank Krec for the past two years of challanging warfare, the result is now a foregone conclusion.

Your chariots and Melquats really had me worried in the first year or so of the war, until we found a counter and sufficient troop numbers to counter them. I think if you had headed straight for my capital rather then rampaging through the Ulmish countryside for the past 2 years and leaving a small amount of PD behind in the conquered provinces would have helped your cause greatly.

Cheers
GE

GameExtremist March 24th, 2010 11:05 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

I'm pretty sure Krec (hinnom) is out of the game he staled at least the last 4 turns without explanation - and also in Multiera Mithril Might he has staled the same amount too http://www.llamaserver.net/doAdminAc...ion=showstales

Theres not much point in getting a sub as he has one province and a small army that I've cornered in it, I was going to let it sit there and have his soldiers desert due to lack of gold (11gp per turn) rather then waste troops but its getting irritating waiting for the same player when everyone else has submitted way before the timer, therefore I am going to end Hinnoms game next turn.

So what I am asking is now that everyone else has submitted can we host the turn now? Rather then wait another 24hrs?

Astyreal March 29th, 2010 08:52 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

I postponed 24 hrs due to an Internet outage (using my iPhone now). Turns all done but can't connect.

Humakty March 31st, 2010 03:02 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

I'm going AI on turn 38, discount on our provinces, everyone welcome ! We've got fresh blood slaves to free (they feel so lonely in their dungeon), tons of gorgeous sites, and great grasslands oozing with cash.

All agreements are of course void, in case anyone wondered !

It was a fun first PBEM experience, but the pace is really too slow for my liking.

13lackGu4rd March 31st, 2010 03:41 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

don't go AI... look for a sub and play until you can find 1. the pace of this game is pretty normal, no reason to complain about it, but if you prefer fast blitz games than so be it... but don't just turn AI because of "pace" it's very unsportsmanlike, and looking for a sub is the obvious better choice unless you're dying, lost your cap, etc...

Astyreal March 31st, 2010 08:52 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

Well it is with a heavy heart that I am withdrawing from this contest. Before you raise the general hue and cry I am in a very poor position, with no real chance of winning. I don't think it's really worth finding a sub at this point.

I had every intention of sticking around this fight but unfortunately events conspired against me. My internet access went out for days, and then my right mouse button of my mouse went out. Sounds ridiculous but when you are trying to keep to a turn pace it's an obstacle. I put in a couple of postponements but it wasn't enough. Now I've staled a couple of turns and I think it's time to call it a day.

I very much enjoyed the game, and I intend on seeing you all back out there again soon. As soon as I buy a new damn mouse.

PS my early arco strategy was an abject failure. It was a pure mage based strategy posted by Baalz. I'm sure he can pull it off swimmingly but it was way too advanced for me. It would have been far better to pick a more straightforward strategy and learn from there. Next time!

Are you going to continue as admin? I could take a stab at it. I have no experience, but I suppose you have to start somewhere. If there is anyone more qualified, please speak up.

Thanks for the game, and good luck. :)

Humakty April 1st, 2010 02:20 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

I can't find any reasons to continue the fight myself, the pace is only a factor among many others.

At least I set myself AI, it will give more problem to my opponent than just stalling away !

Astyreal April 1st, 2010 06:33 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [GOOD AGAIN!]

I can continue to admin, no problem at all.
