Re: Patch 2.14

I've come across a problem with the 2.14 client being used with games hosted by 2.12 or 2.13 servers. It can cause items to be lost, and it can also be used as an exploit, so much as I prefer staying with the same Version throughout a game (unless major gameplay "quirks" get fixed), I'd recommend migrating games to 2.14 soon.

Ygorl: what do you get on OS X?

I get this from the patch tool:

"Patch Not Applied.
You have not selected the right file"

I currently have 2.12, and apparently I'm never going to upgrade. :-(

Re: Patch 2.14

The mac patch can only be applied to Version 2.13 or the original on CD Version. So reinstall from CD, apply patch and it should work.

Johan K:

Thank you very much for the helpful response.

Unfortunately I can't find my CD, as all of our stuff is in cardboard boxes in my mother-in-law's garage until Nov 1. Even after Nov 1 when we move into our new house, I might never find the CD.

Oh! I know -- I can ask one of my brothers to give me their CD. In fact, I'll ask them to rip it and send a copy to me so they don't have to pay international shipping fees.

Thanks!

Save the key-file before you reinstall - just in case you packed away your manual as well...

Re: Patch 2.14

Heh -- thanks for the tip!

Actually I didn't pack away the manual, because I was using it. However, it is currently lost somewhere in the house. :-)

I'm currently trying to download patch 2.13 so I can upgrade my 2.12 to that and then upgrade again to 2.14.

By the way, how do people play with each other? PBEM? On-line servers?

So far I've only played on a LAN with my brothers and friends.

P.S. I love my Marignon paladins with blessing bonusses! I'll go search the threads for other people's thoughts on that topic...

Re: Patch 2.14

The 2.13 patch should be available for download here (Mac 2.13 patch; I hope I didn't link to the wrong OS).

There are a few servers for TCP/IP games (such as Mosehansen ), but other games are done via PBEM, especially if you cannot find a spot on one of the public TCP/IP servers.

Using a server is very useful if you want quick games and/or cannot find a reliable host for a PBEM game. Otherwise, I must admit I tend to prefer a PBEM game; but then, I prefer to keep it simple when possible (that, and I can no longer do TCP/IP).

Re: Patch 2.14

Thanks! Applying 2.13 followed by applying 2.14 worked!

:-)

Now I want to get into a game. I don't know how to do PBEM, but I guess I can figure it out.

Re: Patch 2.14

To play a PBEM game:
* Find an open PBEM game (duh!)
* Make a Pretender for your nation, and send the .2h file in the newlords directory for this nation. If you are playing Man, you should send the man.2h file contained in the Newlords directory to your host.
* The host will send the turn files to the players. Put the turn file (man.trn in this case) in a game directory (for example, PBEM), launch the game and play your turn for this game (which would be called PBEM here).
* Send the .2h file contained in the game directory to your host. So in this case, you would send the man.2h file in the PBEM directory.
* Repeat the process as next turn is sen.

For a TCP/IP game:
* Make your Pretender, then connect to the game. The IP and the port will be given to you by the host.
* Select the nation you want to play; it will upload your Pretender.
* Once the game has started, connect to the game and select your nation. Then play your turn as usual, and it will be uploaded once you end your turn.
* You may also need to register at a site when playing a TCP/IP game; it is true of Mosehansen at least.
