or turn him AI. this guy named AI has many spare time and can sub in immediately, however not too smart and not a fan of diplomacy.

Hmmm....I said hi to him and offered greetings and he starts stalling. I always have that effect on people. :(

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

I'm against turning Shinuyama AI- that will greatly alter the balance of power in favor of anyone who was near him, as he's probably already taken provinces that would effectively become free provinces for his neighbors.

However, if it's what everyone wants to do rather than looking for a sub, then I'll abide by that decision. At the least, we should delay the current turn until we decide so that Shinuyama doesn't stale again.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

I dont mind waiting for a sub.

earcaraxe February 28th, 2012 01:47 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

i think its a good idea, to decide the circumstance under we switch to AI. for instance "wait 24 hrs for a sub, then turn AI on if nobody applies". this prevents most anxiety/discontent. (the psychologist speaks from me)

Zywack February 28th, 2012 01:55 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

I'm an extremely new player and I've never played multiplayer before (or CBM for that matter), but I'd be interested in taking the sub position if it is indeed open. I definitively can't promise anything performance or challenge-wise: I'm wouldn't be terribly confident with my own nation/pretender so I'm even less when taking over another's, but what I can promise is that I won't stall my turns and that I'll fight until the bitter end. At least it would be better than the AI taking over (Hopefully :))

Welcome Aboard! I think that's a good solution. We've got some noobs already in the game.

Zywack: YOu'll want to change your profile to turn on Private Messaging.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Oops, it should be enabled now. I read the FAQ on how to send/receive turns, but I'm not certain on what needs to be done if I am to take over someone's place. In order, what I need to do in order is:

1) Download the 3 mods, install them and enable them whenever I want to play a turn.
2) PM Yskonyn my e-mail so that I can receive the current turn.
3) Send my turn using the same e-mail so that I will receive the new turns automatically in my inbox.

Correct?

Yes...Making sure you put the game name in the subject. I believe that is it.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

welcome zywak.

i think all players should basically agree to a NAP5 so that zywak, who bailed the game out of a big mess, can get squared away.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

by the way zywak, im one of the newbies. nice to have another inept aboard. good luck

Wow guys, big kaboom here! Sorry I did not reply earlier.

But Zywack saved the day! Welcome! Don't you worry, though, there are more noobs in the game (me being one too). ;)
It's all about learning and having fun. You're brave to take over someone else's nation and indeed we hereby install a Non Agression Pact for 5 turns, preventing any hostilities from the players in this game towards your empire for 5 turns. Great idea, parone.

I have received your email. I will sub you for Recon.

Yskonyn February 28th, 2012 05:40 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Oh, guys; disregard the message you got from llama please.
ONLY Shinu has received their turn again.

I did not know you could single out nations to resend a turn.
Zywack, please let us know if you got the turn.

legowarrior February 28th, 2012 06:45 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Cool, glad that the sub worked out so quickly! Your are great Zywack. You get a free NAP from me!

Zywack February 28th, 2012 07:11 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

I did get the turn, but...

Let me put it this way: I completely understand why the other player stopped playing. I'll explain at a later date exactly what I received, but that's all you'll get for now. :)

By the way, I'll DEFINITIVELY take the NAP from everyone. I can't play my turn at this exact moment, but I should have it submitted in 3 hours or so.

Yskonyn February 28th, 2012 07:31 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Great stuff, Zywack. You're making us curious now.

Please remember that we are currently still on a 24h hosting schedule, so once a turn has been sent out by llamaserver, you have 24hrs to submit your new one before it will autohost and stale your turn.

If you need a delay due to whatever reason and you cannot make the 24hrs limit, please PM me or let it be known here in this thread.
The earlier you do this, the better I will be able to coordinate.

Zywack February 28th, 2012 08:59 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Turn sent! I got confirmation e-mail that the turned seemed fine, so I guess we are back on track!

By the way, is there any way I can check in-game what flag represents which nation? I'm not used to the flag mod, and I can't check under statistics to know which flag represent who so if there's another way to tell, I'd welcome it.

No worries about the 24h turns: I don't have anything on the calendar for now that'd prevent me from taking my turn. I'll be sure to inform you as soon as I can if something does pop up, though!

parone February 28th, 2012 09:06 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

go to the reports menu, and click on pretenders. it will show the flags and if you click on them it tells you the nation.(this is more or less right, you may have to look around a bit-its where the graphs would be, although they are disabled in this game)

Groundworm February 29th, 2012 02:18 AM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Allow me to add my thanks for subbing into what sounds like an intriguingly terrible position, Zywack, and welcome aboard.

Please note: NAPs in Dom3 (a NAP-5, for instance) usually don't indicate a 5-turn agreement not to attack. They usually indicate an indefinite agreement between 2 nations to take no offensive action against each other until one party breaks the NAP. At that time, each nation must wait at least 5 turns before taking any aggressive action (military, magic, or economic). Doesn't always have to be a NAP-5, either... in my experience, NAP-3s are more common.

Yskonyn February 29th, 2012 05:05 AM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Ah, right, thanks for clearing that up, Groundworm! :)
We will go by your description then, to prevent confusement in other games.

Zywack February 29th, 2012 08:38 AM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Got it parone, thanks. I had tried right-clicking while on that page but not left-clicking...

Regarding the NAP... I'm completely aware I'm really shooting myself in the foot by saying this, but wouldn't a NAP-5 be a bit too 'slowing' for the game in general? I'll leave that up to you, but I'd certainly be fine with a global NAP-3 instead of an NAP-5 (unless negociated otherwise).

If it would be better for the game itself, I'd even be fine with a simple 3 turn enforced peace: It might be better for everyone involved, and then things could be negociated as normal. I'll leave it up to you guys, though!

parone February 29th, 2012 01:52 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

zywack, take the NAP5. my guess as to your situation, you need every bit of it.

if you think it's too long, just sneak attack!!

Funny, Dorky thing...

i tease my girlfriend all the time about the vapid tv shows she watches to unwind(re:glee). her standard, good natured response is, "go play with your dwarves and giants". now, this was back when i was trying to learn the game in SP.

the other day, she was rubbing my shoulders while i downloaded a turn for this MP game, and she saw the title to our game.

she just tore me up! but alas, i suppose i desevered it.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

It's probably not the right place to ask this, but since it's just a general public trade offer that applies to everyone and I'd rather not delay for an additional turn for the in-game messaging...

I'm looking to trade up fire or death gems for nature gems at a 1-1 ratio. Please post here with the quantity and type you are willing to trade: All trades will be done with the first offers until all the gems are traded. I have 8 fire gems and 8 death gems I'm willing to trade.

parone: You most certainly did deserve it :)
Although I can't help but notice that while there's a whole lot of giants, I haven't seen a single dwarf... So maybe you didn't deserve it that much!

that i did.

there are some burgermeister guards on my border, but i suppose they are more halflings than dwarves...but such fine distinctions would likey just draw more ridicule from my better half

Agreed on the 5 fire gem trade

Zywack March 1st, 2012 09:33 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

I'd like confirmation regarding if the global NAP toward mighty Shinuyama is in fact global. I'd like to know which of the following it is:

1) There's a global NAP-3 with Shinuyama considering I replaced a player who has been absent multiple turns.
or
2) There's no NAP: It's been suggested but not implemented.
or
3) There's a NAP, but considering it's "As long as trades are fullfilled, everything goes" diplomacy, it really doesn't mean anything.

Considering one of my neighboor's action and positioning, I'd be extremely useful for me to know which of the three options it is ASAP. I'll deal as best as I can no matter which of the three options it is, but I'd really appreciate knowing which it is.

I'm looking for 6 Nature Gems. I'll trade fire or Astral for them, one to one.

Zywack March 1st, 2012 11:21 PM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

It's much appreciated, legowarrior! Thank you very much!

I've sent the new turn already and I might be unable to get on until late next night so do not send me gems for trade as I'm unlikely going to be able to modify my turn. This exclude Vanheim since you should have received my fire gems already so I'm expecting the natures next turn :)

At this time I have a good source of Fire and not much need. I don't use too much blood magic in general.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

parone, certainly you did! :) Your story cracked my and my missus up, though! So recognisable!

Caelum is in no position to wage war with Shinu, but just to make it official; Caelum accepts the NAP.

Another thing game related; I have a question about gem gathering, what is the most efficient way to look for gems?
Does your pretender have special skills normally? What is the order you give her/him in that case?
The reason I ask is seeing the trade offers, while the inventory of Caelum is rather mindbogglingly low on gems.

parone March 2nd, 2012 07:34 AM

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

yeah, gem gathering can be a real bit** if you don't have a strategy.

if you are specializing in certain paths/magics, you might use recruitable mages to sight search for specific kinds of gems. it is more effecient to find the spell that searches(one turn to cast, 2 turns to move/search), but that is negated if your searcher has more than one path and you need both(say he was a fire/earth mage and you needed both-like me). of course the spells find ALL of the sights in that path, so you could uncover one of those whopper lvl 4 sights, which if your searcher were not level 4, you wouldn't get.

some guys use a rainbow pretender(all paths, or most) and just have him sight search from the word go.

im sure there are more strats, but for someone like me(who knows very little) these are the simplest.

like everything else in this game, it requires a lot of planning.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

*deletes currently being written post*

Uh... Before I read parone's post I had a totally different interpretation of what you said :) Ah well, it was a pretty epic post, it makes me a bit sad to lose it, but it's better this way.

Yskonyn: Thanks for having taken me for sub. I was a bit miffled when I first received the save file and wondered what the **** I had thrown myself into, but now I can genuinely say that I'm having a ton of fun. I've performed a literal MIRACLE through basically suicidal plans (and a few fortunate events) that actually all paid off minus one very small setback, and turn 12-15 are probably the highlight in my strategy gaming career. I've actually saved a copy of turn 12 (ie. when I took over) and 15, so that if I ever need an ego boost, I just have to load both saves and look at the massive difference between them. I'm actually even starting to have some tiny hope for the future! Even if those hopes turn out to be false in the future, I have to say I'm enjoying myself, so a big thank you!

Regarding site searching, what I usually do in regular games (ie. not this one) is some low-level searching with some cheap mages so that it doesn't impact either my research or income much. The vast majority of sites are low level, so it's good enough to get some minor gem income going: That income is then used for the site-searching spells. Site-searching spells have the advantage of taking one turn for a search instead of 2 (since you have to move) and they find all sites (and mages with 4 points in a skill are exceedingly rare in the first place), so that's what I usually go with. The big exception is if I have a rainbow pretender, in which case I leave the majority of the site searching to him/her (but not necessarily all). It might not be the most optimal strategy, but that's what I usually go with :)

Immortality sure makes a lot of things safer to do.

Re: Giants and Dwarves [MA; CBM ; Noob friendly] [Full 12/12]

Oh, it definitively does help, but when there's like 4 battles per turn it only helps in one of them... Unless you got a bunch of immortals, that is :)
