Heehee. Most of the OT threads are grey at best. Semi-OT. In amoung the OnTopic threads they are neutral in their effect. There are alot of them here. Computers, html, jokes are a few I remember off the top of my head.

Ok, something wierd is happening,.. I go to the se4 scenario/mod forum and post a message, ask to 'preview/add file' upload an avatar.. click on the link to the 'attachment' grab the link (ctrl+c) and then come here and post the link as an image.. I then went back and deleted the useless post in the mod forum, and all seemed well.

I did this with looser's avatar. and all seems well...

I repeated this procedure for the 'rodainian' avatar (aka Greedo) and it looks ok, but when I go back and delete the useless temporary post in the mod forum, the avatar pic posted here dissapears. What's going on?

Why would it delete the second, and third (second appempt) avatar rodain.gif but keep the original loosernew1.gif?

I switch to my elmer fud voice.. Something werry werry strange iz going on here.

Any ideas?

Yes I know this is shameless nechromancy but I thought that some of the 'newbies' might enjoy browsing this thread.

I haven't checked, but are my avatars still available as a selection from the user profile? I seem to remember the were, then they got nerfed. But I haven't checked to see if they has been restored.

Btw if you want the u-r-l of any of those avatars, simply right-click on the pic and "Show picture" (or View Image) that will send the pic to its own window and you can grab the u-r-l from the links window at the top of your browser. For those using Mozilla just select "Copy image location" when you right-click.

This is odd....I looked for my avatar in your Emporium David, and I could not find it. It either was removed somehow, or it was one of the 2 that did not load. The first was "Raging Deadstar" so I doubt that's it, the other was "742", which may be it. I dunno.

It might have been a 'custom' avatar that I made 'After the upload feature was down' (remember when we couldn't upload anything fo close to 6 months?)

Most were found on the net and resized/framed to fit my avatar design. It sure is fun hunting, you'd be amazed at what neat stuff I find when I do some google 'image searches'

You would have to upload it Somewhere then, and use the link for your avatar on that other forum. However, some file hosters prevent this (it is usually called remote-linking I think). Tripod among others ban it, and will display a nice "File hosted by Tripod" picture if you try to use a file hosted on their server as avatar.

Right-click your avatar here and select properties. Highlight the address with the mouse and press ctrl+C to copy it. Then go to the other forum, find the place to enter the URL of your avatar, and paste.

This could however be a problem for Shrapnel, as you would be using their bandwidth for another forum. How problematic it is would depend, of course, of how many times avatars are displayed on another forum, and on whether Shrapnel has bandwidth-related problems.

On another site where I used to be involved, we had to shut down this sort of service because many of our avatars were used on other forums, creating in the end a major bandwidth usage.
