Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I'm willing to give Odeoderok the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't intentional. The widely different outcome of those two battles before and after the rollback drastically changed the dynamic of our war, however, and I'm honestly not sure how to address that. I do, however, appreciate Odeoderok's offer to try to make amends.

As for rolling back again, I'm not sure I understand the mechanics of a rollback well enough to know if that would fix things. Does the Llamaserver keep old turns around?

I would recommend as good practice saving copies of all your old .trn and .2h files around for every game, just in case something gets messed up or corrupted. It's a little bit of extra work to do, but it can come in handy (as we see here) and also lets one review a whole game retrospectively if so desired.

odeoderok November 8th, 2010 05:00 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I found my original .2h file in gmail, so I can re-submit that if we do another roll back. I also noticed that the outcome of the battle I originally asked about way back was the same before and after the roll back to turn 15, so I was wrong in the first place as well. I can only say there's no accounting for stupidity :sorry:

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I appreciate everyone's honesty and integrity in this, as well as Ragnars Wolves' suggestion to roll back again and give odeoderok the chance to use his original turn 15. Thank you for being a great bunch of players!

Since this issue primarily affects mockingbird and the rest of us are using the same turn file anyway, I'm inclined to leave the decision up to him. Provided there are no objections, of course.

So, are there any objections?

mockingbird, how would you like to proceed?

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

DON'T ANYBODY SUBMIT A TURN iuntil we resolve this please.

mockingbird November 8th, 2010 08:15 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

If rolling back again is possible, then I am in favor of that.

Ragnars Wolves November 8th, 2010 08:28 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Lets do it...give the word General Groungworm and we will clear are folders in anticipation!!!!!

Mockingbird, that is the choice I would have made also, for what it is worth:up:

Well, everyone else has sent thier turn in so I guess I will also.

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

The vote is in to roll the turn back once more. Are there any objections? If not, I'll roll the turn back (hopefully for the final time) this afternoon.

Let me know.

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I don't have a problem with the rollback just a question. Once we rollback again do I need to send in my origional Helheim turn setting it to ai?

Ragnars Wolves November 9th, 2010 09:34 AM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

File cleared sir, ready:up:

My understanding is that you shouldn't, as you've already sent the turn in, and it's the most recent turn llamaserver has on file for Helheim turn 15. So it should just default to that file and carry out the actions in it, which is "go AI controlled".

I think.

mockingbird November 9th, 2010 12:37 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Am I correct in understanding that once we do the rollback, the only nation which needs a new turn file is Mictlan (which should be the old turn 15 file before the first rollback)?

Allium November 9th, 2010 01:03 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

That is correct.

odeoderok November 9th, 2010 01:19 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Yes, I'm ready to send it in as soon as the turn rolls back.

Ragnars Wolves November 10th, 2010 07:19 AM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I think we are ready for the rollback

Groundworm November 10th, 2010 10:44 AM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I know. Have been busy with work, didn't get a chance to do it until now.

Turn rolled back, will force host once Mictlan resubmits.

Ragnars Wolves November 10th, 2010 02:22 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

So, we don't do anything and wait for the force host to turn 16 if I am correct.

I cleared out my entire Sharpaxe folder as that worked well for me last time.

odeoderok November 10th, 2010 04:30 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Ok, turn submitted. I hope to God I got it right this time!

Groundworm November 10th, 2010 06:46 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Thank you, odeoderok. Turn force-hosted, 16 should be incoming any moment.

Hopefully this will be the last turn 16 we need to play!

mockingbird November 10th, 2010 09:07 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

This time it looks correct. Thank you all for your patience and cooperation.

I know this Thanksgiving holiday isn't celebrated anywhere except the USA, but we view it as a time to say thanks for family and friends, and the things we have, whether they be great or small.

I just wanted to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family:)

(OK, now that is over, let the fighting continue)

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Two things:

1) At peoples' request, I've extended the turn timer to 48 hours.

2) What are peoples' views on subs honoring or not honoring preexisting NAPs from the original players? Is this bad form, or is it legit?

GrudgeBringer November 28th, 2010 12:13 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Not knowing all the diplomatic things that went on I would say that the norm is something along these lines.

When a sub takes over either he usually asks for any existing nations that have a diplomatic status (War, Nap, Mutual defense pact etc) to restate thier agreements.

IF, he doesn't then I would think that the person who has any of those agreements, would surely let the new player know.

I personally don't think if no one has said anything to each other that you can hold them to an agreement that they didn't know about. That could be construed as 'waiting to see what happens so you could keep options open' or something similar to that I guess.

Not my game, but we had that same situation happen more than once and that was the concensus in some other games. I guess if you would ask 10 people you would get about 4 different answers.

NOW, if he knew about them in no uncetain terms, that is a different ballgame and all should be held accountable. Is this a game where Naps are honered, or one that you make them at your own risk. Since it is a Noob game, I would think that most would say they should be honored.....agian, this is ONLY an opinion as it isn't my game. I just was reading forums as I was bored.

Drog the Destroyer November 29th, 2010 01:38 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

My 2 cents.

If he didn't confirm the preexisting NAPs, I think it's legit.

I would like an extension of the turn over christmas, if it was due the 28th it would be perfect.

Thanks in advance and merry christmas

Extension granted until 12/28. Happy holidays!

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Gentlemen,

We all seem to be in most of the same games, and they are getting to the end game stage. Does anybody else agree that perhaps this game can be moved to 72 hour turns, at the least 60. Raw Recruits is taking a massive amount of time as is this one. I am having a problem just getting this turn in in as I just noticed it was due in 8 more hours as I have to work tonight. Extensions are getting tedious for some players i would think.

Opinions?

Allium January 6th, 2011 05:38 PM

Fine with me.

Groundworm January 7th, 2011 03:35 AM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I have no objection. I'll extend the turn timer to 72 hours and delay this turn so that Ragnars can complete it.

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Sub needed for Sauromatia. The player of Sauromatia (Ragnars Wolves) has had an unfortunate series of real-life events that have pulled him immediately and indefinitely away from Dominions.

As far as I can tell, Sauromatia is in a very good position, ranking close to the top or on top in province count, dominion, research, and gem production. The game is in turn 56 and is at end-midgame to late game. To my knowledge, Sauromatia currently has good relations with all other nations. You would be subbing into a position of strength, though the game is still very competitive.

Please PM me and let me know if interested.

Found a sub- welcome rabelais, the new pretender of Sauromatia! Thanks for subbing, rabelais, and welcome to the game!

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Trying to get in touch with the original player, but if you all would send me ingame (or pm) diplo status summaries it would make things a lot easier, esp as ragnars has his hands full otherwise.

Ok going to look at the turn

what do you folks want to do about the error? hope against hope it was a llamaserver timing snafu that bollixed someones .2h?

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

It seems to be a general llamaserver problem, I guess for now we just wait until it's fixed:

I've needed to extend the turn timer for the last few turns. Do we need to go up to 4 day hosting time?

rabelais March 9th, 2011 01:23 AM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I think it wouldn't be a bad idea, but I'm the new guy, so I'll let the Old Guard decide.

I'm okay with it.

With increasing the turn timer, I mean.

Groundworm March 11th, 2011 06:28 AM

Right, that's 3 out of 5, majority rules. Turn timer will be extended to 96 hours effective next turn.

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Kinda awkward at this stage, but had a death in the family and I think my position, as badly as I have played it would be better in anothers hands.

Will do my best to keep up, but won't have much computer access for a few weeks. just when I had actually started to fight too.

Groundworm May 18th, 2011 10:41 AM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Sorry, just saw the last post. I'm sorry to hear about the death in your family, rabelais, and I hope everything is going as well as possible.

So, with Sauromatia out, that basically leaves... me and Caelum, with roughly equal chances of winning the game, I'd say. Allium, I don't know how easy it would be to find a sub for Sauromatia at this point; it would be a large investment of time for someone to take over a non-dominant position.

I'm willing to declare the game over, and call it a dual victory. Or we can fight it out. What do you think?

mockingbird May 18th, 2011 02:32 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

If you want to keep going, the IRC channel is a good place to find a sub.

Allium May 19th, 2011 01:26 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Having conceded one super-long slugfest already, I'd like to see what happens in this one for a few turns more at least.

mockingbird May 19th, 2011 03:15 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

I'm also willing to sub for Sauromatia myself. I really have no idea what's been happening outside of my capitol for the last 20 turns or more, so I don't think I have any unfair information about the game.

Groundworm May 19th, 2011 04:19 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

mockingbird raises a good point... I don't think he has any undue information about what's going on in the rest of the world.

Having him sub for Sauromatia sounds like an excellent solution. What do you think, Allium?

Allium May 19th, 2011 10:00 PM

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Fine with me.

mockingbird May 20th, 2011 02:39 PM

Then an admin should send me the turn file. :)

In the unlikely event that Hinnom is still alive next turn, I will set it to AI.

Re: SharpAxe (for newbish players)- running

Turn sent, mockingbird. Welcome (back) to the game!

rabelais, if you could give mockingbird any information on your current situation, it would be much appreciated.
