Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

I commend your excellent attention to detail, atul!

Cunningly, and as I knew all was lost, I attempted to Faerie Trod my remaining forces into Agarthan territory.

Woefully do I discover that the forest province has a dome!

Truly I've been well-overmatched this time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif.

Still, we will see how long my raiders can survive, eh?

Yucky-you are an honorary Lizard. Despite only having 1 province for ages, you have persevered. Many players seem to abandon ship at the first sign of adversity, but you have hung in there valiantly. And I now see that you doubled your number of provinces last turn!

Congrats!

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

Eh, I'd _so_ like to take the credit for attention to detail, but had I foreseen your final raid attempt you'd been greeted with fire and frost domes also. That dome was a leftover from the C'tissian invasion, Gwelledun has seen many oppressors along the times. Glad to see there was some use to that dome, though.

MA Ctis is still buying gems and blood slaves.

PM me if you want to sell gems of any type for gold. I am also willing to buy items. Have junk clogging up your labs?

Status of new patch

Here is the deal:

DO NOT CONNECT TO THIS SERVER WITH THE 3.10 PATCH.

I will post here when the game is updated and you can connect with the new patch.

I will upgrade all the games on my server at once. The timer will be be taken off all the games and I will manually upgrade and host all of my games Wed (tomorrow) at about 10pm. Please do all your turns with the old patch (3.08)

Until the upgrade of the server please continue to use the old 3.08 patch.

Thanks!

Velusion October 10th, 2007 12:13 PM

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

CelestialGoblyn - please use the older version of the client until the server is upgraded tonight.

I'm afraid you made the game crash by connecting with the new version!

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

You should just take all the games down until you upgrade the server. Seems like almost everyone is running the patch now, and no one wants to retrograde.

I'm not going to processes the turn with a mixture of 3.08 and 3.10 turns files submitted.

Oh damn, sorry for that.
I assumed that if my game will be incompatible, the server simply won't let me in...

Velusion - Johan K did reassure me a while ago that hosting a turn which had received a mixture of pre- and post-patch 2h files would work fine. I actually had to ask him a couple of times and quite specifically, because he didn't seem to understand why I'd think there might be a problem.

On the other hand I can well understand that you might want to play it on the safe side.

Hmmm thats good to know for the future. I can't change the schedule now, but for the next patch it would make things easier.

So how long are we from looking at a new turn? This next turn is going to be especially interesting (at least for me) and the waiting is tiring http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Uh, a stupid question maybe, but...

...if the Mac patch is 3.09, does it mean I and other iPeople can't play after you patch to 3.10?

I *think* you should be ok... I *think* they just messed up with the naming standard on the mac version.

But... I'm not sure. We'll find out tonight http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. I'm sure there will be an uproar if that is the case...

I haven't patched yet, but what I've read does not make me feel comfy. Like, Formorians having 3.09 traits on Mac patch.

But, guess I see tomorrow morning. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

MA Ctis is the only nation you are at war with that is an innocent victim of Lanka aggression.

Salamander-there are 3 races to the "south" not just you attacking him. Besides, I am not telling Lanka to attack anyone with his huge armies of demons.

But they are wasted fighting me on the northern border while leaving his capital relatively undefended. No way he beats 4 nations, but I would make a last stand worthy of an epic ballad at my capital.

Not at a border fort. Of course, I am biased in hating to see my lizards killed fighting his demons. heh.

EA Oceania is buying earth attacks to help defend its lands from forreign aggression. Targets would be Thugs or commanders from the nations of LA R'lyeh and/or LA Mictlan. Anyone who'd like to make some pocket money and doesn't mind hurting those two nations can contact me. I'm sure we can find some way to arrange payment.

Xietor October 14th, 2007 02:42 AM

Lanka attacked me

I advised Lanka to withdraw his main army from his northern border forts and defend his capital-but no he had to test the Lizard defense!

http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...83da0cf12g.jpg

His armies were without number. Two Mandahas, numerous national summons, storm demons, capital only sacreds, numerous mages loaded down with items.

Against that army MA Ctis had its Marshmasters, Lizards, Lizard Priests, and a few undead.

When the darkness had cleared, the carnage was tabulated:

http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...ff6ce0f62g.jpg
leading to the old adage, "I can't astop ya from a comin-but I can astop ya from aleaving!

Big files...

Jeez... my 2h file is now over 1 meg in size!

I guess those 3 hours I'm investing per turn are finally paying off where it really counts... file size!

Re: Big files...

3 hours ? wow I though my turns took long time. Any specific reason why the timer was restarted ?

Velusion October 15th, 2007 05:03 AM

Re: Big files...

It was set to something like 52 hours in an attempt to fix it the last time. Rather than trying to remember to reset it the moment it hosts this time I just reset the timer to the correct time.

Evilhomer October 15th, 2007 05:10 AM

Re: Big files...

Also I noticed that LA ulm and Manchaka has missed atleast 2 turns in a row. Unless someone heard from them it's probably time to do something. LA ulm is dead and can probably be set to AI, Manchaka is in a decent position so maybe a sub can be found.

Xietor October 15th, 2007 06:52 AM

Re: Big files...

I shed Lizard tears for LA Ulm. While they were not a powerful race, they were good friends with the Lizards. But when MA Pangaea attacked them, my armies could not render aid to LA Ulm.

One, MA Pangaea also aided me by joining my war against LA Atlantis-better late then never. Secondly my provinces and MA pangaea's are so intertwined, there is no way either of us could defend them from the other.

Additionally there were huge unfought lanka armies on my borders sitting in forts.

These 3 factors added up to the Lizards taking a bystander role in the Pangaea/Ulm war. Though we did kick MA Oceania out of the water so he could not launch an attack on Ulm from the other side. In the end, Ulm had a 1 v 1 war with MA Pangaea-and lost.

Sadly, if Ulm is set to AI they will attack their dear friends the Lizards(:

Well ulm was occupying the forests on our border, so we decided to include ulm into our realm, what we now have done. My biggest loss was when my centaurs after defeating ulms army wherent able to storm the castle gate (Skellispam and A Soul Contract where to much for my fatigue 80 cataphracts) so after 50 turns, my army routed and my vine ogres and my manikins dissolved. Otherwise, ulm never offered any real resistance.

Xietor October 15th, 2007 08:05 AM

Re: Big files...

Part of LA Ulm's problem was 3 mis. It seemed he lost provinces to bad events the entire game. I know many take mis. but i have yet to take even 1 mis in a mp game. And In alpaca i actually took 3 luck-though my interests would have been better served with 3 growth. But it all worked out.

LA Ulm was also played by a new player, but was shielded by me(he was between me and the northern zone border) for much of the game. So he was able to survive long into the game without being at war with anyone. His only other border was pangaea to the east.

Strategically it would have been smart for me to annex Ulm,
but we were friends. And I never kill friends while enemies still draw breath(glares lanka).

The rumours of Machaka's demise have been greatly exaggerated. I only missed one turn due to computer/internet issues. The spider kings will return.

Has anyone noticed that my favorite race(MA Pangaea) is alive in all 3 forms? And they are all doing well.

Proves my point that high hps/high mr are powerful counters in a magical world. Too bad MA Ulm has low hp/low mr. Is it any wonder they are the worst race?

Though we met under unfavorable circumstances... GG Lizards!

Banefire was evil spell, but I'd rate your castings of Plague in our last fight even more evil -- many Agarthan commanders still bear marks of that, let alone all the troops it killed.

Xietor, it seems it's up to us middle-erans to hold the candle of once-proud coldblooded races...

Re: Big files...

Eeerm... Why did the game host already?

Yesterday evening I checked how long the game had left before hosting, as I seemed to remember I would have to rush my turn to be in time. (I wasn't able to log in for two days due to computer problems) To my great relief it appeared I had plenty of time, till this afternoon, to finish, (was the timer extended at some point? ) so I just played what I could, intending to finish this morning. But now due to Atul's comment I gathered the game had hosted anyway, and upon checking this indeed appears to be the case.

I know I'm but a poor human, and humans make mistakes, but I would be seriously surprised at miscounting hosting time by no less than 4 hours...

Evilhomer October 21st, 2007 05:45 AM

Re: Big files...

Actually the hosting was delayed by 12 hours from the original 72 hours (so last turn was a 84 hour qh). Now it does seem to be on 24 hour qh for some reason.

Amhazair October 21st, 2007 06:24 AM

Re: Big files...

Yes, I'm not surprised there was an extension. (as I said, I was surprised to have more time to finish my turn than I was counting on. ) I would swear however, that the game then hosted sooner than the timer said it would.

atul October 21st, 2007 06:33 AM

Re: Big files...

Did you upload a partial turn? I remember looking at the roster and thinking it might quickhost. If you had half your turn in, it might've done that... :/
