Re: Big files...
I am actually pretty sure you are wrong on the 4 hour thing. I checked it last night and it seems to have hosted when it should (well according to the new time anyhow). That said it is a shame you missed doing the details of your turn - I am enjoying this epic struggle and don't want anything for free. Still your super army is left standing and continues to give me an headache.
|
Re: Big files...
I can't really think of any other rational explanation either, but still... I can't believe I miscounted so badly either.
The mind boggles at the mysteries of the universe. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: Big files...
I think the server treats "save game and quit" as a completed turn for quickhosting. It did it once to me early on. My dinky turns are pretty simple, though, so it hasn't been a big deal to do them all at once.
Splash screen says 17h to next host right now. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
The game has been crashing rather frequently lately. So I either have to restart (starting the 72 hour clock over again). Or I have to adjust the timer to a little past when the due date is (and then remember to change it back). All players should have had at least 72 hours to do thier turns.
Work has been hellish these last to days, so sorry for being out of touch. I'm going to sleep now... zzzz |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
What should happen is this due to technical issues:
Force host should be turn off. The game should be hosted at the 72 hour interval. That way players can do their turns early and can change them later. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Quick Post: Is this game actually working, or is 62 going to melt the hosting machine, lol? I'm curious about the progress of this epic accomplishment.
=$= |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
We are down to about 20 players at this point and we are at turn 80. About 5-10 with a fair chance of winning I guess. Game has gone above most peoples expectations and no real hosting issues so far. The only issue I suppose is the fact that some people have to quit playing at some points due to real life issues and the fact that this game has gone on for a long time.
|
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Hosting times to process the turn have been getting longer... about 15-20 minutes on average I would say - sometimes longer depending on what the host computer is doing at the same time.
For the latest info: http://67.66.187.69/dominions3/perpetuality_scores.html |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
It seems like a week has passed since the last host.
It takes me about 15 minutes to do a turn. But when you have a small empire and single digit gem producing items, managing to do a turn quickly is no great feat. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Wow, lots of stale turns http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif.

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Lanka is flipping to AI this turn FYI...
|
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Why not let me take them over? /Evil grin.
After all who deserves the spoils of war from Lanka more than the feisty Lizards? |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Doh! The normal people I use to put nations in games I am playing in to AI are not around... so anyone not in the game want to do us a favor and flip Lanka to AI? I'll provide the password...
|
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Sure, as I went AI this turn.

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
I'll send you the PW Dr P!

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
So one of the departing players predicted EA Oceania was going to win the game. That looks unlikely now.
Contenders: 1. LA Ermor-He has 2 globals up. Well of Misery and Soul Gate. He has several vassal nations tied to his apron stings. Why the clammers have not dispelled his globals is mind boggling to the Lizards. Especially clammers that are at war with him. heh. 2. LA Ryleh-Does not have nearly as many provinces, but has great great potential. 3. MA Agartha-owns the most provinces, and has the golem cult working for him. Will be a tough out. 4. LA Mictlan-Despite the personal crusade of the Lizards to eradicate Blood Nations, some still thrive. But the Lizards have removed the biggest threat of the Blood Nations from the equation_Lanka. And had a hand in the downfall of EA Mictlan as well. There is only so much the lizards can do. 5. The 3 Pangaeas-It is not coincidence that Pangaea thrives in all 3 versions. High hps, High MR, stealth, blood, earth attacks, forge, goh etc. Though it is doubtful one will emerge the victor. Notes: Pythium-their very slow out the gate start has crippled what could have been a front runner for the title. MA Ermor-Could be a viable threat to the crown. Not enough information on them to make an intelligent decision. There are still a few nations manned by new players that still live because bigger fish have been fighting each other. I think the Game storms into the endgame after EA Oceania falls. It has been a relatively quiet game for the 1st 80 turns. Look for that to change during the next 40 when the top guns unleash hell upon the world and drive the pretenders into oblivion. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
While flattering to be placed on the top 5 list I think the chances of me pulling off a win at this point rate considerably below god-awful. I've been staving off death competently enough for awhile now, but the number of tartarians tromping around what used to be my heartlands means I'm only going to be around as long as I'm useful to my wise and handsome neighbors. At this point the best I can hope for is to be sandwiched between LA Ermor and LA R'yleh's dominions while they are otherwise occupied. Joy.
My bet at this point is LA R'yleh takes the win, though after watching EA Oceania's meltdown I certainly wouldn't consider anybody a shoe in if enough people team up on them. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
I would bet also on LA Rlyeh, ermor looks strong, but he will end up in the middle between LA Rlyeh, MA Agartha and then his vassals will turn against him very fast. But if Ermor wont be ganged soon, his tartarians will make quite an impact, also his soulgate freespawns are better than the ones of LA Rlyeh or my maenads.
And there is also a nation of lizards sitting in the northeast, that Xietor miraculously missed in his toplist of nations, as the endgame is very tartarian dependent MA Ctis should not have a too hard time get loads of them into battle. btw. why has lategame always to be about who will get the most tartarians? |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
In the Epic Heroes game I did an experiment and attacked Lolomo's best equipped tartarian gate with an SC of my own. The Tartarian died in 3 rounds taking 99 points of damage in the 1st round of combat-despite having mistform up.
Tartarians are awesome, but I will not win any games with tartarians. There are good counters to tartarians. And the few I have all have afflictions out the wazoo since i was never able to get GOH up. No, MA Ctis is just biding his time until one of his more powerful nations looks around and notices he still exists. Then I am afraid it will be a quick exit for the underpowered Lizards(: Oh! And the Lizards are not in the NE corner. Apparently geography is not a strong point of the Centaurs. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Well, there are lizards there, but not the same ones you keep as pets.
|
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Several misunderstandings need to be adressed.
First of all, MA Agartha resents the implication of being Ermor's vassal as Baalz suggested. We hardly have had any contact with them, it was even "common knowledge" that Ermor, Atlantis and Man were in bed together when we decided to take the fate of our continent to our own hands and pre-emptively defended our lands from Man. Secondly, there are no lizards in NE corner. There might be some ruins of an ancient civilization but they're quickly being rebuilt into the image of certain other cold-blooded masters. Again, the implication that the proud cave-dwellers of Agartha are "lizards" is horrendous insult. Thirdly, "golem cult"? BWAHAHAHaaahhhh ... *wheeze* While it may be true that the power of our every enchantment is doubled, MA Agartha's true strength lies elsewhere than in the moving statues. Anyway, should someone send us some coordinates to the troops of the offending parties, we're eager to pay insults with rituals. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
I can send you some coordinates-but they are likely to land your army in a pack of demon knights and mandahas-let me know if you are interested in testing your generals' skills against that which the Lizards have cut their teeth.

