131,565 + 5,200 = 136,765 = Level 17.

Well, Swashbuckler gets kinda weak after level 6/7...Dervish looks interesting, but doesn't meet the requirements...Exempler has some neat skill bonuses but d6 HP, 2/3 attack bonus, already meets the requirements...

Or, I could just cross-class to Fighter. -20% XP wouldn't hurt that much for 4 levels...Are we going epic?

Jack Simth March 13th, 2006 09:34 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Epic? That depends on how long it takes for the permits to go through on my church's current building project vs. how long it takes to get into Epic; once construction starts, I plan to be spending many of my Saturdays working at church. We might be able to reschedule at that time, we might not.

There's a thought - Any chance I could take a feat to change his favored class to fighter?

Jack Simth March 15th, 2006 01:51 AM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Doesn't sound unreasonable; removing an XP penalty, sort of like Two-Weapon Fighting reduces the attack penalty for fighting with two weapons. Even make it a Fighter Bonus Feat.....

Fighting Focus
This feat ovverrides your racial favored class, changing to to Fighter, instead of whatever it was. This feat may be taken as a Fighter bonus feat.

Let's see... Rilyrr's 16th, Kaylin's 16th, everyone else 17th?

One vote cast, for Jason, 1000 bonus XP

Kibin: 2550
Eldon: 2550
Elorin: 2550
Kaylin (1/2 xp for no player): 1600

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

A couple of GM goofs....

Holy damage does lethal damage, because it's an energy attack and thus bypasses damage resistance, and since it's a good effect, it bypasses the regeneration and does lethal damage.

The posion that kiled the frontier trader should have taken a minute to be lethal. The immediate effects of it was 1d6 constitution damage, the secondary damage which goes into effect a minute later is death.

EDIT: We're also all immune to posion, so it was kind of useless to make a fortitude save except for the disease. And the disease is pointless, as eating Hero's Feast cures all diseases. And I keep forgetting to add the +1 bonus to attack rolls and will saves...

EDIT EDIT: And my breath weapon penetrates all damage resistance, because it's a supernatural effect. Hmmm...

EDIT EDIT EDIT: Out of curiosity, do you have any type of instant messaging client that you use, such as AIM or MSN messenger?

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

He was killed by a poison's secondary effect? Yeah, he'd definitely still be alive, then. Secondary effects from poison have a 1 minute delay, 10 rounds, more than enough time for us to have finished the summoned monster, noticed the trader's poisoned state (with prompting from him, probably), and cured it. If he's a druid, he could probably have neutralized it himself in that time, anyway.

Holy does not bypass the Pit Fiend's regen because the extra damage is added as weapon damage, which requires that it also be silver to bypass the regen. Against the Ice Devil, silver is not needed so the good alignment effect of Holy is sufficient.

NullAshton March 18th, 2006 10:01 PM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Notice the holy description. Moderate evocation [good], which means it's a GOOD EFFECT. Thus, it should bypass regeneration. It also uses Holy Smite, which is a good effect...

EDIT: Which probally doesn't bypass the damage reduction. Just the regeneration. Hmmmm.

Not quite;
Quote:

SRD, Magic Items, Weapons and ArmorHoly: A holy weapon is imbued with holy power. This power makes the weapon good-aligned and thus bypasses the corresponding damage reduction. It deals an extra 2d6 points of damage against all of evil alignment. It bestows one negative level on any evil creature attempting to wield it. The negative level remains as long as the weapon is in hand and disappears when the weapon is no longer wielded. This negative level never results in actual level loss, but it cannot be overcome in any way (including restoration spells) while the weapon is wielded. Bows, crossbows, and slings so crafted bestow the holy power upon their ammunition.

Moderate evocation [good]; CL 7th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, holy smite, creator must be good; Price +2 bonus.

No mention of energy damage.

No; he got poisoned twice, and ran out of Con (bad rolls - a 6 and a 5, assigned him a mere 10); it's damage, so stacks.

The Fort saves were for the numbing cold slow on blue, not red's poison and disease.

EDIT: Which probally doesn't bypass the damage reduction. Just the regeneration. Hmmmm.

That's what it shows up as under Detect Magic, not what it does.

"Regeneration (Ex): A pit fiend takes normal damage from good-aligned silvered weapons, and from spells or effects with the good descriptor."

Compare to an Ice Devil's: "Regeneration (Ex): An ice devil takes normal damage from good-aligned weapons and from spells or effects with the good descriptor."

And a Chain Devil's: "Regeneration (Ex): Chain devils take normal damage from silvered weapons, good-aligned weapons, and spells or effects with the good descriptor."

Holy makes the weapon good-aligned, and adds damage vs. Evil critters. Unless it's both good-aligned and silver, however, it doesn't get through the Pit Fiend's, unless it's a spell or similar effect; a Holy Smite spell would get past, but the weapon effect Holy merely aligns the weapon and increases base damage. Unless it's also Silver, it's not killing the Pit Fiend.

Oh, something I've been wondering... Do my natural weapons count as magic for penetrating damage resistance, or is that just young adult dragons and older with damage resistance?

Jack Simth March 19th, 2006 01:03 AM

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

"Damage Reduction: Young adult and older dragons have damage reduction. Their natural weapons are treated as magic weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction."

"Their" usually referrs to the last refferenced subject, which, in that case, was "Young adult and older dragons", so, as a fresh-hatched Wyrmling, you don't, for another 51 years.

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

If you ever wanted to see just how powerful a character you could make with epic levels and tons of splatbooks allowed, here's your chance. Someone cooked up a supposedly CR 66 monster by the rules for the templates and abilities he used to make it, and wanted to playtest to see if that rating was accurate. The ECL 66 party got massacred, so he's trying again with an ECL 74 party (4 members each time). He has stated that he will playtest it at least three times, so even though we already have enough players this time, you can wait for the third to come around.

I'll be playing a Colossal pixie, wielding four greatswords, each of which is bigger than he is http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif. I'm currently looking at having 28 attacks in a full attack, which I can do on any charge. Oh, and such tricks as getting regeneration (which converts all damage to nonlethal) and immunity to nonlethal damage, resulting in immunity to all damage, are allowed. In fact, such munchkinization as building someone who can cast spontaneously from the entire cleric spell list is not only allowed but encouraged http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif. So, have fun pulling out all the broken combos you can think of (excepting pun-pun builds and similar infinite insanity) - the last party played by the same rules and got thoroughly trounced http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif.

Re: OT: Narf has gone looney and wants to GM.

Slight problem with that: how do you prevent a bluff or diplomacy check in the mid 200's from making them turn on you? Even 74,000,000 gp has limits to what it can buy for you, and the vast majority of the followers would be level 1.
