If you're a hero any vehicle you drive automaticly gains 500 horsepower and can drive away from insane stunts.
Any computer can be hacked in less than a minute. All computers are networked. Villians can use underlings as ablative armor without losing the others' loyalty. Detectives are either super-intelligent or totally incompetent. The laws of physics are merely suggestions. The bad guys always use the same type of ammo you do. If you wear a bulletproof vest you'll always be shot in the chest but not have to worry about kinetic energy. You can carry on a conversation in the middle of a firefight without shouting. You can jump or fall from great heights without injury as long as you roll when you hit. |

Re: 320.2! 301.5, 311.3, 65.4
It's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing you now just to see if you're better New York is cold, but I like where I'm living There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening. I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record. Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear Did you ever go clear? Ah, the Last time we saw you you looked so much older Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder You'd been to the station to meet every train And you came home without Lili Marlene And you treated my woman to a flake of your life And when she came back she was nobody's wife. Well I see you there with the rose in your teeth One more thin gypsy thief Well I see Jane's awake -- She sends her regards. And what can I tell you my brother, my killer What can I possibly say? I guess that I miss you, I guess I forgive you I'm glad you stood in my way. If you ever come by here, for Jane or for me Your enemy is sleeping, and his woman is free. Yes, and thanks, for the trouble you took from her eyes I thought it was there for good so I never tried. And Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear -- Sincerely, L. Cohen |

Oh it ain't gonna rain no more no more
It ain gonnaa rain no more How in the heck can I wash my neck, if it ain't gonna rain no more? Man lay by the sewer And by the sewer he died And when they wrote the town report They called it suir-cide. Oh it ain't gonna rain no more no more It ain gonnaa rain no more How in the heck can I wash my neck, if it ain't gonna rain no more? Oh Mary had a little lamp That little lamp was stout But when company came callin' over That little lamp went out Oh it ain't gonna rain no more no more It ain gonnaa rain no more How in the heck can I wash my neck, if it ain't gonna rain no more? Re: 320.2! 301.5, 311.3, 65.4
Democritus must have been an incredibly smart guy, to have that sort of insight in 400 BC!
|
Re: 320.2! 301.5, 311.3, 65.4
Democritus, as far as i know, was the first guy to propose the idea that everything is divisable down to an 'atom', or a unit of matter that can't be divided further. while that theory hasn't been proven, and the things we call atoms aren't, it was better than the other theory, which is that everything is made up of fire, air, earth and water.

TALUR: Fire, rock, sky, and water are the basic elements of the universe. They can be found in every object, every person, every animal -- everything.
TALUR: The rock in this wood can be felt by its weight and by its hardness. If we expose the wood to flame... TALUR: We can encourage the fire in the wood to show itself. We also see smoke, which is a part of the sky. But, the water in wood is very difficult to see. Sometimes the basic elements can be hidden deep within objects, but all four elements are always there. TALUR: Yes, Jayden? DATA: I do not believe that is correct. TALUR: Oh? DATA: I believe you are reasoning by analogy -- classifying objects and phenomena according to superficial observation rather than by empirical evidence. For example, wood does not contain fire simply because it is combustible. Nor does it contain rock simply because it is heavy. Wood, like any complex organic form, is composed of thousands of different chemical compounds, none of which is fire. |

So this thread still lurks along, eh? It's died time and time again but keeps getting resurrected. Perhaps someday it will return to its former glory and be the largest thread on the forums.

here's a thought: why does it take no organics to make an Organics Farm Facility?
|
Re: 320.2! 301.5, 311.3, 65.4
The Organics must come from the planet itself.

Re: 320.2! 301.5, 311.3, 65.4
How can those Solar Generators in crystalline tech generate minerals, organics, and radioactives from sunlight? Does it convert energy into matter in accordance with E=mc^2? It must collect a LOT of sunlight to generate any significant amount of matter...

Yeah, and they're pretty useless anyway... how about making them into cheap resupply depots?

Why doesn't it take any organics to produce medical bays or boarding parties?
No radioactives to make a quantum reactor? |
Re: 320.2! 301.5, 311.3, 65.4
Boarding parties at least should have some organics. People are organic. They are people (sort of).

Kids these days must be wimps. The school Boards certainly seem to be. In my grade school, we saw brains, hearts, eyeballs, slaughtering live salmon, dissecting rats...

In my elementary school, in grade 6, we incubated a bunch of eggs and opened them up at various stages, to study the development of the embryo. After that, I did not eat eggs for about a year.
In Grade 7, we dissected a pig foetus. We got into Groups of 3-4 students and we each got a pig, but it was more like random mutilation rather than dissecting that we did. (Years later, in high school biology class, we dissected a pig foetus again, but this time it was very methodical, we looked for various organs and features, and we documented each step and drew diagrams. We also dissected starfish, worms, and sheep brains.) Edit: typos [ January 11, 2004, 01:17: Message edited by: Kamog ] |

I think it is the percent signs. There are many characters that UBB can not handle in URLs. Just use the vastly superior html equivalent. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I didn't say my post could be edited for "better page formatting." The post prior to it messes up page formatting as well. Why was it not edited? There have been many Posts on this forum that have messed up page formatting that the Moderators never edited. Why is mine a special case? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif
