Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Wow, I was attempting to make a joke and I guess I got taken seriously. :)

The thing Shinuyama should ask themselves is, do they just want to stop Pythium from winning, or do they want to actually win themselves? Because there is no way to prevail over Pythium without incurring terrible losses -- and then some other nation will go on to win (probably Caelum). On the other hand, attacking some smaller nation to gain territory and build up strength puts Shinuyama in a much better position to actually win the game. Sure, Pythium might grow stronger in the meantime but that's only a risk, not a guaranteed loss.

Not that I expect this advice to be heeded. But win or lose, it looks like I'm likely to have some interesting action this game, so I'm pretty happy about it.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

yeah - this has been one of my most enjoyable MP games.

Seriously though Mockingbird, do you care to comment on your meteoric research and gem accumulation rates?

mockingbird December 27th, 2011 01:45 PM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

I don't know if there's anything really to explain.

Forts = mages = research

Provinces + sight searching = gems

I think I'm actually low on gem income for the number of provinces, actually, although I haven't done a real calculation. You might notice that I'm not that the top of the graph.

He follows troops and does not cast spells since you didn't tell him 'Cast spells'. So if there's no archer to hide behind, he'll naturally follow the lone soldier and go hand to hand, or go hand to hand if there' noone to stay behind. For fun effect, try to script a mage with hold*2, raise skeleton, hold*2, cast and some other mage forward with stay behind troops. Look at what they do before and after the skeleton is raised.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

No, the default behavior for a mage with orders "Stay behind troops" is to cast spells. The only reason he didn't cast was because the Harbringer had fire immunity from his sword, so fire spells weren't going to do much.

From what I could tell, he wasn't standing behind the rearmost soldier; he was charging into the melee as best he could.

Your comment about the skeleton reminds me of something hilarious that happened once in another game. Some elephants of mine were retreating, and worked their way behind my lines. My commanders (set to stay behind troops) all ran to greet them and got flattened.

i ve set back the 36h turn length with 72h for the next turn.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Yay, we're back in business!

Now all I need is a "cast flaming death to mages hiding on the back row of the battlefield" spell!

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Llama's server has some problem sending turn, so most of us will have to request his turn.

No, I have this problem too.

Bullock January 3rd, 2012 11:03 AM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Aaah too bad :(
On my side i didn't get any troubles with the turn request.

I postponed the game for 24h so nobody will stall because of this (temporary?) issue.

Immaculate January 3rd, 2012 12:00 PM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

i got it working now.

Ouch Bgifu; ouch!

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

OK, this game is making less and less sense...

Why is every one of my attackers getting Soul Slayed when they attempt to strike a Queen of Elemental Air? Is this yet another bizzare CBM effect?

Oh, nevermind, it's the Aegis, ouch. Ummm... well, this game is kind of over.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Hey do you think it's easy to become a true god ?
Pythium is only the first step to the ascension :)

And it's a 3V1 atm ... just try to resist as much as you can ! grab some time.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Yes, that's my plan, I'm just trying to slow him down...

Hi
I know this is a little last minute, can you please postpone the game for 2-3 hours. I just need a bit more time to submit my turn. Thanks

I will turn Anaconda AI if he is still stalling this turn.

mockingbird January 8th, 2012 05:36 PM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

I have to object to turning him AI, as that will greatly undermine my position and alter the game significantly.

If he has dropped out, then we should find a sub.

Bullock January 8th, 2012 06:26 PM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

alright i will try to find a sub for few days but if we don't find one i will turn him AI (unless he shows up ofc)

krpeters January 8th, 2012 06:59 PM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Heh, Agartha going AI wouldn't affect you that much -- I'm pretty tied up at the moment, you'd just have to divert a handful of forces to clean up his provinces.

Anaconda January 9th, 2012 08:23 AM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

I am back from the holiday.

Dont turn Agartha AI. It would only confuse the diplomatic situation.

mockingbird January 9th, 2012 01:38 PM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Something I should have learned already but apparently did not: double check your turns carefully, especially if you expect a big battle to be coming up, lest you end up losing a battle you should have won.

This game is going in the "interesting times" direction. At least it won't be dull. :)

Bullock January 9th, 2012 02:03 PM

i'm pissed my spy died before the battle i saw nothing.

Gratz Imma !

Immaculate January 10th, 2012 11:39 AM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

So mockingbird,

My battle replay shows you winning the battle (barely) but the stats say i won. In the battle replay many of your communion slaves died but in the stats none of your commanders were lost.

I know this is a known bug but i thought i would share with you anyway.

Bullock January 10th, 2012 01:18 PM

i hate when it happens, i would be interested to know if you have seen the same thing mockingbird.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Ahhh, finally something worked! And better than I expected -- it's a sweet surprise when mage fatigue works to your advantage.

Too bad poison golems are not so easy to roast.

Immaculate January 12th, 2012 01:37 AM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

sweet use of a battlefield wide spell krpeters and very nice damage even as you were routing. i now love that spell. Hopefully you've stopped and reversed the pythium advance.

Bullock January 12th, 2012 05:24 AM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Yeah nice one, at last those theurgs paid back :)

krpeters January 13th, 2012 02:42 AM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Wow, judging by the score graphs, there have been some fantastic battles waged this turn.

As for stopping Pythium's advance... I've pummelled his lead army, but I see no way to take any territory back. Any army I put to field is likely to get exterminated by a teleporter. I guess I could risk it and hope his teleporters are busy elsewhere, he certainly has enough enemies.

BTW, has anyone noticed that Caelum is looking a bit dangerous?

Immaculate January 13th, 2012 12:34 PM

Yeah, and he finally killed dr. spock.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Ooops, I just discovered recruiting 0g ettin is frowned upon. Not that I have many, but I was planning to fill my castles with them for defense :) OK, there are some knights nearby, I'll send them to get slaughtered. Unless anyone knows of another good way to kill them off?

Bullock January 15th, 2012 08:16 PM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Did you manage to get rid of them ?

The merchant guild of Ryleh is looking for N gems and can trade F A E D for them.

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

I have to say i am really enjoying this game. Ice devils and pythium communions are really making this game interesting. I think i went into this in a 'beginner' or 'beginner-intermediate' but the lessons i have learned from mockingbird and bgifu and others have really improved my game. thanks to everyone who is making this so much fun.

Bullock January 20th, 2012 06:52 AM

Re: Colonial Conquest - MA - (Running)

Yeah this game is indeed a nice one with nice players. I read MA ryleh was low but they are quite good in fact, much fun playing them. I'm sure this game is going to be even better as it goes forward ;)

Someone told you MA R'lyeh was weak? They are very strong. Particularly if they don't have to contest the water. ;)

Finally, yes. It's not easy to walk them to indies to kill when Pythium keeps dropping SCs on the provinces in between :)

I may need some more time for this turn as well, if you would be so kind.

Thanks!

I do in fact have a suggestion for dealing with your Aegis problem: stop invading my lands. :)