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
I said what now? I think you misread *and* misattributed what Hadrian said, but if you really want to send some army killer rituals at my capital I'll give you the targeting information myself. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Well, unlike some others here, MA Agartha's One True God does not claim infallibility. Yet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Looking at the merry gutterfight you seem to be having currently, it seems that Agarthan interests are best served by contemplation in our caves. Wake us up after you've reduced this world to cinders, we'll arise from beneath the earth to retake earth after the armageddon. "We'll meet agaaaaain, don't know where, don't know wheeeen..." |

LA Ermor 127
MA Agartha 125 It is so close it is semantics. Heh. Both own 2-3 times as many provinces as the average player. Both races should be pretty pumped at their position in the Big Game after 80 turns. |

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Lanka just kicked me in the balls. Thanks Dr. P.! heh.
You can't resist those final stabs in the eye, and I did not even do anything to you in THIS game. Lanka is done-make no mistake. But they still have 50 commanders that are high level, and great hosts of strong demons, unique artifacts, items, and gems. So they can still cause a good bit of grief even in defeat. I knew I should have had Son-of-Xietor take them over. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Bah I have been encountering huge armies in the southern sea. I guess he values his homeland and home province a bit http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/Injured.gif
Also there is a scary s10 (with boosters) pretender running around here throwing master enslave. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
While I have never done it, it would be fun to see a true s10 mage at the back of a decent army fighting an astral mage race and just spamming magic duel every turn.
Of course, 1 bad roll of the dice and your pretender is dead. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Not actually, the die roll for magic duel is not open ended, so if you're more than 6 levels higher than your opponent you're guaranteed to win. So, a s10 mage could comfortably wade in among anything short of s5, and there's not exactly a lot of s5+ guys (boosters don't count for magic duel)...you're basically just worried about another astral pretender. Its not even like you need to worry about somebody empowering up mages to s5 to trip you...that's *expensive* and you still have a 35 out of 36 chance of winning vs s5.
'course, its not like you've got anything better for you s10 guy to do than kill mid level mages one at a time.... |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
I think there is always a chance to fail in any combat. I am pretty sure I have watched an s9 and s3 both die in a magic duel.

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
The way magic duel is supposed to work a s9 (base not boosters is what counts) will win 100% of the time against s3.
edit: In this case the pretender is s6 in base, such a pretender should not feel safe around starspawns http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

|
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Ah, well. I knew it could happen. What pisses me of isn't the fact that my pretender died, but that he died for no reason at all, because in my horrible stupidity I managed to forget to give him the gems to cast his master enslave. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif
With master enslave most of your starstpawn would have been surrounded by their own chaff and thus unable to flee the field, and the battle would have been a clearcut victory instead of the semi-draw it was now. And then Oroboros could proudly tell his colleague-failed-gods that he died in valiant defence of his people... It doesn't feel quite so good to brag about the astral shield he managed to cast before the end... |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Master enslave you say? Heh, I am so far behind the curve in this game it is not funny(:

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Velusion go ahead and set LA Ulm to AI. That player has missed the last 4+ turns, and will most likely miss another (hosting in 3 hours). Also LA ulm is down to 0 provinces so no point in looking for a substitute.
A heads up for EA oceania, hosting in 3 hours, hurry up and script some evil countermoves http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
Yeah, I know I'm running out of time, I'll try to think of something good. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
I've been struggling to find the time and energy needed to put out quality play since before this war started actually,(due to different circumstances that don't really matter)for which I apologise. But I think that apart from those two unfortunate - and painfull - stales, and a total neglect of of diplomacy, I'm not absolutely worthless in my efforts to... inconvenience my enemies. I'll try to get a full, complete, and fiendishly clever turn up in time. Or, failing that, just a solid one. |
Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)
And so passes my dear friend LA Ulm. A loyal race to the lizards. We shall govern your populace fairly and grant them citizen status in the Lizard Empire.
Regrettably your capital and most of your populace are ruled by the less enlightened woods' people. |
